Nope, that is all I heard. I thought it was odd though. Why they would want to give it up?

OK, I'm not claiming to get this 100% right as it's pretty complicated. But the long and short of it is: this isn't a new development. Rather, it's part of the big master plan. Disney's involvement in Celebration is through The Celebration Company (TTC).

Trying to simplify the big plan: Disney never planned to own a town forever. Rather, they plan to build the best town possible, and transition it's government over to the residents. Only a fraction of the commercial land in Celebration has been developed so far, primarily in the downtown area. That's what is for sale now, along with the golf course. The residents are generally pleased that we've reached this point.

The official line from the TTC can be found at www.celebration.fl.us:

"TCC will maintain a presence on CROA, CNOA, the ECDD and CCDD. With the success of Celebration, we expect TCC’s residential development will near completion within the year... TCC’s next step is to continue to focus on expanding the commercial base along Celebration Place and Celebration Boulevard through the sale of commercial property."

All those initials stand for Celebration Residential Owners Association, Neighborhood Association, Community Development Districts and Commercial Development Districts (I think...). Disney's not going anywhere soon. But they are working to transition the actual running of the town to the people who live here. That was the plan all along.
