Has anyone encountered problems with their suitcases being too heavy?
continental has a new policy about this and I am concerned as my luggage always weighs a ton. Any problems since this new policy took effect this spring? Diane

I'm flying Song Airlines my next trip to Disney and when I checked their baggage requirements on their website I found I'm limited to two checked 50lb bags (in addition to my carry ons). It's a good thing I checked because I normally bring only one bag. Between my clothes and gifts/souvenirs I'd have on my return flight I'd prolly be over that weight limit and be charged a MINIMUM $25 overweight charge. This trip I'll just take two bags to play safe and split the load between the two.

My suggestion is to check the Continental site for their latest baggage requirements. If you feel that even so you'll be overweight remember Disney will ship most items to your home for a small fee. I know I'll be doing a lot of shipping because of the weight limits now

Yes, I just flew Northwest and was reminded at the counter of the 50lb. load in each suitcase. I'm not sure what the penalty was for the overage, but I believe that 50lbs. is pretty standard. I think it's harder for we women as our makeup, et al, is generally much heavier then our guy's shaving cream. Perhaps you can balance your suitcases by putting some heavy stuff in each case and/or taking some along in your carry-on, too. And then, as Andy suggested, have Disney ship home your souvenirs. Not only does that solve the extra weight-in-the-suitcase problem, but you also won'thave to worry about possible jostling and breakage on your flight.

Nancy, I'm not even going to take advantage of that opening :happytears: And since I have a beard, I don't worry about the shaving cream! :D
But I also like to just have the one bag. I guess I'll have to do the weighing thing before we leave to be sure we don't break any rules.

I just want to add that if you use Disney to ship your items, you pay no sales tax on the merchandise you are shipping which helps defray the shipping costs!
The greatest thing about the shipping is it is less things to have to bring back with you, you don't have to worry about it getting stolen/broken in your luggage, it arrives a few days after you get home and have already unpacked, plus if anything arrives broken, Disney is very prompt about replacing it.

A word of caution about shipping. We did it in 2002. ANd I love it but we didnt get our things for about 5 or 6 weeks. SO only ship what you can wait to get. Your so right the sales tax really offset the shipping fee for us.

We traveled Delta this June and were over the limit. The counter clerk had us open our bags and shift stuff around as best we could (into other bags). We were still over, but since she appreciated our effort she let it pass. I never even thought about the limit.
