I'm wondering if Snickerdoodlesmommy has been talking to them. :santaWave:

ROFLOL! I don't have any decorations out yet, but I did buy the new Radio Disney Christmas CD last night and we listened to it on the way home!

I just want to say that I have had NO influence on anyone whatsoever about having any Christmas lights out and on yet.
That being said; It sounds like you have some very smart neighbors though!
I have been fighting all urges to get my tree(s) up. November 9th and not even one lil ole tree! ARGHH! (this should be illegal IMHO)
If we don't have an offer by Saturday though, I am putting one up I think, just because I wanna make more work for myself.

I plan on putting out my Christmas lights as soon as I can, probably in a week or two.
This means a sleigh, trees, nativity, reindeer, stars, lighted garland, etc...all in one color...amber or white.
The weather is more user-friendly before Thanksgiving.
I don't expect to light them however, until after Thanksgiving.
Like last year I plan to have all my Christmas decor up and ready to rock and roll before I go to Mousefest this year.
I've got lots of work ahead of me before I see Mickey again.

Don't you just love decorating for the Holidays Mike? Usually by this time I have 3 or 4 trees up and lit, a few Santas hanging out around the house, little reindeer, snowmen and Christmas bears hanging on each stair, Garlands on all the banisters, and the outside lights up the day before Thanksgiving.
This year though, with the house on the market, I am reluctant to put too much up, just to possibly have to take it all down again possibly BEFORE Christmas. sigh.

I was amazed at how many people put their lights up this weekend!! There were a number of people doing in in and around our neighborhood. I think what happens, is, people like to get them up while the weather is still pretty good - then the excitement overtakes them and they just can't resist throwing that switch and lighting them up!!!!

I can't even think about decorating until I get the next (hopefully last) coat of poly on the woodwork!! Mike wanted to leave allt he stuff around and wait until next spring (the smell bothers him so he wants to be able to open windows). I'm doing it this weekend while hes's gone so I can get the "carpentry and painter tools out of the living room and claen good before we decorate for Christmas. Although I don't think I'll have a day off until the kids get out for Christmas Dec. 17.

Well I must say LindaClaus is having an effect on me. We are buying another tree this year! My DH says it is because I have to many decorations for just one tree. I say only if it falls over are there to many ornaments.

I like to have several themes for my trees. I put one up with all snowmen and Santas on it in the dining room. In the Living room, I put up a Victorian themed tree that I go all out on, and in the family room I do a more traditional tree all in Red and gold.
The ones in the kitchen are smaller trees so I do miniature ornaments on them with red/clear lights.
Lot of work but hey, that's what makes it fun!!

I've seen Linda's Christmas trees and must admit the Victorian is my favorite, although they are all very nice.
Two trees here, one in the livingroom and one in the familyroom.

Christmas trees? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, a subject near and dear to my heart as much as DW is!! In this house, we have one 8' tree for the living room which I'll have up Thanksgiving day or day after (all decorations will be up before we leave for DW). In front hall, I have a 3' tree up on hope chest). In both bathroom I have tiny trees with colors to match the bathrooms and in the kitchen this year I hope to have a tiny tree on the kitchen table with aquamarine- colored ornaments to match the walls.
Front "JOY" sign on lawn goes out that day also and DH has replacements for the floodlights. Also, reindeer will go way out back this year nestled inbetween some of the evergreen trees with spotlights also so new neighbors up the hill can see them from behind us.
I have been looking for LARGE Christmas balls all week and can't find them (WalMart, KMart, Dollar Tree, Michaels, Target etc.). The swag I made for above the front window needs new ones as the paint peeled off the old ones. Any suggestions?
Oh, almost forgot, DH puts a 3' tree on table in the screened-in porch off kitchen and living room and lights it so it can be seen from side of house and back.

Claire,
Could you Paint or glitter the large ornaments you have to give them new life??? (Spray paint or use a spray adhesive for the glitter?) (Working with less than mature HS boys recently I never use that "b" word by itself always with a modifier infront-ie Basketball or Volleyball)

When I was in Birmingham in January, the hotel had a row of lighted deer with moving heads in the back yard - it lent some life to the space at night. Boy! I wanted some of those deer. A couple Saturday's ago, I found them! A buck and a doe, in the Christmas tree shoppe for $19.95 each. I dithered for a while on spending so much money frivolously. Then, I decided I had wanted them for 10 months, I'd regret not buying them. Later, I saw them in a catalogue for $79 each! Now THAT I would NOT have paid.

