Hey, thanks! Got my turkey yesterday, ham is defrosting, and I'm going to be whipping up the pumpkin pie tomorrow (we have a wedding today to attend).
Have a great weekend!
Linda
thanks Linda was just going to ask that - what do you folks have on Thanksgiving - the same as the US? What is the story of your Thanksgiving - will you share another post with us : ) Hope all of you have an enjoyable one - and I'll take some of that pie please!

Shell and others,
Your Canadian History lesson for the day:
Our Thanksgiving is celebrated in a similar fashion, often with a traditional turkey dinner. The roots are different though, ours being essentially based on "giving thanks to God for the harvest." I know in church tomorrow there will be displays of produce all around. It is a stat holiday on Monday and everything is closed. Ours is more of a quiet holiday-not commercialized at all-not centred around major sporting events nor shopping crazes! Lots of county fairs around this time of year.

Sounds like a much more realistic Thanksgiving holiday to me!! Our church will be dressed in plentiful harvest goodies soon in honor of Thanksgiving also! ( the one place Thanksgiving still isn't comercialized is church) Happy THanksgiving all!

Thanks.
I have my turkey in the oven cooking slowly. Some have theirs on Sunday, others will on Monday. I baked 2 lemon meringue pies (asked DH if he REALLY wanted pumpkin pie, I would bake one but he said no.) We will have dressing (potatoe), potatoes, carrots, turnips, peas, corn, parsnips, cranberries and gravy. Oh yeah, and leftovers for the next week. I, too, have a holiday Monday and unfortunately may be on strike Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed that a settlement is made please.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all as well!!! We have a service at church for Thanksgiving and we donate food and turkies to make up baskets for those who can't afford it. We also are busy stocking the pantry and the "assisted living center" which shares the same property as our church. Most of the Lutherans who live there attend our church and we help keep the pantry stocked all year for the residents to use as they need it.
Sounds like the meal is the same as ours down here. Good old Turkey - everyone gets at least 3-4 meals out of one bird!!
Enjoy your holiday.

10:55 and I'm still full...nothing like Mum's turkey-only a 27 pounder this year...potatoes, dressing, sweet potatoes and mixed veggies with pumpkin pie (made from last year's jackolantern) and whipped cream. MMMMMmmmmm
 That's me, whose eyes were just a tich bigger than my stomach!
