From MagicalMountain.net. Sure hope this one is true as I would love to have one of these. Seems like our WillCAD suggested something like this months ago if I remember correctly.

New Walt Disney World Shopping & Dining Gift Cards are scheduled to debut in August.
Guests will be able to purchase and use the cards at select merchandise and select food-and-beverage locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, determining their card value upon purchase (from $5-$1,500), and enjoying the option of adding additional dollar amounts to the card later.

Thanks Margaret! That will be a very nice way to give something special to friends and family. :)

Great idea, and now since they take Disney Rewards in so many places, I would hope the list of places taking the gift cards would be the same! Very nice option!

They're scheduled to debut, but where? Can we get them at the Disney Store (I'm thinking that I doubt that one) or order them by telephone from WDW?

I did suggest it, but people have been clamoring for something like this for years.

I have heard no details on them yet, but I would guess that we can probably buy them online or by phone when they debut.

The thing that concerns me about these is if they have an automatic deducting thing on them. Lots of stores do that, if you don't use the card for so long it starts deducting from it a monthly fee or something like that. So if you don't use it up, you can actually lose the rest of the money on it. CT created a law a few years ago that they can't do that, but not all states have that law.

I just did a search and found info from June 24, 2005 - FL doesn't have any law according to Consumer's Union. CA has somewhat of a law.

Thanks Rosebud for the reminder. I have had gift cards that started taking money away!

I did a search on Disney.com but didn't find anything listed for this yet. Apparently, Disneyland has had them for a few years. Be careful you don't confuse a park's gift card with the ones for DirectDisney/DisneyStore which are not good in the parks. (With the selling of the Disney Stores, I'm surprised WoD isn't mentioned.)

This is what the Disneyland ones look like: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/reserve/specialOffers/detail?name=MerchCardSpecialOfferPage

No mention of expirations, except for the ones for DisneyDirect. Those are stated to never expire.

I hope these don't take the place of Disney Dollars!! I do love "currency with character"

I would think they make too much off of the Disney Dollars from the true collectors like WillCad, or the not planned collectors that just forget to spend them while there. You never know, sometimes they do dumb things.

I just saw this post and these cards are ALL over WDW. They are at every cash register in the parks as well as DD. They are blue background with Mickey Mouse grinning. Very cute. They never expire and you can add to the value of them at will.

Linda does it list where you can use them? The original post said "select" food & merchandise locations.

As far as I know, these cards are accepted just like a credit card would be. I am going back up this week end and I will grab one and find out all the exact terms for you. (I just skimmed it last week as I had no reason to buy one for myself) I tend to buy gift cards at Target or Penneys for Christmas gifts, then I will find something else, shove the cards in an old purse or pocket and forget all about them. Then when I do find them I get aggravated that I bought the gift card to begin with!
(I just found one for Olive GArden that I bought at least 4 Christmases ago) I hope it will still work.

LindaC :sun: I know the gift cards from WDW will have no expiration date on them as Disney wants you to be able to use it even if you don't visit every year.

Has anybody been to the Disney Store lately? Do you know if they have them? I'm not much of a mall person, so I rarely go to the Disney store. I was actually there last week though, but didn't get a chance to stop in and see.

We have a tiny Disney store at a mall in MD about 30 minutes from here. If we get a chance to get there I'll check Rosebud.

Sounds like a great idea as I don't always have the money at the time I"m going to DW but may have it before hand to put on the card. Anyone finding out info please keep us posted. This would help us alot for our next trip.
