    Next Day
Well, the trip has finally arrived and it was a bit rough getting started even before today. Our van was in for service to fix the air-conditioning and when we got it back the new compressor started screeching after we drove the van less than two miles down the road. Groan…. We were leaving in two days and we needed that van to get us to Albany to take our Southwest flight. But, worst case we can take mom’s Camry which should be large enough to carry us and the luggage.

So, next morning it was back to the shop for the van. The new compressor was defective and would need to be replaced. Again. At least they could get us right in and took responsibility. I was less than pleased dealing with this, but they were quite good about everything and knew we were leaving the next day for vacation.

NY Countryside on a rainy dayWhile the van was in for service Kristen was running around with the Camry. NEVER have a problem with this car, right? WRONG. Brakes started acting up, and brake light comes on. No more driving that… they better fix that stupid van! A/C or not, we NEED it by tomorrow morning.

Off that night to pick it up. They had called a couple hours earlier and it was only supposed to be an hour more. We waited an extra hour, showed up, and they were still working on it!! :-O Had to leave (mechanic stayed late to finish it, so I should NOT complain – this was all on their nickel! You don’t get service like that too often these days).

STRESS – Great! Van still torn apart. Camry no brakes. Arrrrrggggghhhhh. Throw in work and site related stress and I was bouncing off the walls. But – otherwise we were better prepared than ever before. Everything packed and ready to go. After all these years I think we have it down to a science. Everything is done without even dividing up the work. We just KNOW our responsibilities and get everything done. THAT part was very nice.

So, off the next morning (flight day!) to get the van. Its ready. No word if it is fixed or not, but its ready and the cost is only for one additional part they needed. I’m very happy and drive it home. Air so cold we had to turn it way down! :-) Whew!

So, we pack everything up, even clean up the house a bit and off we go! I pull out the van and ask Kristen to pull the Camry into the driveway. She pulls it in and suddenly swerves in front of my car and off the edge of the driveway a bit into a bush before finally stopping! :-O I was let, “What the heck are you doing?” and she is freaking out because the car would not stop at all now! Yikes! She (VERY smartly) pulled the emergency brake to stop it where she did. All she could see was driving through the new garage door we installed just last year! Nice save Kristen!

Brinn and Maddy in the CS lobbySo, I move it and do all my breaking with the emergency brake. That sucker has NO brakes at all now. NOT good. So, I left a not on the table for the housesitter – “If you need an exciting joy ride, take the Camry... cause it has NO BRAKES!” :-D OK – I only told them NOT to move it because of the brakes, but told Kristen I wrote the first note! LOL She was still shaking a bit, but did see the humor. A little! ;-)

Anyway – enough car trouble. Lets get the heck out of here already. It was lightly raining today and the temperature had dropped to a point that was very surprising! It was only 57 at noon!!! Quite a drop from the 90’s earlier that week. I told everyone to enjoy the moment and remember it well, because for the next two weeks we were going to be broiling.. I can only hope we take a bit of this coolness with us, but I’m sure not counting on it! ;-)

A nice, wet, cool (I insisted on running the A/C even though we didn’t need it! ) ;-) It was the principal of the thing! Its about a 2.5 hour drive to the Albany airport and a pretty easy, straight through drive. Very easy – very Uneventful. A nice start. We left early enough to stop for an early dinner at a Macaroni Grill. VERY good and I haven’t been to one of these since we first tried one in Albuquerque before we were married. Had the girls convinced they only served grilled macaroni. :-D But they brightened up when they were told they could draw on the paper table cloth. Food was very good and we then had a bit of time to hit a store or two.

Off to the airport and parked no problem. On in to the Southwest checkin counter for our next mini adventure. I missed it completely but Kristen was pulling two of the bags behind me and muttered something about being wet as I lifted her bag to the luggage check. It was all wet and I asked what happened. Guess the woman behind her took a big swig of water and swallowed wrong, choked and then spit out the water all over Kirsten and the bag!! LOL – ewwwww That poor girl is having a rough day! :-D After I stopped laughing (and the checking woman stopped laughing) we moved along. And the ‘spitter’ told us to have a nice trip! Oops. Guess we should NOT of been making fun, Kristen said she felt really bad and was quite embarrassed. But is sounded like something I would do, and nothing a towel and a bit of hand sanitizer won’t fix! :-D

Coronado Springs roomOn through the security check and no problems. We got to our gate and ended up second in line in the A section. NICE. Of course, we have to wait two hours – but that just gives us time to play some Gameboy, listen to the ipod and write up trip reports. On with the trip! :-)

Plane arrived a bit early and they loaded us right on. As soon as all the passengers arrived we even took off ten minutes early. And arrived 15 minutes early! The flight itself was fine and I guess the weather changed for the better and made for a more direct flight. I really enjoy flying Southwest. Their flight attendants have a sense of humor that most others just don’t have. I think they realize that people appreciate it more these days than the more strictly professional old standard airlines. Little things like, “please at least pretend to pay attention to the air flight instructions...” and “If you have kids, were sorry” Even the landing was amusing. As we pull up to the gate he was saying... “Wait for it... wait for it... NOW – Get out! I wanna go home!” :-)

CS Room Dining tableThen it was into the terminal and off to baggage claim. There must have been four or five planes ahead of us at the carousel. We waited FOREVER for our luggage to come out. But eventually it did and then it was off the the National Emerald Aisle. I love this service, and while there was no vans or SUVs tonight, we ended up with a nice large Sonnata that could hold all our luggage in the trunk. This was saying something, and the A/C was excellent! Blew you right out of the car. It was STILL (11:30) mighty hot out, and we were soon turning it down as we got cold!

We took the 417 toll road and paid $2.50 total to get off at exit 6. We were headed to Coronado Springs for our first stay. Its only one night, but we’re looking forward to checking it out. We arrived a little after midnight and were quickly checked in. Our room was off a ways in the Ranchero section (6A to be exact) and there was NO parking anywhere near the room. We ended up way down near 7B which was a bit of a haul, but we only had to take a few bags for the night. Room was nice and I have a bunch of pictures.

Bathroom AreaOn the way to the resort, Brinn realized
her Gameboy was missing! :-O This wasn’t just the game, but her case, all her games and charger. Seems SOMEONE must have found a great prize either in the airport or on the plane, because it was gone. She was VERY upset most of the ride to the resort, and we called the airport, but to little avail. We could not even get the baggage handlers to answer the phone and the voice mail was full! We finally found a place to leave a message, but no return call and little hope this item will be coming home anytime soon. I think Brinn learned a valuable lesson though. This is the child that leaves her hat/sunglasses/whatever behind more often than not. And this time it hit her where it mattered. I sure hope it helps her pay just a bit more attention. (But I’m not holding my breath!) ;-)

We were all pretty tired so it was straight to bed. Tomorrow the plan was to hit the Coronado Springs pool and spend a bit of time at the resort, but on the way in we saw how close Blizzard Beach is. We may just go there instead!

Maybe a rough start to the vacation, but the Disney park was going well so far! :-)
