I just read that John Ritter passed away suddenly last night and Johnny Cash as well. I am in such a state of shock about John Ritter. I am not surprised by Johnny Cash, I know that he has been a very sick man, but John Ritter is such a young man. I feel so terrible for his wife and family. We have all lost a woderful actor who made me smile many nights.

good morning, Susan --

I was sorry to read this news, too. John Ritter also made me smile. He had wonderful timing and a great smile. Of his performances, my favorite was his role in "Sling Blade." He was quietly believable. In interviews, he seemed like a decent guy, too, grateful for his opportunities.

My main thought about Johnny Cash is simply that he was the real deal, one of the last authentic country music singers/songwriters in a business overrun with synthetic glam. He endured through personal challenges and losses that would have done in many others, and his music reflected both his tough experiences and his determination. He was amazing.

John Ritter has been making me laugh since the Threes Company days. Jack Tripper was definitely his breakout role, and suited his comedic talents to a T, but I also loved him in just about every movie or TV appearance he did. His performance a few years ago as a demented robot in an ep of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was great. And I started watching 8 Simple Rules just a couple of months ago and thought it was some of the best work he's ever done. I was really starting to enjoy the show a lot.
