I just got back from my nephew's 10th birthday cruise and we were incredibly lucky to be the first guest audience for the PremEAR of DCL's new theatre show The Golden Mickeys on Thursday night. All I can say is "WOW O WOW O WOW O WOW"!!!!!! This show is incredible. For any past DCL cruisers who didn't think anything could top Disney Dreams - just wait until you see The Golden Mickeys.
I don't want to give too much away, but the basic premise of the show is an awards show for Disney films. The show features old favorites and new friends, including Snow White, Quasimodo, Tarzan (love that costume! :angleCute: ), Mulan and many many others. There were also some special guest stars playing the roles of the 7 Dwarves. (hint to parents of kids in the Oceaneers Club - sign your kids in early!) The "host" of the show is Ensign Benson who starts as a bumbling fill-in for the captain but undergoes her own changes as the show progresses.
The Walt Disney theatre has been retrofitted with large retractable video screens on either side of the stage (at least I don't remember seeing them before) and these play a major part in the show. The show features lives performance intermixed with special video "guest appearances" of some wonderful faces and voices. The screens are also used at the other shows to provide a preview of the activities happening later in the cruise.
The only bad thing about this show is that when its over you want more! Unfortunately, they can only do so much in one hour. IMO this show is as good as, if not better, than Disney Dreams. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes Disney's 2nd award winning cruise show. It is THAT GOOD. And to be at the PremEAR was amazing. The excitement was palpable as we got to the terminal with everyone wearing buttons proclaiming the big event. When we got on the ship everyone reminded us not to miss the PremEAR. I took some pictures (with my flash turned off as they request no flash photography and no external video lights) and hopefully a few will come out well enough to post.
More on the cruise later, but this was something that couldn't wait.
