After the late night yesterday, we all
needed to sleep in a bit longer this morning, so we cancelled our Breakfastosaurus
reservation. I made a breakfast of scrambled eggs, ham and cheese
- bagels and toast as a humble replacement. It was actually nice to
not be stuffed! Too many 'all you care to eat' meals make Jack a fat
boy!
Thought about driving to Animal Kingdom (AK) since I heard not so great
things about the buses at Wilderness Lodge, especially to AK. Since
we weren't in a hurry, we gave the buses a shot. While remotely bearably
it wasn't a pleasant trip coming or going. Caught the 8:30 bus and
it was packed. Kristen and the girls found some seats in the far back.
Kristen said the seat was super warm (from the engines). I
stood holding a stroller near the stairwell, and the bus was full all the
way to the front with standers and some guests were turned away. The
AK bus is shared with Fort Wilderness guests and also stops at Blizzard
Beach (BB), so that seems to really fill them up. You stop at BB first,
then on to AK. We did not arrive until 9 am, so it took half an hour
to get there. Yuk.
Park was already open so we headed through security. I got the
most thorough guard
yet. Pretty much had to unpack the backpack so he could see every thing
in the bag. The other guards had just rummaged around. He was
very pleasant, and I appreciate them doing a better job as opposed to a
lacking one! (Can't speak for the people in line behind me though!)
:-)
Zipped into the park and walk to Dinoland. The girls
played in the playarea until I got back with Safari fast passes. I
had a nice stroll around the entire park, took some pictures and then met
up with the girls again. We use the radios when we separate and they
work great. Headed in and did AK's version of Dumbo - Triceratops Spin.
The girls never seem to get bored with this sort of ride, and the line
was short. We played a few games and the girls each ended up with a
rather nice stuffed dinosaur. Games cost 2 dollars each and they had
the typical set. Girls played 'whack a mole' (Sorry Moley!) Dinosaur
style and the CM was great. Started the game right away so that no one
else would play! :-) Pretty much guarenteed a win for one of
them. Repeated this a bit later when Maddy's death grip on that poor
stuffed dino proved that sharing was not an option.
We headed for the Primeval Whirl to do the parent swap. Brinn turned
out to be border line 48 inches, but the CM at the loading area let her
go. It really could have gone either way, so she was pretty lucky.
I would have understood if they said no. Maddy waited in a nice
holding area with first Kristen and then me. They gave her a little
dinosaur finger puppet to play with that she is quite proud of. The
ride was a lot of fun, and we all enjoyed it. Really liked it once
the car starts spinning. Since the girls had no interest in riding
Dinosaur (too scary!) we headed for Africa since we were in our Fast Pass
ride window. Picked up a Kali River Rapids fast pass on the way, and
then zipped by another jillion standby safari riders and off we went.
This was about 10:15am and we saw a ton of animals. Had a great time
and the girls loved it. It was starting to get both hot and
crowded and Maddy had another tramatic potty experience. Now, all
she has to do is SEE these special self flush toilets and the screaming begins...
Sigh.
(** Aside: I'm sitting out on our balcony at sunrise typing this. It
is a beautiful morning and the critters are making so much creaking and
croaking noise I almost have to believe Disney amplifies it! The
sky is all pink and blue and I have to just say, I'm having a great old
time! This is MUCH better than taking Maddy to the restroom!)
:-)
Anyway, back to AK... After a bit of roaming it was time
for Kali river rapids. Brought along our 2 gallon ziplock bags for
shoes, fanny packs and the camera bag. Worked great! We just
got wet, but the woman across from us was in the soaker seat. She
got drenched twice! She took it with great good nature though. :-)
Fun ride, the girls loved it.
