View Full Version : Multi-resort Refillable Mugs - seen 'em?

When we were at HHI in August, we bought refillable mugs - they have the HHI pier on them, with Mickey/Minnie lazing about on them. My sister and her family, on the same week, were down at Vero. They too bought refillable mugs. ON their way north, we invited them to stop in and share our 2BR villa for a night. She got out her mugs and said, "THey told me at VB these are good at ANY DVC resort until the end of the year." I admit it -- I kinda looked at her funny (the way you look at your kid when they say the teacher didn't give any homework, like, That's nice, but you don't fully believe it 'til you check it out for yourself!) She took her mugs to the window at Tide Me Over -- sure enough, they filled it and said, "Oooo, you're lucky, there's not many of this kind left!"

Huh?

Looking at them, they say Disney Vacation CLub. In a ring around those words are little symbols -- each one represents a different DVC. There is a symbol for each resort! I can't wholly recall them all -- seems like there was a sand castle or such for Vero, something similar for BCV, maybe fishing gear for HHI, and horse head or shoe or such for SSR, etc.

AM I nutso? I thought the refillable mugs were only good at the resort in which you buy them. Had there been a "DVC-universal" mug I probably would have bought one at BCV last year and used it at BWV and SSR for our 13 day trip! I just figured you couldn't "resort hop" your mug... did I miss something? Or is it only those mugs? Or is that just a generic desing (meant to save them from having to print up specific resort mugs) and really does NOT mean they are "good at any resort all year long" - somebody had that info wrong?

Has anyone else seen these? What gives?

gopherit,

This is the first I've heard of it, but since your sister was able to use hers from VB at HHI it's obviously true. That must be something new though. I know that ds got one from BCV last Aug. and it was only good at BC.

BTW love the name and welcome.

ALL mugs are multi-resort refillable!!! Trust me!!

Actually, I have not seen or heard of this either!! If I were you, I would have beaten her up and taken the mug!! :-)

I'll have to look into this!

Never heard of it and I was just at BWV. They didn't have them there!

I looked at ours from HHI in June. Apparently we didn't get them. Just the standard Mickey and Minnie on the HHI pier.

Hmmmm.... I'd love these. We tend to do 2 or 3 DVC's during our trips and these would be great! I've never seen them though. I guess they were right! Not many of that kind around at ALL!

I wonder if she paid the same price for her mugs? Maybe an extra fee for it to be transferable to other resorts?

If not, she received a great deal!

Nope - she paid the same as me!

It had the year on it "2005" and she said there weren't many ofthem left at Vero, and that the HHI person at Tide Me Over had even commented on it, like, "Oooooh, lucky you got one of the last ones!" I don't know if that means they are usually all bought by August, or if that means they are never doing them again, or what! They didn't have any like that for sale at HHI, I do know that -- because I looked at all the usual venues just to see (Signals, Tide Me over, Mercantile) -- only the HHI ones with the pier shot!

I thought it was cool the way there was a little sympol for each resort... I think it was a coonskin cap for VWL... maybe I can get my sis to take a digital pic of her mug and I'll share it! (The beat-her-up-and-grab-the-mug-and-run approach suggested by WDWDen might not make for pleasant future family time around the THanksgivign table... besides, she was in DVC way before me and let me use lots of her points before we joined in '99... I owe her the security of her mug, at least!)

I would LOVE to be able to buy one set of mugs a year! We don't buy them because of multiple trips to multiple locations. They also hold about 2 sips of coffee for me, spill easily in the car (unless you get the car mug which I didn't see the first time), and it never fails it is 10 million miles to the refil station from WHERE EVER I am.

We also don't just do DVC resorts as I am a nut for things like Star Wars Weekends, Braves Spring training games, etc where we go for a weekend and I just can't bear to use our points for a Friday/Sat night stay! (maybe when I am right and famous, I will have enough points to not worry about it - but for now, I am stretching those puppies as far as they will travel!)

If that's what it takes to never worry about points again, DH and I will NEVER be content and add-ons are futile!! 'Cause we're pretty sure no matter what, ONE of us is always WRONG!

Yup, we saw them in August.

We were tempted to pick one up at Vero, since we were on our way to HHI, but didn't (long story) And yes, they were not available at HHI.

What I did see that I never noticed before was a scanner at the refill station at Blizzard Beach. IF I had a minute I was going to inquire. It made me wonder if you bought a mug (or even a mig) somewhere and it had a code that the mug would be good at other refill stations for a set amount of time. But alas, I never had a chance to figure out why folks were scanning their mugs.

At HHI the Mgr told me they were working no implementing a new mug system, but gave no details. We were discussing the length of time the mugs would be good for, since I was buying one in March and planned on using it again in August. So I was under the impression Disney was considering something like a limited time, though multi location mug system.

I also seem to recall Greenban claiming to be a bit of a mug specialist - Where is Greenban anyway?

Dunno - sent him a pm and email through DIS but I didn't have a contact outside of there.

I was hoping he would find his way here :)

Man - that would really be nice to have a mug that worked at multiple resorts. Even if it was just for one trip (like Tag, we tend to stay at two resorts during any one trip). What a great perk that would be for DVCers if they would allow us to obtain an "annual mug" that worked at all the DVC resorts!

Although I never remember to take mugs BACK to WDW, I am one of those that bought two at the Poly way back when they first started the idea of refillable mugs. And it really is true that we were told we could use them ANYWHERE (except the Beach Club or the GF) FOREVER. I think back then, they never dreamt that people would bring the bulky darn things on another trip. (I know I never seem to remember to do so.) But honestly, that is what we were told.

I too have a problem in that I don't drink sodas or sweetened drinks ...so for me, it was coffe or tea and the mug just didn't hold enough for the long trip to the food court.
I remember them being $7.00 back then and I think it was in the 1980's when we bought them.

Ah memories!

In answer to the age old question:

do we have the pleasure of buying a mig at sasatoga speings thanks

At BB you buy a day sticker (Monday, Tuesday, etc) and attach it to your mug. These are currently 'good for life', last years Wednesday sticker still works, and they work at both TL and BB.

Anyhoo, you scan your barcode day sticker at a refill station, and if it is the right day, a green light comes on, and the soda will flow for about a minute. Msny bad people (a.k.a. users of another Disney Board) wil 'trip ' the soda station with their sticker and then fill any container that holds liquids. Also many kids will hang around the station, and fill their cups after a stickered mug is filled and the owner walks away,

I hope this answers your Mig questions at TL, BB and sasatoga speings !
