Up and at ‘em REALLY early today. We are off to Animal Kingdom for early entry and that mean a tough time getting the girls moving! But the early (relatively) bedtime helped and soon we are all ready and heading down to the car.

I like to drive to the AK because the bus seems to take forever. Between the various other stops and Blizzard Beach dropoffs it can take 30 – 45 minutes. So, driving direct is a good choice. Especially for early entry since the space was pretty close.

There were a LOT of people here this morning for Early Entry and the lines were quite a ways back – but moved pretty quickly. Soon we were inside the park, and moved up to the rope drop closer to the tree of life. Here it became evident exactly how MANY people were here! Wow! It was PACKED. As they dropped the rope the crowds split – just under half heading for the safari, and the rest all going for Everest. I followed the Everest crowd to get some fast passes while the girls headed for the Safari where I would meet them.

The Everest line was WAY long by the time I got there – even the FastPass line was about 8 deep. I got my passes and headed back to the Safari to join the girls and get in line. This was about a 20 minute or so wait, maybe even 30. But worth it because the animals were out pretty well today. Still cooler (as cool as the AK ever gets in August!) and they weren’t all hiding in the shade someplace yet.

After the Safari we walked the Pangori Trail for more pictures of the animals. I’m enjoying the zoom lens on this Canon Rebel XTi, and for the first time this trip got so pretty good bird shots. The Gorillas were not cooperating for picture today. Either behind glass which makes for some reflective pictures, or refusing to look toward the people. I guess I can understand that. Who wants people staring at them all day!

Then it was back toward Asia where we did the Maharaja Trek. Tigers were sleepy already and not in good picture taking spots either. The bats were fun as always and I got a couple more decent bird shots.
OK – now on to Everest! Maddy is chomping at the bit for this one! Is it time yet? Can we go? Is it time NOW? Please? Huh? Can we? Brinn on the other hand is glad of every delay. She is still debating if she should try it or not... (not being the most likely!) So as we approach she is arguing with herself... And her drop hating self wins. Nope, not going this time. So she is off to the store with the camera bag and happy to wait for us there.

Fast Pass is a wonderful thing. We were through the line in just a few minutes and loaded in. Second and third seats so a great view. I love this one from the large climb with the incredible view, to the backwards motion and then big race through the mountain. Even the Yeti was working today! ;-) (He was missing and assumedly under repair last December when I rode)

Everest Time!We loved it and Brinn was happy to have skipped it. All was good with the world. It was just before 11 am, and as we headed over past Nemo we found the line moving. I assumed (incorrectly) that they were letting people in, and we finally found and joined the end of the line. A LONG line, but I knew we’d be OK since we made it in to a December show even farther back. But the show didn’t start for over half an hour. So we had to wait in the hot sun (found a bit of shade) and grabbed water JUST before eventually heading inside. We had some great seats, center stage, and really enjoyed the show. It is a fairly long performance, but very well done.

After this (and the wait in line) Kristen had had enough of Animal Kingdom. :-) While she likes the park, it can be unbearably hot. By 1pm, it was frying hot and we decided it was best to head back to the resort. We stopped for our yearly picture with the girls at Rainforest Cafe, and then it was out to the car and cranked that A/C to cool off!

'Ohana FirepitWe grabbed a quick lunch at the Roaring Fork after we returned and then it was time for a bit of a nap before going to dinner and then Pirates and Princess night. Our late night/early rising was catching up with the girls and us and we all needed an hour snooze!

sweep those pineapples! We woke up and got ready. Tonight starts out at ‘Ohana, and then on to the party. Since we were going to the party as well we decided to catch the first boat and then jump on the Monorail. The smaller Contemporary boat arrived first and we were off. Then on to the Monorail for a ride to the Polynesian. We love the boats and monorail so this just adds to the fun.

The line at ‘Ohana was WAY LONG. I think they were just opening, so everyone was arriving at once. We were soon waiting our turn, and even the wait for the table was pretty short. They had a singer in the lounge area to help pass the time, and Kristen had gotten us all Tiki shirts at the Disney Store before we left home. Our server was soon there to take us to our table and while we weren’t in the main area in front of the fire pits, we had nice window seats with the MK visible in the distance.

