Minnie at Character BreakfastI was up early to work on the trip report and enjoyed sitting on the verandah while typing up day 1!  Its beautiful out here (typing here again!) and a perfect place to kick back and take in the ocean view.   Today we have our Character Breakfast at Parrot Cay at 8:15.  Seems early, but works out well for us since we have a 9:15 Spa appointment and have to drop the girls off at the Oceanears Club at 9:00am.  Love the split bathrooms, they make it much easier with the four of us.  There is a tub and sink in one half, and a second sink and toilet in the other.  With the makeup area by the couch you have lots of  'get ready' areas for a family of 4!  We were out of the cabin ready to go by 8am!

Lights in Parrot Cay RestaurantParrot Cay is right above Animators Palette on Deck 4 - aft.  Very colorful restaurant and we were seated at our table immediately.  Our waiter Milan was there waiting and I mentioned our 'rush' to make the Spa by 9:15am.  He was great and immediately got our breakfast rolling!  Drinks, pastries and menus were there in a flash.  He took our orders just as the characters started to move through the restaurant.  We saw Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale.  All the characters travel with a ship photographer except Chip and Dale, but you can still take a picture of them yourself as well.  Girls with DaleThey don't sign autographs, and they move through the restaurant basically at a run!  There are a LOT of people to see in a VERY short time, so I can understand why they have to do this.  On a day when you are in a hurry, you can even APPRECIATE their haste!  ;-)   We enjoyed a great breakfast while waiting for each character to stop by.    Mickey was the last to arrive and made it about 2 minutes before we would HAVE to leave!  Whew!  :-)

Even a bit of napkin waving! We zipped the girls up to the Club, and they check them in very quickly.  Off they went with a word (we didn't know how they would take be left alone, but had been talking about it so we hoped they would do OK).  We hurried to arrive at the Vista Spa on time.  Everything worked out just right and we checked in at the Spa front desk.   After filling out a consultation sheet we were handed a basket for our clothes and personal items and told we could disrobe (to our own level of comfort) in the changing rooms.  They have separate facilities for both men and women and the men's contained a locker area, showers, dry sauna and some lounges to relax on.  Our massage therapists picked each of us up there and took us back to our couples massage room.  The room is very nice, but the two tables are VERY close together so you don't have much extra space!  That's OK, since you are on the table!   The massage was wonderful, and you have a choice - They do a full back of body massage that includes legs and back and then you flip over for a hydrating facial (Kristen did this one) or more massage of the fronts of the legs and the arms (I chose this one).  We both loved our massages and they were very relaxing.

Snow White on Formal NightWell, now it was time to enjoy the adults pool.  Since it was still pretty early, we had no trouble getting a great spot to sit, and the pool was basically ours.  Disney's pools have fresh water (which is nice change from the salt water Royal Caribbean used in their pools)  It is also pretty cool - Kristen was even cold!  I thought it felt wonderfully refreshing!   The pool deck being outside also gets a good steady breeze on these days at sea.  We enjoyed lunch at Topsiders Buffet (Italian Buffet day) and then went down to Shutters to check out the pictures.  They already had the character breakfast shots on display, and we thought they came out pretty ok, but passed on getting any yet.  Taking pictures around the shipAnimators Palette is right behind Shutters and as we looked back we noticed them lining up the kids from the clubs so decided to zip back and grab the girls now.  We just made it before 'transition time'.  Since they have the kids are various activities around the ship you need to know when and where they are scheduled to be someplace to find (or drop off) the kids.  So, keep that kids navigator handy!  :-)

The girls were excited to see us (Whew! thought we might have lostthem for the whole cruise!) but said they had a good time.  Maddy had a better time than Brinn did.  Maddy is a bit more outgoing, so she made a couple new friends.  Brinn is much more shy and had a problem with a couple boys being not so nice (and from what she says, one even spit on her)   Kristen, being a teacher, knows how boys can get so we told her not to worry about it and if it happened again to immediately tell the councilor.  Its so hard to know exactly what happens when you aren't there, but we want the girls to enjoy the clubs if possible!

Family Formal with Captain MickeyOff to do a bit of shopping in Mickey's Mates and Treasure Ketch.  These are the two stores on board (besides the alcohol store near the clubs)  LOTS of kid friendly items, ship items, and other things you many want or need.  The girls were a bit tired after our late nights and early morning, and we wanted to enjoy formal night with a nice dinner and lots of picture taking, so it became a designated nap time!   They were not thrilled, but actually fell asleep very quickly.  Kristen laid down as well, and I went off to explore a bit and ended up trying out Bingo.  Its fun and they keep everyone involved yelling out 'Yeah Baby' when you have a number or D'oh!  when you don't.  You play five games and it's not cheap!  $25 will get you a pack of games with three boards on each page.  (so you have three games on that card) or $35 for a 'jumbo' pack with 6 games per sheet.  The 3 or six games have to stay on the one sheet, so you can't share them amongst the family.  They have perforated tabs that you push through and then fold back as you mark each number called.  Its important to keep up with your cards, because you HAVE to call out bingo when your last number is called.  If the caller calls out the next number, then you HAD bingo, but can't win the game!  So, the LAST number called HAS to be on your card.  It was fun, but no winnings here!

Another shot of the girlsBack to the stateroom to get all formal for dinner.  The girls were well underway and after a few hecktic moments trying to locate various items around the cabin we were off.  We didn't get there in time for any pictures before dinner (would have been smarter!),  but a napkin around the girls necks kept dinner off their dresses!  Another wonderful meal and we again enjoyed Parrot Cay.  After dinner we went around to the various photo setups until the 8:30pm show.   We found Snow White, but Kristen was after Mickey and Minnie in their formal attire.  After talking with a CM, she found out that Mickey and Minnie would be near the Walt Disney Theatre right after the show.  Critter number 2Tonight was the Golden Mickey's show.  Very cute and a lot of fun  to watch!  We sat near the back so we could exit quickly and get in the Mickey/Minnie line.  It worked out very well.  We were second in the line that quickly formed, and spread way down the hall past the stores.   Mickey and Minnie showed up in a few minutes and the CMs informed us that there could be only one picture per family.  (very popular, had to move fast!)  So we opted for a Family shot.

Kristen was happy, and now we moved through the other formal settings (ship, moon, etc.) and had some of each taken.   After pictures were done, we found it was getting pretty late for the girls (and I had been nodding in the show (even though I really liked it!).  Time for bed!
