This is a mini, mini trip report for March 28 –30, 2003

Cast: Me: FlSharon 53.. Disney Fanatic for 3 yr
DH: 46 .. The reason that I am a Disney Fanatic

This weekend is typical of our short getaways to Disney. We always leave for home on Sunday with both of us needing a nap and fussing over who is going to drive home first. lol. Our history is that we are in at least two maybe three parks and one must always be MK. Our lodging is sometimes onsite, sometimes not. This trip, I’m reallllly excited b/c we’re staying at POR which even though it’s a moderate, it happens to be my favorite resort. I fell in love with the mansions and the surrounding manicured grounds at first site.

Day 1: Friday

Well, we completed our business on Friday and checked into POR around 3 pm, little later than I expected. I requested a ground level room and Heidi found us one which faced the courtyard in the Parterre Place. The room is delightful as always. This is the first time for us to stay in this particular area. It’s a bit of a walk to the food court and pool but we don’t mind since we love walking the grounds. While strolling around I noticed some stuffed Mickey’s and Minnie’s in a window facing the river. I started to think sometime we will have to stay in one of those rooms. It wasn’t that much for the upgrade with the ap rate, but it just didn’t cross my mind this time.

I could have spent the entire evening here but DH was getting restless. So after a walk around the resort, we drove to MGM. He needed an RnRC fix. But first we made a quick stop at the outlet mall to run into Character Warehouse. DH got a jacket and I got a 2003 marathon sweatshirt with hood and front pockets for 9.99. It’s a nice practical souvenir from volunteering this year. Then we headed back on track to MGM. We did our two favorites…Walts Story ( not the exact name but you get the idea) and RnRC. I never get used to that take off.. isn’t it 60 mph in 2.8 sec? After a little walk around the park, we headed back to POR. It was too late to have dinner in the park and we were getting hungry. Neither of us was in the mood for a full sit down dinner so we stopped into the food court for a quick bite. After having cheeseburgers which were surprisingly good, we hopped on the boat to DD. However, it was so crowded I couldn’t wait to get back on the boat. We actually just wanted the boat ride anyway. On the way back, we got off the boat at the FQ. We walked around a little and I spotted that the pool bar was still open. With a glass of wine in hand and the stars sparkling in the sky, we walked along the Sassagoula River and under the bridge back to POR. It was a perfect evening for the stroll to our room.
Before turning out the lights, I called for a 7 am wakeup. I never noticed it before, but I guess Mickey only calls to wake up guests in the Deluxe resorts. (we were at WL around Christmas but forgot to have a wakeup).

Day 2: Saturday

I know this is against the rule book… MK on a Sat … what are we thinking???? However, I wanted to see the little show which opens MK. Around 8:50am, instead of the mayor, a Mrs. Habersham (?), a resident from Main Street welcomed us along with the singers and dancers. Have you ever noticed that on the train station is says that the population of MK is 600,000,000? Soon the train arrived with Mickey and friends and of course the lucky family chosen to open the park. I tell you it was not bad at all this early. We saw a lot with no waits. With the frequency we get to the parks, I don’t do long lines. So after the show was over, we headed straight to Fantasyland. I’m on a FL streak right now. This is what all we were able to see this morning. We rode Pooh twice, once on Peter Pan, Dumbo, HH, & got a fast pass to jungle cruise. While waiting for our time for JC, we walked right into PoC. When leaving POC, Peter Pan was signing autographs. I listened to him for quite awhile. What a delightful guy who was so great with all the kids. He had something different to say to each child and did not rush them. It was almost time for our fast pass for JC, but first we got a FP for SM. The jungle cruise was fun.. actually heard some new jokes. After the JC, it was time for SM. By now it around noon and time to leave for the crowds are here. We headed down main street and caught the the singers & dancers performing again. But before we could leave I had a couple little things I wanted to check out. I went to the Center street to listen to the singing & dance lessons coming from the second story shops. I made a stop in the watch shop where I found the Disney version of the Nominations bracelets. These are the “build a bracelet’ and they had several different Mickeys and Minnies to choose. Oh, the last thing on my agenda was to stop in the Market to listen to the conversations on the old time phone. What fun it is to hear the mom talking about the high price of ham.. (9 cents a pound).. yelling at the others on her party line to hang up..LOL... We left MK around 1pm to head to POR for lunch and a quick swim. We always have to go down the slide and do a few laps at the quiet pool. Time then for a little nap before we head to Epcot.
We really didn’t have an agenda for the evening other than to see Illminations. DH wanted to check out TT. And luckily we were able to ride rather quickly using the single rider line. It’s been closed the last few times we’ve been here. I love the TT… zipping around that track so fast is just a blast. After TT we just headed towards the world showcase and soaked in the beauty of the evening. We found ourselves on the boat ride in Mexico while waiting on illuminations to begin. I keep thinking we need to have lunch or dinner here, but we never do. One day we will…. For the first time, Illuminations was a little disappointing. For some reason the globe didn’t turn and it didn’t have the same effect. However, the fireworks were still dynamite. By the time we got back to POR, we were both pooped.. time for bed.

