what's the best way to send the cameras(digital & regular)/film/camcorders & tapes through security? Should I put them in luggage or carry it on? Do I need to worry about anything getting ruined?
Thanks!

The only thing you need to worry about is your film. Cameras (film or digital) and camcorders are not affected by x-rays, and neither are video tapes or digital camera memory cards. You can pack your cameras any way you want, though I personally never put them in checked bags because checked bags get thrown around pretty rough.

You can leave your various cameras and camcorders in your carry-on or in a camera bag and let it go through the x-ray machine without fear.

Film, on the other hand, should NEVER go through the x-rays. Pack it in a clear ziploc and ask for hand inspection. Don't forget about the roll of film that's actually IN your camera!

One more thing.

Some airports require you to remove the cameras from their case to proove that they are cameras.

My last two trips to WDW required me to place the camera outside the case.

I will also reinforce what Will said and that is to never put your camera in a checked bag.

thanks guys! I guess the same applies for disposable cameras as does for film?

Yes it does Rhonda. The disposables can be harmed by the x-ray machines just like your other film.

Just so you know, our airport security gave me a hard time about not putting film through the carry-on x-ray machine. They insisted it would not harm my film at all. I explained that I had high speed film and it would be affected. They sent over a supervisor who finally put it around the side of the machine for me. But even she said that it was low dose radiation and would not hurt any film.

They were adamant though, that the very strong xray on the checked baggage would ruin film.
