What are your favorite food items you bring to DVC? Do you use that thingy in the kitchen called a stove?

On our first stay I was naive enough to think I'd actually cook quite a few of our meals and ended up throwing out a good bit of food. Looking for suggestions and ideas for our next trip.

Good question, Boo. :D I'm not yet a DVC owner, but I'm excited to hear what everyone does regarding cooking. When we stayed in the studio, we just bought sodas, juice boxes, milk, and bottled water to drink. We also got granola bars, muffins, grapes and strawberries to have for breakfast. We always eat breakfast in the room unless we are going to a character breakfast.

Currently, with the way we tour...I don't ever see us eating lunch in the room. We normally come back around 1-2pm. for some pool time and a nap. I can see us occasionally eating a quick, easy dinner before we go back to the parks in the evening (maybe a pizza or hot dogs).

One great idea I read somewhere, and plan on using when we get into a one bedroom, is to buy ice cream and cones. That way, you can go out onto the Boardwalk or just around for a walk with a nice treat, and the kids won't be hounding you to stop for expensive ice cream. 8)

I don't know why, but my favorite bagged snack food at a DVC resort is Smartfood Cheese Popcorn. I very rarely get this stuff, but for some reason, I always have a bag when I stay at DVC for more than 1 night.

We always do coffee, and bringing Starbucks makes it that much better! We also bring things for a light breakfast: bagles, butter, cream cheese, fruit, Diet Cokes for Cathy (horrors if those aren't there...lol), and usually some snack kinds of things for afternoon or evening. As for using the stove decoration thingy......not yet.

Shopping list typically includes:

at least a case of water bottles, or a few gallons to refill water bottles. (I like refilling water bottles 3/4 way and freezing them overnight. Fill any leftover space in bottle before leaving for park and water is ice cold for HOURS.

Breakfast foods of choice, snacks (prezels, pringles, microwave popcorn) Box of cheese crackers for park snacks, diet soda (a couple litres), juice and fruit. Bagels, bread, PB & J., some ice cream and maybe a bag of cookies. Don't buy too much - we've left a BUNCH of stuff for the maid several times. :)

And for use with that stove decoration thingy: Pillsbury cinamon buns and a couple boxes of mac and cheese for the girls.

I love the "stove decoration thingy" terminology. That's what it is for us about 99% of the time. We did make bacon and eggs once (and we have been DVCer's since 1994). Possibly have used it to boil water for something. Altho my two SIL's (also DVC members) have actually cooked meals on it.

We bring liters of Coke, microwave popcorn and other snacks, bagels, PB&J, cereal, coffee and that's about it. We buy milk and OJ when we arrive. Actually, last year we faxed a shopping list to OKW to have our refrigerator and kitchen stocked with food. Kind of expensive, but what the heck -- thought we would try it out. It was OK, but we didn't get everything we ordered -- like the little frozen pizza's (and maybe chicken fingers?) for my grandson. And, as Tagrel already mentioned, we usually leave lots of food in the refrigerator when we leave.

lol, that's what I thought! Breakfast and munchies, the food of champions!

DisneyPam, DH would absolutely live on Smartfood cheese popcorn if I let him. Good stuff.

I can confirm that the stove decoration can boil water for tea. :D

Geez, are we the only ones who pick up beer and champagne?? :eat: (Strictly for medicinal purposes, mind you. )

Like the others, we mostly pick up drinks, microwave popcorn and some quick breakfast items.

In 11 years, I have yet to cook a meal. I intend to keep that record intact for the next 41 years.

Lol, if it's the girls and I, we pick up 4 bottles of wine. When DH tags along, we add a case of beer and Smartfood cheese popcorn. :P Think I might try some of the new designer martinis this time. I need an excuse to buy the Mickey martini glasses. :)

We bring Starbucks or Torrefazzione coffee and a selection of teas with us from home. We also bring some spices, soy sauce, Tiger Sauce and wasabi. We sometimes bring scone mix. We swing over to costco and pick up a case of water, a case of coke, a veggie tray, and snackies. We stop at a grocery and pick up eggs, cereal, butter, french or italian bread, cheese of some sort, beer, and possibly wine (depending on the group). For marathon weekend we also pick up pasta and salad fixin's and celebratory champagne.

The only meal we consistently cook is breakfast - we have b'fast in the room about every other day. If there is a nice looking bit of ahi or some other fish at costco, we will pick up that and sear or grill it. Otherwise it is just snacking.

Ok, maybe we are in the minority. I cook breakfast every morning except one while we are at WDW. I am talking a full American breakfast. Bacon or Sausage, omelets (onion, mushroom, cheese, sun dried tomatoes), toast or english muffins, fruit (strawberries, blueberries & melon), cereal (oatmeal) and coffee. One of the things we love most about our DVC membership is that we can have a leisurely breakfast on the baloney at OKW before hitting the parks or the links. It is a great way to start the day and helps us save a few dollars as we rarely stop for lunch or eat a very late lunch (which is our dinner).

In the evening we enjoy, popcorn (cooked on that " stove decoration thingy"), nuts, wine or beer, soda, cheese and crackers while watching TV or our neighbors from our balconey.

After reading all the replies to this post, I think I will add ice cream to the shopping list.
