Slow, slow, slow...error. I'm having serious performance problems with your site today, Tagrel. I've gotten a screen about database errors a few times and it took about 3 minutes on my slick cable modem to get the site up the first time. I can't wait that long! Any suggestions? Anyone else having problems?

The server is having problems lately - its not really related to the site itself. When the server is slow, you will see the 'Database connection' error.
Not sure if it is Hurricane or Virus related, but they seem to be having lots of trouble this month.
Hoping they get it squared away soon.

Got more info on the current server problems...
They have been having problems with both Virus' and spammers lately.
The night I upgraded (thank goodness I finished quickly!) the spammers used a script to generate 25000 emails  which ended up crashing the system. They were using a loophole in the server script handlers.
This site uses the same script mechanism to provide the forums, chat area and sendcard features.
Yesterday, they had to implement changes that make sure that spammers could never pull that stunt again. Those same changes 'broke' my scripts until some more maintenance could be completed. The Server support team completed that maintenance last night and by midnight all my script areas were working again. I'm quite impressed with how they jumped right on the problem as soon as I entered a Trouble Ticket.
Anyway, all is right with the world again, and hopefully the server will not be quite so bogged down anymore. Slowdowns will occur, but its good to know they are trying to stay on top of them.
I'll try not to take offense that you assumed it was all my new software's fault! Have to admit - the idea did cross my mind as well!

Sigh, why do spammers bother with things like that? I'm certainly glad to hear everything is back in order now! Today my performance problems are due to a cause here at home: one of my darling cats decided to get some attention last night by bumping the cable modem and things haven't been quite the same since. (insert rolled eyes smiley here, I can't get them to come up).
And to me "your site" includes all the layers beneath it--I don't have any other view into it than your forums but that doesn't mean I thought it was anything you wrote! Not at all!
Cross your fingers, I am going to hit submit...

LOL, thats OK. I wrote very little myself anyway. I just had to pull together the pieces and configure them. Some bugs I can fix easily, and other problems are embedded in the code I may or may not have access to.
I do what I can to make it as usable as possible, but its hard some times. I have a HUGE laundry list of things I still need to customize for this site, but digging in and changing the code has both its inherent dangers and takes WAY too much time! ;) The list will be chipped away at slowly... :)
Sorry your Cable Modem is not playing well today. Not sure why your smilies aren't displaying... Do you have Popups disabled?

No, popups were fine...things were just so slow with the cat problem. We finally did a hard restart of the modem and things are looking better now!
:bounce:
You do a great job! Really! We appreciate it sooo much.
