Some MK stores closing early

6/11/03) The latest rumors from CMs claim that something really wild may be afoot for the Merchandise shops. The following rumored information is only about the shops in the Adventureland, Frontierland and Liberty Square. Starting June 15th until at least October 1st (end of the Disney fiscal year) all shops other than Pirates Bazaar, Big Al’s & Splash Photo will not open until 11am and will close early at 6:30pm regardless of what time the park closes. Can anyone else confirm this? I’ve heard rumors coming down the pipe (mostly from Disneyland) claiming that Jay Rasulo was going to demand some major budget cuts from the Merchandise department... something that would make former bossman Paul Pressler roll in his grave. (If he were dead that is... he’s just moved on to The Gap, though there are many who will debate the difference.)


I saw some people talking about this at Disboards yesterday too. The original person said all Main Street stores which really didn't make much sense. But some other person said it was other stores, like those mentioned above. Someone else said they could get PS for after about 6:00 either, even when the park was open later.

I guess that makes sense. I've seen other amusement parks that didn't open stores or food places till 10 or 11 am, simply because most people tend to go for the attractions first, leaving the shops empty. If they're empty, they're not making money, but you still have to pay the light bill and the CMs salaries.

I don't think it is a problem opening the stores late especially when not very busy or even closing those that are not busy later. I think the worst thing is not having all the dinner options later when the parks open later. That is not shown in the info from screamscape, but I know people at disboards had mentioned the lack of later PS even when the park was to be opened late.