Learning the HulaThe girls were less than thrilled with the food choices at first. Big no on the shrimp. (Mine, all mine! Yum!) and not thrilled with the chicken wings either (mmmmmmmm) Even the salad wasn’t a hit with them because they didn’t care for the dressing. Bummer. But the scalloped potatoes and meats went over great! LOVED the steak – everyone’s favorite – and I really liked the pork as well. I thought the Turkey a bit dry, and the sausage (which I usually love sausage) was just plain tasteless. :-P Still – PLENTY for all to fill up on, and of course a second helping of those excellent potatoes. The dessert was OK, but we missed the pineapple.

We grabbed a few pictures before leaving, and the girls had joined in the various kid activities as well. Lots of fun!

Matching Tiki shirtsWe then changed into our ‘pirate’ gear. Nothing fancy, just shirts and a few little things like pins, my pirate hat ears, Brinn’s hook hand and Maddy’s wrist irons. :-) I had a Hook T-shirt and Kristen Tinkerbelle. The girls both had Pirates of the Caribbean shirts. I think after seeing all the girls in princess costumes they would have liked those better though. ;-) Still – T-shirts are easier to pack and cooler! :-D

We then jumped on the monorail and two stops later we were at the Magic Kingdom. TONS of Pirates and Princesses along the way and outside the park. People were really into it and some of the costumes were VERY elaborate. The dresses and even some of the pirate outfits had to be boiling hot, but definitely LOOKED good! :-D The park was emptying out of normal day guests while party goers were arriving. There was a smoke or fog machine near the entrance and they were passing out little black drawstring goodie bags for us all to fill at the various treasure spots around the parks.

Pirate and Princess Party Character and other shots

Pirate and Princess PartyLots of pirate and princess displays and even the CM’s were dressed as pirates or princesses. We headed off to Tomorrowland to find the first treasure area and got a few pieces of candy each. They had it pretty frozen, but it still was getting soft in the heat of the evening. But not too bad. Nearby was another treasure location and this one was passing out a colored beaded necklace. This repeated over the night. Candy and different colored beads from stop to stop. We had quite a collection by the end of the night!

Brinn with a hook hand and Maddy in chains! For rides, the lines were pretty short. We hit Buzz, Space Mountain (Brinn rode this time!) and the Raceway (very quick and short line – yes!) and then headed into Toontown. Here we spent way too much time waiting to see Aurora, Minnie and Daisy Duck, but the girls were thrilled to see them all, and they were great with us all. Very interactive and my Pirate Mickey ears and Mickey on our backpack made Minnie very happy. :-)

Aurora was great as well, and although it took about 30 minutes to get in, turned out to be worth it.

Treasure SpotWe headed back into the park, and it was almost time for the fireworks, so we found a spot for those. The party fireworks tend to be excellent, and these were no exception. Great show and afterward we headed into Adventureland to find Jasmine’s meet and greet area. She was behind the flying carpets, and had her own 20 – 25 minute line. Still, the girls loved seeing her and then we headed over to find a place for the second parade. MUCH less crowded at the second parade, and we found a fine spot only 15 minutes early. And while the free space filled in, no obnoxious mom’s cramming their kids into you at the last second either. Gotta love that second parade! :-D

Castle at the end of the nightAnd we did! GREAT parade with fun princess and pirate characters. And it was awesome to see a full size Tinkerbell as well. Much fun and work the short wait. We then headed for Big Thunder, but it was just too crowded and getting a bit late. We headed back toward Fantasyland hitting several more treasure spots and getting pictures with Hook and Smee.

We finished the night off with Dumbo (short line and Maddy wanted to do this one) and then the girls really wanted to go to the dance party (right behind Dumbo). They loved the music, and explained – “How many times will we be able to dance with FISH?”. LOL Its a Sebastian under the sea dance party, so Little Mermaid fish were there including Flounder! It was fun, and we didn’t mind sitting and watching too much. Along with an ice cold milkshake to enjoy using up some of the many snack credits we still had.

After the party ended it was time to head out. The park was slowly emptying, and we didn’t have to wait too long for a boat back. It was another great day, and tomorrow morning we head for Vero! Really looking forward to returning there again this year!
