Walking
in from the dock, we decided to stop at the Pearl Factory. The
girls
started getting these last year in Japan, but this year we decided to
try here. Elena was great and very informative. Told us all
about
Oysters and pearls. How it all worked, and spent quite a bit of
time
with us. The girls each picked out an oyster, and then had Elena
open
them up. We learned that the Oysters are actually deceased
already,
and have been for some time before the pearl is removed - so they
aren't being hurt when pearl is removed.
Elena also told us all about the inside of the Oyster, and we all found
it rather interesting. Finally she pulled out the pearl from each
one. Maddy's was first and had a very nice pink pearl, around 6.5
mm.
Brinn next, and hers was a Blue pearl just a tad larger then
Maddy's.
The second rarest according to Elena! ;-) It is very
pretty.
I decided to get
the drilled right now and little necklace settings
added. Elena, being the excellent saleswoman asked mom if she
would
like one too! ;-) AND that she would buy the pearl!
Oh, the setup!
LOL - I thought this would be nice, all the girls would have pearl
pendants from the trip, so we decided to do it. *I* got to pick
because (supposedly) men are 'luckier' at picking pearls. Well,
it
wasn't another blue one, but I a nice champagne colored one just over
7mm. The PROBLEM was that Elena had a beautiful setting that both
Kristen and I liked best (yellow gold with a small diamond) that was
$150! The Score! LOL. Well, no more t-shirts for
Kristen and they
definitely make their money on the settings so be forewarned. The
girl's settings were also gold and cost about $25 each. Dad is
done
buying souvenirs for them for awhile! Elena epoxied each
piece and we
can bring them back tomorrow to have them checked. I just better
leave
my charge card in the room this time! :-D
OK - its getting late and we're off to MGM in the morning. Time
for some shuteye! |
