Disney, Six Flags Great Adventure Rumor

There was an interesting blurb on New 12 New Jersey one of our local cable stations up our way. Disney was looking at Six Flags Great Adventure (their New Jersey parks that has a thrill & water park and Wild Safari drive thru). Six Flags is rumored to want to sell it's parks. God knows if anything will come of this but it's fun to think about it.

Interesting, especially since Six Flags just bought a park last year in New Orleans, and dumped 5 million into it...... but who knows.....

I am not sure how I feel about this one. Six Flags seems so...Not Disney...at least the one in my hometown.

gosh I went to Great Adventure in NJ for the first time about
23 years ago lol - wow wonder if some of the rides are still there ROFL

if Disney bought the park - wouldn't they make it more Disneyfied?

This is just a thought? Back in the 1990's the Seattle Center had similar rumers going around about their little amusement attraction. Then it turned out that they hired Disney to help them learn to do things better such as queing and other things to attract people but make it work in their limited space. Could it be that Six Flags is using Disney ideas?

I saw this rumor on a DIS shareholder discussion board. There was a lot of interest, but personally I don't think it would NOT be a good thing. You know, too much of a good thing.....et al. I feel it would brand dilution all over. I think that is what happened to The Disney Stores...just plain toooooo many!

I totally agree with you, smallworld! Disney's strength is in being the destination which is more special than everyone else's.

The smaller amusement parks all over that are owned by 6 Flags would cost megabucks to be brought up to even a fraction of the quality we're used to with Disney. Plus then they'd draw even more guests away from the main parks.

I find it hard to believe that the Disney folks wouldn't understand this. It's an interesting rumor but I hope it is just a rumor.
