Has anyone downloaded the new google search toolbar yet?
http://toolbar.google.com/index-beta.php
I subscribe to the Kim Kommando newsletter and Kim says she's using it without any problems, thus far. Besides sounding like a really neat tool, it also works to block pop-up ads.
Any comments, thoughts, etc. I'm really computer illiterate and will probably download this. But, I thought I'd ask here before I do it.

It appears that this is only a beta version. This means they are still testing it for bugs and such. If I were interested in it I would wait until it is released and not use the beta version.
If you are running an internet security program you should be able to use that to block pop-ups. I run Norton Internet Security 2003, and it works great to keep those pop-ups away.

Francine is right that its 'buyer' beware with Beta versions of software. I happen to be very comfortable with beta software, and can handle problems that arise, but I wouldn't suggest that course for everyone!
I'm running this beta Google toolbar and really like it so far. I ran the previous versions, and find it very useful, especially the new popup blockers.
Once it comes out of beta, it might be a great free choice for blocking popups, and gives you all those built in search options as well.

Thanks for the info. How long does "beta" last? It really sounds good and something that I would use. So, I'm curious how long the wait would be.

It completely depends on the product. If I see that is has been released (done with beta testing) I'll post again.
That looks too cool! I have downloaded and installed it to give it a couple of laps around the test track. Thanks for the heads up Deb, this should be fun.

You're welcome, Joe. I really would like to try it, too, but I'm not knowledgeable about such. I'll let it to those in the know like you and tagrel to give dummies like me a clue. It's sounds like an excellent tool and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
If anyone else is interested, and if tagrel doesn't mind, I'll tell y'all that I receive daily computer tips from this lady. Lots of it goes right over my head, but the tips that didn't, were just so useful to me.
If you're interested in signing up for either the daily or weekly newsletter, she is at www.komando.com
Thanks for checking out the google toolbar for me. Please let me know when the "beta" thingy ends. Did I say I really want this? lol

I've been using the original version of the Google toolbar for quite a while and I LOVE it. I downloaded the new version a couple of days ago and it seems to be pretty much just an improved version of the original. I'm very interested to see how well the popup-blocker works.

I really like the popup blocker so far. It shows that popups were blocked, gives you the ability to turn on/off blocking, and to also add a site to your 'whitelist' or a list of sites where popups are allowed. For instance, I allow popups on THIS site so that my New PM Message popup is displayed.
In the last day of surfing 22 popups have been blocked. :D I LIKE it!
