View Full Version : 'Hidden' status

Hi Dave,

I just wanted to point something out---I don't know if it's a glitch or something that can be fixed by someone with admin privileges.

OK, call me a paranoid freak, but at all the sites I go to, I like to have my online status "hidden". I realize that the admins can always see everyone who is online (and I guess now on this board the mods can too if they have Supermoderator privileges), but I like to be hidden anyway (like I said, I'm a total freak  ).

Anyway, on the forum index page under "Who is Online" my name is hidden, like it always has been. However, when I actually click into a forum, over on the right hand side of the page my name is listed under the "Members Online" heading. It kinda makes the whole 'hidden' thing pointless, lol. If you have time, can you look into this? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks and the site looks fabulous!

Ugh! That's me above, Dave.

That's another thing--the site keeps logging me out! I have logged in 4 or 5 times and have checked the 'remember me' box each time :???:

LOL AmyA!

I have no answer about the hidden status -- sounds like a little detail that might be able to be fixed eventually. But like I said I am not the tech person here far from it! :?

And the log off thing - is happen to several of us - I understand it is a bit frustrating - Thanks for hanging in there as this new forum gets broken in and the bugs worked out! :flowers:

You are not alone AmyA. Seems like they forgot that little detail when coding the Discussion Forum Status Block. I'll take a look and see what I can do. Might be a couple days or so.

As to the logout thing, I've heard a few people say they have been spontaneously logged out, but it has not happened to me. Until I can recreate it, I can't really debug it...

The only time I've had it log me out was when I was bopping between this forum and the old one. THAT would confuse it into making me log in each time I came back to either.

If you can figure out WHEN its logging you out, then that might help. It also uses cookies to maintain login info. Have them turned on?

Are you sure you didn't log out so that your name wouldn't show up on that list over there?

OK, I looked into this and its not a nice easy fix (in the least bit).

I've turned the feature off while I do some research to see if a patch is available or until I have time to hack the code.

While I like the Members Online listing there, I don't like making anyone uncomfortable by 'saying' online status will be hidden when it isn't.

Dave,
Thanks so much for looking into this. If you want to keep the Members Online feature on, that's OK with me. I can live with being 'nonstealth' for awhile, lol.

I also started to pay attention to when I was being erroneously logged out. It seems to happen the most often when I open up a link that is embedded into a post. When I shut the linked page, I have been logged out of Tagrel.com, too---even though Tag.com stays on the same page/post that I was on when I opened the link. Weird, huh?
