Hi Everyone! For some reason I never noticed this "hobby" forum! :D
Oh,Well,anyway-I'm planning on creating two Disney scrapbooks for my 2 daughters(I'll put them together AFTER our trip in May,obviously!),but a couple months back I started collecting some Disney scrapbooking materials-I can't believe how much is out there!!! It's so cool!!! :D
I've stopped collecting stuff for now,'cause I already filled up a small box of materials & it was starting to "irritate" me that I couldn't start my projects!!!
One is a "Disney Princess" scrapbook & the other is a "mickey" scrapbook-REAL nice! I can't wait!
Has anyone here been to Mousememories.com? What a great site!!!
Well, just thought I'd share!
My 11 yr. old daughter's favorite character is Donald Duck & my 7 yr. old daughter's favorite is "Princess Jasmine",Daisy Duck, & Minnie Mouse.
Any unique ideas for these scrapbooks for me? Thank you in advance!!!

I decided to make several Disney Albums. One for each child that will start with our trip to Disney Land a few years ago and them more on the WDW from our last trip and continue that way. Of course, each will fill an album before we finish making trips!

The other one I'm doing is a family one, but mostly for my husband and I. It will start with my trip to WDW the first year it opened (i know, I'm aging myself... ) and then have my trips as a kid and his all chronologically and then our trips with the kids. Again, it will probably fill more than one actual album.

Now, if I can only find the time to get started on them!!!

I think that's a really cute idea,Linda S!!!! The one about you & your husband's trips as kids! How Sweet-I'm sure YOUR kids will treasure that book!
And yes,I too am afraid that I won't be able to find time to put the books together when the time comes-but I'm hoping for an adrenaline rush when I get the photos back!!! Plus, because my trip is in May-I should have the easy routine of the summer to "help" me out!!!!!
I get a little exhausted just thinking about it! But excited at the same time. I think once I get the photos picked out & the materials in front of me-it will all just start flowing naturally!
Do you already have scrapbooks purchased for YOUR endeavors?
I'll tell ya-these "Disney" ones are really impressive(expensive, but impressive!).
I really want these books to turn out SPECIAL! :minnie:

Yes I have my stuff purchased. I bought a few of the Creative Memories Disney Combination Packs and Snap Packs and I have some Disney paper that I got. So now it's just finding the time. I did make one for a Christmas present for friends of ours that went with us last time (they didn't take many pictures and don't have kids). When I have a deadline i find the time. My problem is that I need to keep the stuff out and then I get lots done as I can sit down and do a page if I have a few minutes before work or bed. But, to have to get everything out and know that I have to pack it up again, means I need at least an hour to get anything done. If I could have a spot where it is always out I'd be doing great!

Good luck!

Minderella,
You can start making pages now, if you like. Plan your page, and execute it, leaving space for one or two of the size photo you normally take. You can put the photo mats, if you plan to use them, and journalling blocks down as place holders - Then you'll only need to add your pictures and journal on the space you left for them.

If you left space for two pictures and only have one, you can fill the other space with a postcard, or a rectangle of cardstock with more journalling on it.

Disney albums are easy to do this way because people tend to chose their page colors and embellishments more from the charactor or activity on the page rather than what their kids are wearing.

If you need ideas, there are lots of great disney pages on http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=cat_display&gallery=1&category_id=118

Thanks for the idea,Ursalinda!
Here's a question for you-do you really suggest only one to two photos per page? This scrapbooking thing is so new to me-is that how you do yours, or out of experience, does it look better w/only 1 or 2 photos???

Good question Minderella, I was wondering the same thing. I usually try to put 3 to 4 pictures on each page with an occasional page with 1 picture.

Here's another question for you all. When looking at the book, you ahve two pages...the back of one and the front of another...do you always try to match the two with the same subject? Or do you put two completely different looking pages together? And what do you do if you only have 3 pictures that go together, do you put those three on 1 page and something else on another? Sorry, I hope this ios not to confusing. I'm ahving a hard time putting into words what I mean. :?

Hi,Sheryl!
Well, about your question, I would put two different "subjects" on each side-I'm having a hard time articulating this also!
ok,when you look at the book, there's one page & then directly opposite is another page-I would put the SAME subject on those two pages,do you know what I mean? Then, flip over the page,& you can start another two pages with the same or different subjects-as long as you have the two "facing" pages the same subject.
If anyone else would like to put their "2 cents" in,please do. But that's just what I would do.

