I just got off the phone with Delta as we are flying with them this week. I was told that there will be no movies on either of our two 4-1/2 hour flights!
What's up with that! You can't even pay the $5 to watch one?
I noticed with Alaska, they only offered a limited amount of dvd players for people to rent for $10 for the flight.
Are all the airlines doind this now?

We had 3 2 plus hour flights for spring break and had no movie on any of them- didn't bother me - I bring a book to read!

They must have just changed it Suzy because there were movies on both of our flights to and from Vegas. The outbound was good, National Treasure but the inbound was terrible, Lemony Snickett. Matt & I ended up watching Oceans 11 on his laptop. If you do this make sure you have an extra battery.

Never had a movie on Northwest from Detroit to Orlando, and in Nov never had a movie on Spirit Detroit to Vegas-almost 5 hrs going and almost 4 coming back. They don't even serve food anymore!!! They should at least allow an extra carryon for the kitchen!
MJ, you don't like Lemony Snickett???
Guess you had to be there- although my daughter's favorite author,... she complained that the movie was confusing since it combined several of the books & changed many parts.

P.S....
National Treasure was AWESOME!!!

Wow, on Song (which is Delta) our flight from Hartford 2.5 hours they have a movie. Not only do they have movies, but they have TV and trivia that you play against other people on the flight. TV is free, Trivia is Free, Movies $5. Because the flight is so quick, they make you pick your movies real fast though.
I love Song - same price as SW, but I get the above, plus an assigned seat! Wish I could have gotten them both ways for my upcoming trip.

My last 2 trips on song, one had the movies etc and one did not so it depends on the plane. When I went to Vegas I went on Northwest and they said that they only do movies on over seas flights, but that was several years ago. I am flying Southwest in May and I have had good luck with them, I agree with Bookwood, just bring a book.

That is why we take our Laptop fully charged with a DVD! We have a three way splitter for the headphone and three headphones. So much faster for the flight.

They do rent Dvd Players and Movies at many major airports and then you just drop it off at your destination. They even have something in place in case you go somewhere with no drop off. I think we paid about $10 for the player and maybe $5 per movie when we did that. We now use a Lap top too.

I wondered how they did the DVD player rentals, when I don't see a booth at my destination.
I put a movie in my DVD drive for the flight to MF, but ended up not watching. When I went back in January, I discovered I'd left a software CD in there instead.
United usually provides a free movie, and if you fly during mealtime, they give you food. On AmericaWest they charged for the movie and you could buy food for $5. It wasn't bad, but you 'only' got a sandwich. No side, no dessert.
Often I find myself watching half the movie without sound. I can't see spending $5 to watch a movie on a 13" TV a few rows away. The best was when I flew to the UK on United and they had the 777's. They had the little screens in the back of the seat and everytime I woke up I'd watch something for a little while then doze back off.

I would fly blind-folded if I was flying to Walt Disney World!

You only pay to watch the movies, the TV and Trivia is free. They also have a channel that shows the flight info so at any time you can see where you are, altitude - all that kind of stuff. Jet Blue has the same set up I think.

Geez, if Song flew from BWI I'd try them just for the screens on the backs of the seats!
I almost always fly Southwest, the ultimate cheapo airline. No movie, no food (they do give out peanuts, whoopee), and they are getting a little crazy with the pre-boarders, but for the price and the fact that they don't charge you a $50 or $75 fee to change your flight, I'm happy with them.

I think it really makes a difference on the longer flights.
Figure on a 2 1/2 hour flight, with take off and landing, there really isn't much time to show a movie, but those flights over 4 hours can feel really long.
I found myself on my last flight being annoyed when they asked those who didn't want to pay for a movie to close their window shades. I got a window seat so I could look out the window. Didn't matter too much those, as I was dozing for much of the flight. I just opened it a bit now and then to peek out.

Close your window shade? Did they give a reason?

To darken the plane to make it easier for those who paid to see the movie to see the screen.
BTW, I notice on United the headphones have the same type connector as the average Walkman, so you can use your own. I'm not sure about the airlines that charge, though I have been tempted to find out.

We always use our our headphones on Delta. The only problem is the Delta jets we have flown on have 2 prongs & our headphones 1 so you only get sound in one ear.