Day 3: Sunday

Sunday am…After a walk around the entire resort, we had breakfast. I was surprised to see that they were making omelets in the food court. My ham and cheese omelet was perfect. All in all, the meals in the food court were pretty good. We kept intending to have a nice sit down dinner or lunch but neither of us wanted to take the time to do so. Anyhow after breakfast we had to pack up and check out. We were on our way to the antique boat show in Mt Dora. I really hated to leave… I told DH the next time, I’m going a day early so I can just lounge around for a day. This place is a little piece of heaven on earth.

Sharon, thank you for sharing your weekend trip with us! :D I so envy you guys being able to go and just relax and do the things you want to do. I'm trying to quit being so commando, but it's hard when you live so far away.

Can you give a little more information on the sounds you were listening for on Main Street? I'd love to share some of those hidden gems with my family in May. Where is the market with the phone, and the music lessons?

I'd also like to know more about the "nominations bracelet". Is that like a slide bracelet. It sounds cute, but I'm not sure I need to get into anything else that I have to collect. Are they expensive?

Thanks again for sharing! I felt like I was there with you. :D

Alicia, The sounds come from an upstairs window..(well that's what you're supposed to believe) that says "singing lessons" on one and another says .. " dance lessons) (i think it said dance..lol...) any how you can hear different sounds like its an actual studio.. it's back that short street off main st on the right side I think it's called Center St.
Then the phone is in a store on a corner .. also on the right side as you come down mainstreet towards the castle. Right above the door it said the Market. It's an old time store and the phone is on the right on the back wall.. if you don't see it, you can ask the cm. It's one of those old time phones that hang on the wall.. Just go lift the ear part and listen. It's really fun to listen to.. she tells the other people on the party line to hang up... asks her daughter (you) in the store the price of certain things ..
The bracelets...are the kind you can add links to.. i think there is several brands out there now..the ones around me are called Nominations.
they are also sold in Italy (where they originated) and in DD... these are the more costly ones...however ... in this store on Main street, there were two kinds available. Even the cm's were confused. I bought a whole basic braclet with one mickey on it for $8 and then i added my 3 initials and a mickey and a minnie for $3 each. (total with tax was 25) These were on a revolving rack towards the front. (you can add or take out these links yourself..it's quite easy) The expensive ones are in a case in the back of the store. The basic bracelet sold for $8 ... however it was just a section and you would have to add several to links to make it whole . these extras were different amounts. for ex the most expensive i asked about was the yin/yang mickey... it was @27.. i didn't get it...maybe next trip.. I asked another cm the dif between this inexpensive one and the higher ones.. they said workmanship.. soldering vs glue..etc.. however this is still in one piece. and looks just great. I will say there was lots more to chose from ...lots of neat mickeys.. I'm not sure why they had two kinds there.. maybe this one is intended for kids.. lol.. but it's just fine. Sorry if this is confusing... you can email me if you like... Sharon

Thank you, Sharon! I've written those tips down in my trip notes, and we'll be sure to look for them.

I'm psyched about finding those bracelets! They sound really neat, not too expensive, and like a perfect souvenier. Thanks for the info. :D

Sharon!!

Great Report - I have made note of the dance and singing lessons and the phone - see the little things you miss when you just walk by - shucks - I will most assuredly check those out next trip : )

When I was at PO - back ini the old days before it became POR - Mickey woke me up - maybe it has changed?

Thanks again for telling this old dog about new tricks at WDW : )
