SATURDAY: July 26
Your Characters: John, 42. DVC owner. Trip 20-something. Old Widowed
man and father of John the Smaller. Smaller, 9. (10 in September).
This is trip 18. Equally as capable as dad at making trip plans for
you.
The Weather: Well, we're still in Houston, so can you say, "Partly
Cloudy and hot with 100% humidity and afternoon thunder Showers?"
Pet Peeve of the Day: Kids being rude to adults. And No, I don't mean
mine.
Today was departure day. Alot to get done. Got up early and took
Maggie, our fuzzy four-legged child to the doggy hotel. She was
obviously excited to be there. I guess for a dog it doesn't get too
much better than a week away with new butts to smell everyday. Kind
of like Disney for dogs. We then had breakfast and did some last
minute shopping at Walmart. Once home I finished the laundry, and
started putting things in the luggage. We left the house at 4:15, and
were checked in and munching by 5:00. Going through security was a
bit of a hassle. I took everything off I could think of, and still
set the alarm off. So, off to the side to be poked and prodded, shoes
off, shoes x-rayed, etc. Got through security in about 15 minutes.
Glad we were early. We are flying Southwest this trip, and they are
issuing boarding passes at check-in now, so I didn't have to worry
about that aspect. Flight was great, brief stop in New Orleans, into
Orlando at 11:15.
Now my brief fiasco begins. As is my custom, I go to get Rent Car
before going to Baggage claim. Long story short, it is easier than
lugging everything with me, cuz smaller can't hang out by himself
waiting for me. I normally book with National using the Emerald
Aisle. This time I was hardpressed for a bargain, so I used a code
from Mousesavers for Dollar. I got a compact for $169 for the week.
I am used to that for a full-size, but I tried to no avail. I signed
up for the Fastland program online. Let's see...The man in Fastlane
is busy discussing why he cannot rent without insurance. Fastlane not
fast. Finally get car and head to baggage claim. Luggage is being
lugged to the unclaimed office. Harumph. Get to car. Blue Dodge
Neon, and HORRORS...There are handles for rolling down the
windows...What the??
We arrived at our overnight stop, Hyatt on 192 ($37 on Priceline.),
checked in and were off to bed by 1:00. The room was way substandard
for a 3-Star, but hey, ya get what ja pay for. Besides, we were
checking at at 7:00AM. Sweet Dreams cuz I am checking into Old Key
West in the AM.
So ends our Journey into Orlando. I shall continue with Day 1, Pal
Mickey Joins our Party and he won't Shut Up!!
