Day 3 – My last day but I have all day!
Slept in a little today. Checked out of motel, grabbed a bite to eat at IHOP and then to CA to ride Soaring over California. Hit the gate at 10:05 am and walked to the attraction. This is a unique attraction and I really like it! Hard to explain without giving it away. You watch a large screen as you "Fly" It is gentle and unless you have a fear of heights, I would not hesitate to recommend it for everyone who meets the height requirement.
I decide to check out Bug's Life. Great 3 D movie. I would say the same as AK version. They added a little ride area out back. There were 4 rides each would appeal to young children or less adventurous children. There was also a cool play area. This looked like a good addition to CA.
I headed over to Hollywood area to play Millionaire, got a fast pass and went into Animation again. Played around and watched the clips they show. Then on to Millionaire. We got to watch someone make it to the 500,000 level and then miss on the Millionaire question. I was very impressed. There seemed to be a lot of locals who come on a daily basis to play as several people had to pass the chance to get into the hot seat.
Over to DL to finish up the day. I stopped first to see Moments with Mr. Lincoln. This has always been a favorite of mine from the time I was a young child. It has been redone with a great sound system. If you have done the Drew Carey sounds dangerously, then you know the sound system but unlike that waste of time attractions, this one engages you quickly. I would say this is a must do for everyone. The sound can be a little loud and there are sounds of shots being fired. In the waiting area, they have Walt's office and one of the CM gives a little tour of the area.
I went in got a fast pass for Indy and then I GOT A DOLE WHIP first time. It was good and had no hive causing foods in it. It is non-dairy so a great snack food for me. I watched the original Tiki Room. It is still my favorite. Wander over to PoC, another must do and in my opinion, the better of the two is at DL. Rode Indy again - Loved it. It was lunchtime and I went over to French Market Restaurant, this is cafeteria style and has good food at Disney prices. A little chicken, a nice salad, a mint Julep (love those) and have course some fritters filled me!
It is now the hottest part of the day and I have no motel room to go back to so the next best thing is the train. Rode it around 2 ½ times, cooled down and talked to some great families.
Off at tomorrow land. :hppmad: Grump Alert
This land is just about the worst place in the happiest place on earth. No space mountain until 2005 (I already knew this but it is now just a dead end), no people mover, nor the big misstep of the replacement rocket rods, no 360-degree movie, and just about no fun! Come on Disney - it is time for tomorrow land to be re-done in a big way!
Grump Alert over
Now I did go see Honey, I Shrunk, rode the Matterhorn and Star Tours. It was almost time to head out to catch a ride to the airport so shopped my way out. Stopped to see the band perform at the Main Street Train station. Saw BarbD and DH as they exited. Said, "Hey!"
It has been a great trip. It was just what the doctor ordered. I can make it until December now!
And some final thoughts:
I love to go solo to the parks. I know it is a huge indulgence on my part but it just makes me so happy.
CA is very hot, does not have a lot of shade, and just disappoints me. I may grow to love this park with time and as they continue to work out the details. For now, it's an in and out park. Do what I like and leave. I can live with that. I think people say that about other Disney Parks. So each to her own, I would say give it a try early in the day or late in the day. Have an open mind and have a great time.
Food is a different experience at DL than at WDW. It is almost an afterthought at DL where at WDW it can be a main focus. The Blue Bayou is a wonderful experience with great staff, great food, unbelievable atmosphere and a great time every time we have been there.
Now one of these days I am going to write a book about how to have a good time with your children at Disney. 90% of the parents and children at the park were having a great time, laughing and listening to each other. It was that 10% of parents who were yelling, missing the clues their children were giving them on being tired, thirsty, hot, hungry that made it uncomfortable for everyone around them. Let me give you an example. If your child asks you for some water, please give it to them. It is free at the counter services, there are fountains, you can pay $2.50 for a bottle, you can bring a thermos from home, water bottles in to the park but for heaven's sake this is not worth the battle. The 3 minutes it would take to get water would be worth the extra hour of playtime you all can have! Please trust me on this one!
The next planned trip to DL is 2005 to celebrate DL's 50th and my forty something birthday. I might be able to make it until then maybe
Ok let's just be honest I will find a way to go again before then!
