Port and ShipToday we sail!  Everyone was tired from our first day, so we slept in (for us) just a bit and then packed up our belongings and checked out of the Radisson.  You could checkout right on the TV set using the remote control and it was quick and painless.  We headed to Dunkin Donuts for a light breakfast of bagels since today would start our week of eating!  :-)  Want to be hungry for that lunch buffet!   After breakfast it was time to return the rental car (we headed there about 9:30am).  Budget is VERY close to the Radisson, and A1A has many gas stations where you can refill your tank before taking your vehicle back.   Tent for luggage pickup/dropoff across from the portThere are plenty of shuttles dropping off passengers from both the Disney Magic and Carnival Glory Cruise Ships so catching a shuttle TO he port is NO problem!  :-)  Our driver was very nice, and told us that he couldn't take us INTO the Disney Terminal, but that was OK.  They drop you off across the street at a tent set up in a parking lot where you leave your checked luggage and a CM checks the bags quickly for tags and then sends you on into the port.   Before reaching the port itself you are stopped and adults have to show photo ID and your name is checked on a list.

Luggage bins We were one of the first in the Port itself, and quickly moved through the bag check and up into the port area.  The lines to check in were slated to open at about 11am.  We were about 4 families back in line, and Kristen held the spot there while I zipped around for some pictures!  :-)  The ship model is amazing and has one side of the ship open so you can see various ship features like he rooms, theatres, etc.  Very cool to check out!   The girls planed themselves in front of one of several TV's showing Disney cartoons, and where we could see them from the check in line.   They opened he checkin stations a bit before the slated 11am (closer to 10:40 or so) and we quickly registered and received our Keys to the Kingdom (KTTK) room/charge cards.   Keep that photo ID handy, you'll need it here again.   We had all our paper work filled out already, and it only took about 5 minutes or so and we were done.  Kristen went to look around and wait with the girls while I was off to hold a place in the growing line of people waiting to board the Magic.  Since it was before even 11am, and the ship was to board at 12:30 - I had a wait coming, so I grabbed a book and planted myself on the floor to wait it out.  The time went quickly, and we ended up boarding before the slated 12:30 by 20 minutes or so.   Goofy, Chip and Dale came out in their 'sailor' gear to the hoots and hollers of an excited group of passengers about 15 minutes before they started letting us on the boat.  The line to board was stretching all the way back to the entrance (of a VERY long port!) by this time, so I was glad to be close to the front.  (probably about 25 families back)  Once they started letting people on it was time to get out that photo ID one more time - along with that KTTK card.  Then it was under the Mickey Ears where they scanned the cards in a machine much like the ticket machines at the theme parks.  On a bit further you have a family portrait taken as an embarkation picture.  Now its on to the ship across a covered walkway.  We gave our family name to the very friendly CM on the other side and were announced onto the ship!  YEA!  We are finally here!!!

The ship is beautiful, and we loved everything!   We heard many people in line around us talking about the reservation rush, but we have it pretty easy.  We booked the Romantic Escape at Sea package and already have our Spa and Palo reservations!  :-)  This is a great package, and well worth the money if you already want a massage in the Spa!   Making spa and Palo reservations before boarding is no small perk either!  So it was off to the Oceanears Club to register Brinn and Maddy.  There were only a couple other families there so it went very quickly.  Fill out a form, and then a CM talked to use about the program.  We received our beeper (be careful - there's a $150 charge for lost or water damaged beepers!) We also received a Navigator (your daily events guide) specifically for the kids 5 - 7 containing all the week's upcoming events.  They also give each child a name band with all their info (name, beeper number, etc) and it attached like a hospital band - completely waterproof, and to be worn all week.  Kristen was less than thrilled about this, since it would show up in all the pictures, but its not too bad.  Better to have them safe, and knowing that if they get lost a CM can quickly contact us!  They also received name tags to where each time they visit.  We'll get to test all this out tomorrow when we drop them off before our massage!  :-)

OK.  Time for that first buffet.  We opted to head up to Topsiders on Deck 9.   Again, we were ahead of the crowd, so we got a good table, and quickly were enjoying our delicious meal.  Maddy fell in love with the Mac and Cheese and I was pretty partial to the HUGE peel and eat shrimp!  Yum!  TONS of great desserts as well.  A very good meal!

OK - Its about 1pm now, and we can't get into the room until 1:30 (we walked down, but they had it gated off and the stewards were still busily cleaning)  Good thing we carried on the swim bag.  stayed right on deck 9 and chanced in a rest room.  Out to the pool and enjoyed a GREAT time with very few other guests.  It wasn't crowded at all, so we encouraged the girls to REALLY hit the pool slide hard!  They probably won't see lines this short again!  ;-)   They LOVED the pool, and really enjoyed the slide.  I enjoyed watching them getting some photos and staying in a shaded chair off to the side!  Great spot to watch from, and very close to the drink stations.  The free soda station if near by, and more importantly the WATER!  Nice to have it so accessible!   Wandered around for a few pictures, and cooled off a bit with a quick dip in the pool myself.  Its a scorcher today, but beautiful and sunny!

