View Full Version : If you "only" had 500 points in 2006

Here's a fun one:

How would you spend your points in 2006 if you "only" had 500 to use? You can't bank and you can't borrow. :) (Let's say for the sake of argument, vacation time/pay is not a consideration - oh let the dreamin' begin!)

For us:
Anniversary trip in May We love the warm weather and the low crowds. The F&G festival makes everything look so beautiful! We'd pick the standard villas to save on points, but to allow us the best in location!
Studio in a standard view at BWV from May 21-29 = 118 points

Christmas with the Family
Sure, we could prbably get in a lot more trips by using either a studio or not bringing our family, but some of our best memories have been when we traveled with our family - so that's how we would use our points!
2 bedroom at VWL with family from December 17-29 = 377 points

That leaves us with 5 to spare (perhaps we will transfer to one of you!) ;)

We really enjoy trips that are at least 10 days and we find that we relax more when we don't check in/out of resorts during the same trip (then again, don't ask me how we came up with that since I can only remember one trip in the last few years where we actually stayed put!).

How would YOU spend your 500 points?

Well, we'll be spending around 450 next year so, here it is,

January - 6 days in SSR for Marathon

September - Alaska cruise for 10-year anniversary (yes, I knw some would not consider this best use of points, but it's what we want to do).

With those extra 50, maybe I'd do the DL half marathon enroute to VanCouver for cruise.

I would go to Disneyland Paris and Disneyland for 3-4 days each.

And if I had points leftover - book a 2 br the beginning of Dec and either invite my sister and her DS and DDIL or my DSD and her family.

lol Tom yeah yeah :P

If I had 500 points for 2006, I would take our spring break trip (which we have a Grand villa at OKW :minnie: for 270 points).

A cruise would be so tempting - but I am a points stretcher usually, soooooooooo

A 5 nights during the Food and Wine Festival staying at the Boardwalk in a Preferred one bedroom (hey - a girl can dream)

5 nights at SSR or OKW in December to enjoy the Christmas decorations and that special time of year.

That would come close to draining me!

You all are some good point users!! I can't even remember how many points it takes to take a cruise - me thinks that we will be waiting until we have kiddos for that. ;)

Laura - 5 nights during F&W sounds great! I really want to go again (it's been about 10 years).

Hmmm, I don't have the points in front of me, but I know I could do a grand Villa at the BW for 6 nights in value season. I think I'll waste the whole lot on that. I'll take my parents and my brother and sister. I've always wanted to do a family trip down there. How awesome would it be too share a huge place like that! :-)

WDWDen - can your family adopt me?

Well, failing that, here's my plan for the 500 pts for 2006:

NOTE: I took creative liberites. Since we're "assuming" we have vacation time and money's no object, I am also assuming (a) I would actually fly! Ooooh, now THERE'S a novel idea! A trip wherein I don't spend 4 days of it en route! Wild Assumption #2: I could get family to take the kids for a few days! it's a fantasy ... but not a reality. (1) I would never ask. (2) They could never handle it -- I love 'em, but my trio is quite a load, LOL! So with that in mind here goes...

Feb 5-9: 4 nights celebrating DH's 40th birthday at Vero in an ocean view inn room - just the two of us!
October 3-7: 4 nights at VWL, celebrating MY 40th, a 1BR, again, just DH and me!
Sandwich inbetween 7 nts in AUgust in a 2BR at BCV (along with 4 nights paid cash over in HRH for US/IOA) to give the whole clan 11 nights in Orlando during the summer (and during mine and DH's 16th anniversary). Total pts used: 497. Guess I'll donate 3 to the general slush fund!

Not bad! As it stands now, however, the reality is that we're using about 300 pts for a 2br at OKW for an August trip in 2006 in a 2br, along with 4 nites at HRH for US/IOA. I am still debating an attempt to try to pay cash for 2 nts at BCV and get the pts ressie with the 300 pts for 6 nights over at BCV to go with it... kids do love SAB in the summer. BUt it's been a loooong time since we went to OKW and we're due, I think!

If I had 500 points for 2006 which were use 'em or lose 'em I'd spend 142 points on a 1 BR at BCV 2/12 - 2/17 so that dw and I could spend our actual Silver Anniversary (2/15) at our favorite place.

Then from 9/24 - 10/1 I'd have my brothers and sisters and their spouses join us in a Grand Villa at OKW. That'll cost me 356 points.

That leaves 2 points. Anyone want to rent them?

If we had 500 points I would extend our April 23rd 2006 trip another 2 nights so we would be there on my 40th birthday...eeks :minnie:

I would also book the October Member Cruise :captain: because my dh's 40th birthday is in October and maybe stay 2 to 3 nights in a Studio and hopefully will be able to attend MNSSHP. :pumpkinCat: My ds8 and ds5 at that time would probably love it. But I think that would put us over 500 points and we would have to pay cash for some part of the cruise.