Yes Minderella, I also do the same thing, but when you have say 3 odd pictures that go together and then maybe another 3 that go together, do you try to match the pages? For instance, I have 3 pictures of Teppanyaki and 3 pictures from LeCellier, so I did not want to use two whole pages for only 3 pictures, I put the 3 Teppanyaki on the left and the 3 from LeCellier on the right and did both pages in red so they blend and match. I was just curious if this is what others do. LOL

What made me wonder is when you see already made up pages but it is for only 1 page. I always wonder what people do on the other side. Do they put something totally different (color, theme etc) or do they try to make them blend.

I see what you mean,Sheryl.

I think what YOU are doing is fine.

Sounds like you are "blending" them perfectly!
Scrapbooks are supposed to reflect your style, your likes and dislikes, etc. If it looks great to you, then what else matters?
I remember having scrapbooks in High School when Scrapbooking wasn't so "popular"(?),and I got creative with it as only a teenager could! Markers! That's all I used-no fancy papers or tags, maybe a few stickers here & there, but that's it. And it STILL brings a smile to my face when I go through it!(It doesn't even have any "blending" in it-it goes from one suject to another like a ping-pong ball! I have my 8th gr. diploma in there, sweet sixteen cards, plus old photos of my Grandparents wedding-just mish-mashed in there!!!)
People are going to love reminiscing through your book(I don't think anyone but you will notice the "blending" is "off"!!!)

I try to keep one "topic" per page or per 2-page spread if posswible. But, there are times when I have only one picture of something and it HAS to be included. So, I usually seperate it somehow on the page with a boarder or something.

I also very rarely put less than 4 pictures on a page (I almost excluseively use 12x12 albums). My feeling is that I want to find the balance between too busy with too many pictures and too busy with papers and other stuff. Of course, if it is a big picture or really special I'll do something. Or if I have totally messed up one side of a page and I need to cover it all with paper sometimes I will make it into a really big matte for one picture. I was just looking through some books I did a few years ago and I have notices my style has really changed.

I have never tried to make my pages first, although I know a bunch of people who do. I am not creative enough, plus, I wouldn't necessarily know the order of the pages ahead of time. I crop to the picture. Which means that I crop all my pictures first. THEN I'll group them by subject/date, or whatever and then figure out my page content and THEN lay out the pages with my boarders, mattes, etc., add journeling then stickers. It works well for me because I'm a sprawler when I scrap so I can just grab a stack of pictures and my various cutting/cropping supplies and sit by the TV and scrap without getting the rest of my stuff out. Of course that doesn't help you being anxious about wanting to get started before you have the pictures does it? :D

What's neat is that while you are taking pictures you will be thinking of the page and layout and you'll keep your eye open for the really neat scrap book picture.

You could also start by taking a few pictures of a countdown calendar and the kids marking it, or other preprations you are doing before the trip. Then you'd have something to start with.

Have fun

Linda

Yes,Linda,exactly!
I planned on starting out by taking photos of my girls waking up that morning that we leave!!!And then of course, all packed up & standing on the porch steps, & on the plane before take-off,etc. I also heard that I should take photos of the "signs" of places, likes restaurants that we eat at,etc.
My head is spinnin' with ideas!!!

Minderella-- I totally agree that everyone's scrapbook should reflect their personal interests and preferences. I also have a scrapbook from my high school days. I used Elmers glue, construction paper, Hallmark stickers, and markers for my embellishments. While not acid/lignon free in any sense, the book has survived well over 20 years and is so much fun to look at even though it doesn't have the high tech stuff that I use in my books now.

I've thought about redoing the book and using only photo safe materials, but it would take away from the personality of the book that I made when I was 18 years old if I did that. So, the pictures may fade someday (although they haven't yet), but I'm keeping it intact.

WoW-TrixyA-I agree with you also!!!

I used construction paper in MY high school(age) yearbook, too! And the markers,of course,& scotch tape!!!! But you are right,it is still SO COOL! I wouldn't change it!
Everything isn't even it page proectors! And it's still fine looking;nothing fell apart or even yellowed.
I have concert ticket stubs,& my college acceptance letters, pictures of rock stars that I liked cut out of magazines!
When I showed my sisters, they were in awe!

I never created any more scrapbooks after that one-but it's become SSSOOOO popular now-I'm on a mission now!
(It's really too bad scrapbook materials are so darn expensive these days, huh? :( )

Minderella-- One way to help defray the costs of some of the more expensive equipment is to join a cropping group. I am a member of a group that meets twice monthly in Auburn, MA, and everyone is great about sharing Sizzix, punches, templates, cutting tools, etc. We also have way more fun than should be legal.

PM me if you would like information on this group. I met them through a lady that lives in Boston.