cabinAround 2 or 2:30 it was off to check out the room.  We are in cabin 7560 which is midship, and fairly close to the elevators.   In we go and find three gifts waiting for us on the bed!!!  :-)   Now we expected the REAS gift basket (with champagne, chocolate and a nice Disney frame), but we also received a Disney Photo Memory box from Group bookings.  I'm assuming this is because we used All Season's Travel and they book as a group to get the best price.   It was a nice surprise, but the last basket was just amazing!!!  Some wonderful Internet friends had gotten us an amazing basket filled with wonderful goodies.  All Our Goodies! The 'basket' was a foot soaking tub that included bath salts, a loofa, two beach pillows and an absolute TON of beach toys for the girls!  buckets, and shovels, and boats, and sand toys galore!  Perched on top were two matching Sailor Pluto plush dolls and it was all I could do to keep the girls from tearing into that basket before I could get a picture!  I didn't even have a chance to take THEIR picture with the basket!!  :-)  A big thanks to my super generous friends!!  <waving>

sitting areaChecked out the cabin, and its wonderful!  We have a verandah, and it is just great!  Bigger than I had imagined with nice comfortable deck chairs and a small table.  Very private and just going to be a huge highlight of the trip!  Well, the girls were still in a pool mood, and headed back up.  I started putting some things away, and the luggage started to arrive, so I continued my domestic duties!  All the bags showed up but one.  (uh-oh...here we go again!)  I put everything away, but still had several piles for Kristen to deal with since I knew I'd do it wrong if I put those away.  :-)  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!  ;-)   Still no bag.

desk and/or makeup tableThe girls are back, and we continue the cleanup.  Its almost time for the lifeboat drill, so we pull down the life jackets and get them all figured out.  Kristen had better luck figuring them out than I did!  But we finally got them squared away right before the drill began.  We were off to station 1, packed in like sardines and listened for our room number during roll call.   It was really pretty painless, and after a quick talk we were sent back to our rooms.  They want you to keep your lifejacket on until you are back in the room.  Of course, many seem to feel this applies to everyone BUT them, so watch out for dragging straps, and swinging jackets in the crowded halls back to your room!

Ready for the Drill(Realtime break - I'm writing this TR about 6am Sunday morning.  Sitting on the Verandah, and the sun is rising in front of the ship.  Ahhhhh....  Nice breeze here, and the verandah is just wonderful.  We are going to be out here a LOT!  My power cable even reaches out here (I'm so long winded I used up the battery charge already!)  Back to our regularly schedule Trip Report)

Stowed the life jackets and finished up unpacking.  STILL no final bag....  A quick call to guest services said that we needed to wait until 6pm for all bags to be delivered... Uh - we have a 6pm dinner assignment, and that bag contains the toiletries and makeup case!  Well, off to the deck party and hope for the best!  We arrived a bit after 4:30 and the party was in full swing!  The girls are a bit shy, and we had trouble getting them to dance with the crowd!  Its a nice sendoff, and we even all enjoyed a nice frozen drink to get the party started.  (Well, OK - only mine was fully 'loaded', but it was still festive, and we get to keep the glasses!)  :-)

Ahhh, a cool refreshing drinkWalked up to deck 10 as we started to sail away.  Port employee's even waved us off!   It was fun cruising past the Carnival Glory and waving to all the passengers over there.  BIG ship, and from the number of people we saw on desk, holds a LOT of passengers!    We watched for a while, and then headed to the room to get ready for dinner.  Still no bag.   Sigh...  I got ready, and called again.
DancingCome down and identify the bag...  Had to describe the bag, and then the CM went back and played musical bags.  Is this it?  NOPE.  How about his one?  NOPE...  Then from a guest in line behind me, HEY, those are MY bags!  :-)  Turned out to be our next door neighbor!  Glad he found his bags, but ours was still AWOL.  Filled out some paper work, and we made due without it for dinner.  No deodorant for ME!  Well, all is not lost.  We arrived at Animator's Palette a bit late, but were seated at a table of just 4 RIGHT in the middle of the room.  GREAT view of everything going on around us, and I didn't offend any other guests with our lack of personal items!  :-)  Actually, we did OK for not having anything to get ready with, but its fun to make light of an annoying situation.

Characters Dancing during deck partyDinner was wonderful.  Our server, Milan and assistant server Maria were very friendly, and Milan remembered us from Topsiders where he was telling guests about the wine package.   Its a Small Ship after all!  OK - that was pretty bad...  I tried the lobster and ship wrap (delicious!), Maddy had some Caesar salad (and I had some of that too), and Brinn and Kristen the Chicken Noodle soap with Mickey pasta!  All were good, but the soup was a bit cool for Kristen's taste.  Maybe since it was a kids item it isn't served too hot.    Port Personnel waving goodbyeMaddy (of course) had 2 helpings of Mac and Cheese!  The rest of us had the Sirloin Steak.  (Brinn is a steak lover!)  Very good.  Mickey bars for desert for the girls, with chocolate cake for Kristen and Cheese cake for me.  Chocolate cake was dry, but the cheesecake was excellent, (and huge) so Kristen and I shared that.  A wonderful first meal, and the girls just LOVED the color effects in the Animator's Palette restaurant.  Very nice!

Animator's Palette

Off  too look around the ship just a bit.  A couple pictures on the deck and then off to the 8:30 Variety Show.   It was pretty full in there by 8:20, but our seats were still good and we got out quickly!  The show was good.  Started off slowly with introductions of crew, etc, but a juggler was great, and then a comedian/magician/ventriloquist was hilarious!  Even the girls were just cracking up!

Ready for dinnerOff to Shutters to find our Embarkation photo, and its a good one!  I bought the 10 picture package for $85.  One down, 9 to go!  We found Max down in the atrium and had a picture taken with him.  And then it was time for bed.   The girls were tired, and Maddy's stomach was a bit off after that double helping of Macaroni!

Family shotWonder of wonders, our errant bag has returned!  Yeah!!!  And the room had transformed into a bedtime setting.  Bed turned down, the obligatory chocolates waiting and a swan swimming across the bed.   Brinn's berth had been pulled down from the ceiling and both girls thought this was VERY cool.   Time for a good nights sleep - tomorrow is a busy one!   Character Breakfast in the morning followed by dropping he girls off at the Oceanears club and then our couples Massage at the Spa.    And excellent first day!  Now if we can just keep from losing anymore luggage!  ;-)Our first towel critter!