I soooooooo envy you all getting your trees up. I cannot go back on my deal with Richie......We do the smaller stick trees (3 of them 6-7 ft tall) . In exchange for him not having the hassle of the huge tree he takes me to the Wilderness Lodge for their 45 ft tree for 5 days.......Then we are off to our daughters where I get to be by the tree with her 3 little boys. Sinced it is my second trip to the Lodge in 6 months I dare not complain. Rich has willingly taken over the grocery shopping, vaccuming, and most of the cleaning since my illness and still works a 50 hr week so if he begs to not do a tree I am in no position to say a word. I am blessed to have him. Please someone post pictures of your trees.........I would love to see them.....

This may sound weird, but we have had our trees up since the day after Halloween. Since we will be at WDW the entire month of December, we always do this and then celebrate Christmas before we go. It is just too hard to take all the presents down with us. This way, we have a month to enjoy the tree (and all the work that goes into it) before we leave. I have already finished shopping and all the presents are wrapped. I even have the out-of-towners done and boxed up for UPS. Now I just have to wait until right before we leave to mail them. It may all sound very unorthodox, but it has worked for us for years now! :mickeyXmas:

I think it sounds great if it works for you! Think of how many trees you get to enjoy at WDW all through December. Of course this would not work well with school kids in the house, but it sounds like a fabulous way to spend December to me!!

My one concession to the arrival of Christmas this year is allowing christmas music to be played already. (I also set my phone ringers to Christmas Music yesterday!)
We're putting our wreaths on our windows and doors Thanksgiving Weekend - and we have one candle in the window - in the middle of each wreath - when we return from WDW we'll put the tree up and decorate it with toys - our toyland tree - popcorn - taffy candies etc. white lights and candles that are over 50 years old!! : ) The ones my mom bought as a new bride back in the late 40s (Tramp rewired one set but the second set could not be saved : ( and it is gone.
MissPig - all the years we lived in Phila - we had our tree up at Thanksgiving and had presents bought and wrapped - that's when our family came together - we had two holidays at once - understand just how it is : ) I posted in Catch All that the holiday comes from within not what a calendar dictates : ) Tramp is working this Thursday - so we had ours yesterday - making Turkey soup today :)

Many went on in our neighbourhood on Friday as that is the official day of our "Celebration of Lights", our own little Osborne light spectacular. Lots of little displays all along our waterfront, big arch over the road, looks quite spiffy for our little town! Tour busses come from miles around, including the States just to see them. It makes a lovely stroll when there is actually some snow on the ground. I tried to find some pictures but the few that change here will have to do. http://www.celebrationoflights.com/ and a few here http://images.google.ca/images?q=celebration%20of%20lights%20sarnia&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wi

BetsyAnn,
Girl, I'm impressed! When your done cleanign your house, wanna come do mine? Please?? :notworthy:
Looks like we may put out the green spot lights tomorrow night. And we line our front door (between the two door) with green rope lighting. Tree in the livingroom will have white lights and it looks pretty shining through the window. Oh and wreath on the front door.
I'm looking forward to putting the tree up, just don't care to clean before hand......Please BestyAnn!!!

Hey Betsy how about a trip to Indiana after Sheryls :D ??? Kidding aside- the neighbors here (almost a quarter mile away) have enough lights set up to look like the Osborne lights (note: we live in the middle of nowhere at the intersection of a corn and bean field!!!) I am sure they enjoy putting up their lights but come on !!! Mike did get our out and up too this week- we put out the "icicle light" around the front of the house down the driveway side and across the front of the garage! They won't be turned on though until at least Thanksgiving night!

Lights and wreaths are in garage just waiting to bust out today or Friday. If they go up today we won't hear the end of it when FIL visits tomorrow.
Listen girls, I can jump in my van in no time and go from Sheryl's to Pam's to help BetsyAnn clean all the homes. I'll bring along some lasagna, chianti, a salad and some freshly baked butter cookies (along with trusty mop and vacuum). Who else needs the house cleaned and a good meal early December? I may have to wait until after the DW trip to map my course though.

Our place near here that has a great light display is Lake Lanier Islands Magical nights of lights. You can see pictures of it here (http://www.lakelanierislands.com/mnol/).
Claire, put me on your list for a housecleaning. Actually mine needs to be more of a clean sweep closet kind of cleaning. I've cleaned in the house for 3 days for company tonight. I just pray to God they don't open a closet door or there is sure to be a call to 911!

Claire, I'll be looking for you!!! Bring Ronnie along, we have enough room!
Cheri, those lights are awesome.
Since we are only about 25 - 30 minutes from Niagara Falls we used to go up there every eyar at Christmas. They would decorate the actual downtown area, which had a Mall and botanical gardens. But since the City is broke, they no longer do it which is a real shame. I'll have to see what's going on with the falls this eyar, and maybe get some pictures to post. I think the Canadian side does (at least I they used to) Disney.

At least you don't have the type of neighbor who leaves them up all year! Oh Yeah, I can take a ride and find a few in my area who leave them on the eaves of the house year round. LOL. OK, I can understand if it's too hard to get them up and down for some. But that bugs me a little.