My country is just starting with the scrapbook thing. There's just one store that sales acid free products, so I decided to do my album with the things that I like, even if they aren't acid free.

For now I have 60 punches, 30 paper edgers and Disney scrapbook kits that I bought in our last trip to WDW.The only acid free thing that I use are my glue stick and the page protectors.

I'm doing our Disney album in a three ring album, because I'm doing one page with my DD photos (for her), one page with my DS photos (for him) and one page for us (DH and I) with the family pictures. Our last trip to WDW was the first to Disney from the kids.

This is my first album and I really hope finish it BEFORE our second trip! :?

I just wanted to let you know how I live with my scrapmania!! :D

Funny how things work out Mrs. Bear. I was going through some old photos of my own the other day and found a bunch from a trip I took in high school to Mexico City. I see from your profile it's home to you, but you have some amazing sites to take pictures of for future scrapbooks (if you haven't already) What an amazing city! So much history.

To help out in your search for things to include in your scrapping, you might try places that sell sewing notions, or knitting/crocheting supplies. Fibers and beads can work for you as well.

Thanks Fantayzya!! :D My country it's sooo beautiful and I feel so proud to be "chilanga" (who's from México city). It's so sad too, that many mexicans don't feel in the same way as I am.

I just started with the fibers and eyelets and thats a good tip for start.

You have to visit my country again and I will be more than happy if you let me show you how beautiful it is!

If you haven't already scrap your photos from México, I can send you post cards, maps or "things" for your scrapbook. That will be a pleasure for me! :D

We were only there for 6 days but we sure seemed to keep busy. Aside from the parades and concerts we gave and spending nearly an entire day at a local school (I was there for a band festival) as well as attending church services on Sunday. (This was very cool for me as we happened to attend the church who's pastor was a missionary supported by the church I attended back home) This was in Oaxaca.

We saw some amazing sights. Chapultapec Castle, Garibaldi Plaza (note to self: don't let the music make your feet move or you'll immediately attract an audience lol) Teotihuacán Pyramids (now that's a view!-from the top I mean lol)The Zocalo, (is that the place that would have sites representing 3 historical cultures or is that some place different?-if it's different, we went there as well) The Palace of Fine Arts for Ballet Folklorico, The Shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe', and of course shopping shopping shopping! That was too much fun! We stayed at a place called Hotel Continental which I believe was destroyed in an earthquake. It was a beautiful hotel. Right on Paseo Reforma as I recall. The officials who were responsible for the competition and our accomodations were great and the people of the city some of the warmest, friendliest people I've met anywhere, ever. We were a bunch of teen-aged kids from the U.S who didn't speak your language and I'm sure at times did things, however unintentionally, that may have been contrary to your culture and we were treated very very kindly and very very well.

As I said we were there by invitation from your government for a band competition. What is amusing about that is that we went all the way to Mexico City and the band we competed against was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was an amazing experience and believe me, should the opportunity present itself to return I will definately do so.

Minderella, That's a great question about number of pictures on a page. And you certainly got a variety of responses. This is hard to describe but - I let the pictures tell me. I use 12 X 12 pages. If I have a GREAT picture Then I print it 5X7 and make it the only picture on the page. On the other hand, if I have a lot of ok pictures and the main subject is pretty small because of distance, like animal and bird pictures from AK, I may crop them tight or even use a square punch to center in on the subject and put a dozen or more on a page! It depends. (I WISH I could figure out how to post pictures)

On the topic of equipment. I most often use cutter bee straight scissors, a fiskars 12 inch paper trimmer, deckel edge scissors, hermafix both permenant and repositionable, Creative memories circle and oval cutters, circle oval and square punches, and a variety of pens. These probably are sufficient for more than 90% of my pages.

My husband has gotten me eyelet stuff and fibers and other for christmas gifts, but I very rarely use them. I have quite a few other punches for specific purposes, but again rarely use them. I've gotten rid of most of my cheap fancy scissors, and the other cutters I tried because I never used them! Also mostly don't use my lettering templates, border templates, or layout templates. If I had it to do over again, there's a lot of "stuff" I wouldn't have bought!

TrixyA

Ursulinda-- I think every scrapper has a box of unused equipment that seemed incredibly important at the time of purchase, but just never gets used. I went to a crop last year where everyone brought their unused equipment and marked it with the approximate retail value. Then, we all traded stuff, trying to keep trades roughly equivalent value. It was cool. I came away with a bunch of stuff I'd been wanting and got rid of several items (fancy edging scissors, which I hate!) that I knew I would never, ever, ever use.
