View Full Version : HHEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a question for all of you computer savy people(I'm not one of those) this morning I went to turn on my laptop and it says it could not start becasue windows was either missing or corrupt  It also said to put in the set up CD and press R on the first screen for recovery. Well that would be great IF I had a set up CD  So now what do I do? I have a recovery CD-rom but it will wipe out my hard drive! Any suggestions or should I go take it right to the geek squad? Luckily we have our old dinosaur desk top that the kids use so I'm NOT completely without
BTW we ran spy sweeper last night and it came up clear no viruses that would have caused it to shut down!

Can you call your computer support desk? My son had another problem on his laptop last week & Dell was able to help us over the phone. I have taken it to The Geek Squad & while they do good work they cost money while Dell was free.

Sorry I can't help you on this one, Sue. I would call your local support/store and see what they say.
Well after talking to Toshiba tech support we finally decided that the best course of action was to use the recovery CD. It wiped out my hard drive but it gave me a fresh start. I am in the process of installing everything back to where it was! When I talked to Joe he said that there WERE 2 viruses on my latop when he swept last night and he got rid of them but at the same time appartenly he got rid of windows! IF I had a windows set up CD I wouldn't have lost my hard drive, but since i don't have one  I think I'll go out soon and buy a Windows XP just in case this happens again!

And a really good real-time virus scanning program! I suggest MacAffee.
Dennis, I can't believe you said that! You are a Bad Boy!

Sue,
I hope you didn't lose many older pictures. Do you by any chance have a cd burner on either of those computers?
I put all my pictures on a CD and then have an excellent archive of them.
