We are desparate for help : (

Who do we call to get help with Internet Explorer?
The Blue E thingy?

There is a mess or stuff that pops up while I'm in this great Disney site - and Tramp and I know where it came from and who caused it - without going into detail - you no doubt can guess -

We need to get rid of the stuff though - it keeps popping up - then another screen pops up and to get rid of that you have to shut down - etc. it's a real mess here and someone is real lucky to have been allowed to eat dinner

Same person did this to our other internet provider service and was banned from that - we changed the password - then they found the blue e thing - now they no longer are allowed near our computer - well I guess you know who is in the doghouse by now - grrrrrr

Dang 18 year olds!!!!!!!!!!! :hppmad:

LOL. Bad curious teenager, BAD!!! Where's that rolled up newspaper...

When the popups go crazy you can usually just keep hitting "Alt-F4" (hold down the Alt key and hit the F4 button) to keep closing windows very quickly. (If you have other programs running, they might get closed as well).

You can also run a different browser: Mozilla is a Netscape spinoff that has built in control over popups. (http://www.mozilla.org) There are also third party packages that will stop popups... I believe there is a thread about that here - but I've never used any of these products.

Good Luck. Sounds like someone gets to clean our the garage AND the attic this week!

sometimes it pays to monkey with things : )

I read your advice and heard from Moley and thanks to both of you : )
I went to the menu drop down lists and just started reading it all - music - no - dictionary - no - mindsweeper - no - just kept going through the list - then a light came on when my eyes fell upon the Help Button lol
clicked on that and then started reading that list - got to the settings and the parental lockout etc. - made Tagrel.com my home page : )
I will need to fine tune it - cause as of now every page on this site is locked - but I'd rather unlock each page then have the dang stuff that was all over our computer earlier - whew : )

Tramp can finetune all the lock outs tomorrow : )
Nite and thanks : )

Hoo, boy, do you have trouble over there!

If you're getting pop-up wiindows when you are HERE, then you have been infected with adware, because there are no pop-up ads on Tagrel.com. That means it's not a blue E-thingy problem, or even an internet problem per se, but a problem that is very similar to a computer virus. It doesn't cause any actual damage, but it ruins your surfing.

Here's a quote from an earlier thread about pop-up ads:

You can find a bunch of popup ad blockers listed on PC World Magazine's web site (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp)

Besides using a pop-up blocker, you should also install some sort of an anti-adware program. I use Ad-Aware 6 from LavaSoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/), but the other most recomended anti-adware program is Spybot Search & Destroy by PepiMK Software. (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/) Adware is a blight on the software world; it often installs itself on your PC without your knowledge or permission and pops up ad windows that have nothing to do with your web browser. Since these windows aren't controled by the browser, they are often not blocked by pop-up blockers. In fact, many of them will pop up when you're not even connected to the internet!

Ad-Aware is great. It works like an anti-virus program, and cleans all kinds of gunk off your computer. I just use the default options and it finds everything, and I get very few pop-up ads.

The pop-up ads I do get tend to be blank, empty browser windows, as the content is often blocked by my firewalls. I have two firewalls, 1 hardware, a Belkin 4-port router-hub, and 1 software, Norton Internet Security. Between these two, I'm very well protected against hacking and intrusions, and against programs I put on my computer connecting to the internet without my permission.

Get Ad-Aware and I'm certain it will clean off the, er, crud that is currently affecting your internet experience.
