As was pointed out in the Soaring thread, it looks like Food Rocks will be closed down to make way for building the new Soaring attraction at the Land Pavillion. :(

This is my daughters FAVORITE attraction in EPCOT. I don't have the heart to tell them. Rumors say that it will shutdown sometime in August.

The CM who was telling me about it said that Food Rocks has had less than 1000 visitors/day for a very long time now. I know that the last time I was in the place was virtually empty. But I agree that its a great show. I wonder if they'll incorporate some of the figures into a new attraction, as so often seems to happen...

Even more worrisome--the CM suggested that they probably won't have two fastpass attractions right next to each other so Living With The Land would probably loose its fastpass status. I looked at him sideways and said, "You're NOT telling me that they're going to mess with that ride, are you?" He hemmed and hawed, and said that it really didn't get much traffic and was a little too educational to attract the big crowds. As if he had anything to do with decision making--I stomped my foot a little bit and pointed out that Walt's whole vision was "edutainment," long before anyone else coined the term. The CM agreed, but did predict that, these days, numbers count and Living With the Land was going to need some bigger numbers to be safe.

On the other hand, he may have just been spouting personal opinion. I can think of plenty of places where two fast-pass rides are right next to each other. What about Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain?

I love Food Rocks I have always thought it was a Hidden Gem. I really would not mind them gettig rid of Fast Pass for the Land ride. It seems much harder to get on this one since they put Fast Pass in place.

*sigh* I loved the Kitchen Kabaret when I was little, and loved Food Rocks when it changed. It has always been a "must do" on our Disney trips. I'm glad we saw it during our June trip. It's just one more attraction to add to the vaults of favorite rides that are no more.

I'm sure the new attraction going in, though, will be great.
