Greetings Taginators!
On this last trip to WDW in January, I got lucky to be part of a new lunch called Lunch with a Disney Artist. If I post my trip report here, you can read about it there. It is a cool experience being able to interact with Disney Animators in a sitdown lunch setting. Part of the experience is gourmet fare from the Hollywood Brown Derby.
To my delight, the head chef there is one I met some years back when he was briefly head chef at Mama Melrose's. He came out during the lunch and I got to compliment him once again on his delightful culinary creations. Here's where he gave me a little scoop. He seemed to wince a bit when I asked him if I could post these on the internet. :D I guess that meant, please don't. However, I am quite sure that Taginators will never reveal this to hordes of other people, so I'll tell just y'all.
The Brown Derby and the Disney Studios want to expand into more lunches of the same type as Lunch with a Disney Artist. A new room is being rehabbed for this small group lunch experience. The last I heard was that this lunch was available through February, but if any of you are interested, see if it is still offered. During its trial run, you could book it three days a week, Monday thru Wednesday. Only one seating per day was available, with the ability to have as many as 9 present in your party. Quite a rare event, with only 12 lunches a month to be had.
If the Brown Derby is to add more of this kind of one on one experience with staff, animators, production folks, it will probably remain as limited as Lunch with a Disney Artist was. If budget approvals go through, that's not all that will be added to the Brown Derby. Plans are in the works(pending approval) to expand the kitchen to include a chef's table, a pastry oven and show kitchen type seating. Again, all those opportunities will be hard to get reservations.
