All the fun buzz about "Pirates of the Caribbean" has me wondering about other pirate-themed movies or books. I liked "Treasure Island," both the book and the Disney live-action movie based on it.
Do you have any pirate videos or books to recommend? Thanks in advance,
Sandi

Welcome back, fantayzya! 8)
Hi Sandi : ) Thanks for this post - it made me think about pirate movies and research some out - going to rent a few and introduce Scamp to some old movies - which some are classics - he loves the old movies anyway - whew - this will be a great family treat : )
BLACKBEARD'S GHOST
1968 ~ Peter Ustinov, Dean Jones, Elsa Lancaster - Fun Disney film with Peter Ustinov as the infamous Blackbeard.
THE BUCCANEER
1938 ~ Frederic March - About Jean Lafitte and the Battle of New Orleans.
CAPTAIN BLOOD
1935 ~ Errol Flynn - A must see classic pirate epic with Flynn starring in his first swashbuckler. Based on Sabatini's novel of the same name. Dr. Peter Blood is a british physician unjustly sentenced to slavery for aiding a wounded rebel. Bought by the niece of a brutal plantation owner, Blood eventually escapes by overtaking a ship. Once on board, Captain Blood embarks on a series of swashbuckling adventures.
THE CRIMSON PIRATE
1952 ~ Burt Lancaster, Nick Cravat - A well done funny spoof of pirate movies.
FIRE OVER ENGLAND
1937 ~ Laurence Olivier, Flora Robson - Spain and England fight it out on the high seas.
THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE
1983 ~ Kevin Kline, Angela Lansbury, Linda Ronstadt, Rex Smith - This movie is an fair adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic operetta of the same name
PIRATES OF TORTUGA
1961 ~ Ken Scott, John Richardson - This one is about Sir Henry Morgan's adventures. Hey, is this the guy the rum is named after : )
THE SEA HAWK
1940 ~ Errol Flynn - An exciting adventure drama about an english pirate, who upon learning that the Spanish plan to invade his native England with their armada, rushes back to save Queen and country. Great ship scenes.
TREASURE ISLAND
1934 ~ Wallace Beery, Jackie Cooper - First Film Adaptation Of Robert Lewis Stevenson'S Classic 1883 Novel.

OK I'm dating myself as a teen in the 80's but what about THE PIRATE MOVIE with Kristy MacNichol and Christopher Atkins. Kind of cheesy but still fun.
This one Lisa?
THE PIRATE MOVIE
1982 ~ Christopher Atkins, Kristy McNichol - A light-hearted musical comedy. If you are a fan of true Gilbert and Sullivan, then this movie is NOT for you.

Hey!
No one mentioned Hook with Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams!! That's a big favorite in our house.
When they still had the Villain's Dinner at GF, my youngest son asked Cpt. Hook to put me in the "Boo-Box" and giggled uncontrollably when Hook went along with him.
Did everyone already know that it was Glenn Close playing the male pirate who gets put in the Boo-Box, yelling, "No! No! Not the Boo Box!!"? :o

Glenn Close? I'll have to rent Hook and watch it again just for that!
You're Peter?
Yes, I'm Peter! Is there an echo in here?

I've just had an apostrophe!
I think you mean an 'epiphany' Smee.
Lightning has just struck my brain!
That must hurt.

Kill the lawyer!
I'm not that kind of lawyer!

After all, what would the world be like without Captain Hook?

Ha! Love the quotes, Will!
FYI, they also snuck in:
Phil Collins as the police inspector
David Crosby as one of the pirates (I can spot that big blonde mustache a mile away)
Gwynneth Paltrow as the young Wendy
Jimmy Buffet as "the shoe stealing pirate"
Carrie Fisher as the woman kissing on bridge
George Lucas as the man kissing on bridge
and Dustin Hoffman's son Jake in the Little League game.
Have fun watching it again!
Jimmy Buffet is a shoe stealing pirate
I'll have to watch this one again
Thanks for pointing these out

Thanks, everyone! What fun info. We're hoping to catch "Pirates" tomorrow and maybe we'll just turn this weekend into an all-pirates theme. Argh!
Here's a sign that I'm either getting old OR
I have cooking on my brain too much
the other day I was trying to convince Tramp and Scamp
to go see "Peppercorns of the Caribbean" ROFLWAFPU
it was a great movie - so much fun : ) I saw it alone while
they saw T-3 - they thought T-3 was a waste
