Anybody up on the tours offered? I've seen a little bit of info on the Welcome to Disneyland and the Walk in Walt's Footsteps (?) tours. What are the big differences and would you recommend one over the other?
I can't wait until the new Passporter Disneyland comes out so I won't feel like such an idiot.

I'd be up for one.. I've been to DL once and I think I'd rather spend some time on a tour than doing attractions we have at WDW.. I know POC is neater and longer than WDW. The HM has a dif exterior but i don't remember the actual inside. Anyhow, I'm game... I was actually looking at them too but didn't have time to really read about the details. Let's see if anyone here has done any.. i hope, i hope...

Alicia,
I did the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour which was really good. Its similar to the Keys To The Kingdom Tour at WDW without the backstage portion. There is of course, more emphasis on Walt's personal contributions to the park. We did learn alot on the tour and our host's enthusiasm for his job blew away his counterpart we had on the Keys Tour in WDW. If you are going to be at DL for more than a day or two I would definately book this tour. We got to go into the entrance-way of the exclusive Club 33, with white gloves touch the very first flower for the original Tiki Birds, had lunch on a balcony coutyard of the Disney Gallery (which was to be Walt and Roy's apartments in the park.) We were granted access to a balcony in New Orleans Square for panoramic photos that we would not have gotten from any other vantage point. We were also clued in to a few Hidden Mickeys that we found later on our own. It was definately a positive experience.

Thank you, Terri! :D You might not have seen this, but there is a group of us who've signed up to do the Inagural Disneyland 1/2 Marathon in September '06. We've got a thread going in the Eye on Health forum. You should come out then! The tour sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.
Sharon, I think we just found our way into Club 33, even if it's only the entrance. That balcony lunch sounds like it's in the same spot as the balcony seating for the Fantasmic dessert thingy. Cool!

Nope, not the same balcony. The lunch is served on the second story of the Disney Gallery, outdoors on a little courtyard like area between rooms of the Gallery. You cannot see the rest of the park from this area. When we were took the tour it was really cool because they were showing props and story boards for the Pirates Of The Carribean movie in the Gallery and on the porch/balcony where we had lunch was the wooden lady from the front of the Black Pearl.
The Fantasmic dessert buffet is on a balcony that overlooks New Orleans Square and Tom Sawyer's Island where Fantasmic takes place.
Thanks for the tip about everyone heading there for the marathon. I need to get to DL in 2006 before the 50th celebration is over.

I did the Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour too. A really fun experience as it turned out this was my hostess' first tour and I was the only guest. I was asked to be in a photo with her and her co-workers after lunch on the Gallery balcony. They presented her with a special pin.
I saw the inside of Club 33, downstairs and had a photo taken of me in the lift. Was taught about the Tiki Birds, Walt, the park itself, and so on. They give you a pin at the end of the tour too.

We did the "From Inspiration to Celebration" Tour back in May. This one is new - was added for the 50th. During this tour you ride between 3-5 attractions (each representing a different decade). You also see the new film with Steve Martin and ride the train. All the rides we were backdoored into. The first tour of the day does 5 rides, the 2nd tour does 3 rides and gets Priority seating for the parade. the last tour of the day (the one we did) goes on 3 rides and gets reserved seating for the fireworks!
We got to sit on the balcony/patio at the train station, overlooking main st. While there we also got a snack box.
To comemorate the tour we were each given a group photo (taken at the start in front of the train station), a pin, and a special booklet. They also hinted that around Christmas time we would each be sent a frame for the picture.
We loved this tour and learned a lot about the park we didn't know.
The tour lasted 4 hours - not including the fireworks.

I'm definitely game for the tour - I wonder if it can be done on an ecv?

Ursulinda,
I would think an ECV would be totally doable on the tour. All the attractions are accessible.
It was a great tour!

Nope sorry - they point out the door but that's as close as you get.
But my understanding is if you reserve Fantasmic balcony seating and are in a wheelchair - the CM's bring you up in the Club 33 elevator as the Gallery doesn't have an elevator. (At least this is how they did it summer of 2003 when we we did the Fantasmic balcony seating)

[b]I did one of the tours a few years ago--and I think it was the Walk in Walt's Footsteps. Unfortunately, my tour was awful. The tour guide left a lot to be desired. And don't get me wrong--I am not difficult to please. He didn't know a whole lot about Disney.
After a couple of erroneous comments, which I pointed out to him privately during the time that the other tour members were on a potty break, he kind of figured out that he couldn't flub his way through the tour that I was on--and he obviously didn't do his homework. He even started asking if different things he was saying was right.
Maybe I will try again in the future/

FLSharon,
Remember: if you want to ride in the Club 33 lift to the balcony to watch Fantasmic that you will have to be in a wheelchair and hide your castle medal!
