So did anyone else watch this new show last night? Any thoughts?

Personally, I LOVED it. It is quite different than I thought, but I really enjoyed it, even laughed alot too. I thought there were alot of surprise twists to the story. I'm loking forward to seeing it the next episode on Sunday and for those who missed it, the first show will be on again on Saturday night.

We watched it and enjoyed it way more than we thought we would. We only decided to watch it because when we were at Universal Studios a few weeks ago they had residential street closed down for filming of this show. So it was kind of cool to see all the houses that we see on the tour all the time. Plus we have eaten at the restaurant where they shot the salad bar scene. Though there was no salad bar there for us! LOL! (The food was good:)

I watched and had a great time. It is funny and intriguing with lots of mysteries to solve. For those who are going to catch it in rerun on Saturday, I won't give away any spoilers. Just be sure for watch for some nice gardening spots. Mowing the lawn will never be the same for me again.

I think I'll enjoy this show in the long run. They have a good ensemble of actresses lined up to play these Desperado Suburbanites.

I'm staying with this one. The second episode was as much fun and intriguing as the first. My favorite character hands down is the beleaguered mom of 4 kids, played by Felicity Huffman. The best scene of the night was her discipline success with the sons from Hades. Can't wait to see more of her adventures.

Well, I know where I will be Sunday nights for a while. I really like this one!! Saw it for the first time tonight. Missed last Sunday and also missed the repeat last night when I got a phone call and didn't have the VCR ready. Anyone have a minute to fill me in on a few of the highlights from the first show???

Thanks!!

The highlights of the first show:

As we zoom in on one of suburbia's finest, we see a lovely Mom of one and loving wife do the daily chores in her picture perfect world. After she runs a few errands, looking beautiful and perfectly coifed, she comes home and grabs a box from the closet. She calmly takes out a pistol and shoots herself in the head. She is now the narrator of the show, following her suicide, wake and mystery surrounding her death with a voice as lovely and calm as she was before she bought that SUV in the sky.

One by one we are introduced to her friends and neighbors, all desperate housewives in one way or another. Her next door neighbor hears the shot of sudden death. In an effort to have an excuse to nose into the noise, she grabs a blender with the now deceased woman's name on it. When she runs to the house and sees the blender's rightful owner lying in a pool of skull blood, she returns to her own home, calls 911 and rips the rightful owner's name off the blender. As the show script said, "She is nothing if not practical."

At the wake, the friends and neighbors file in. There is Susan who is the world's worst cook. She is a recent divorcee and hopeful that she can attract the attention of the new neighbor Mike, unless he falls prey to the neighborhood slut, Edie. There is Lynette who shows up at the wake with her three sons from Hades in tow. When they jump in the pool naked, she must show good Mommy discipline by fishing them out of the pool in her black funeral dress and pumps. At one time she was a corporate executive but now she is on the Mommy track and it looks like she is consistently derailed. There is Bree who is Stepford's finest graduate and loathed by her hubby and kids. And there is hot Latina wifey Gabrielle who takes expensive gifts from her hubby Carlos and gives gardening tips to her 17 year old gardener and 'best friend.'

Gabrielle is increasingly reckless with bedding the gardener. When her hubby comes home right before a business dinner and swears he must fire the gardener for not mowing the lawn, Gabrielle must problem solve like Martha Stewart at a prison scrapbooking meet. She bribes a drink waiter at the party to keep Carlos busy while she goes home, dripping in sequins and diamonds, and mows the lawn in her evening gown before returning to the party. The next morning Carlos discovers he is wrong about the gardener. The lawn was mowed afterall and he must not have noticed it in the dark. Yes, Carlos, you are in the dark.

Susan is trying to make overtures to Mike, but Edie keeps getting in the way. Since he is a plumber, Susan decides to clog her sink and get him to fix it. She finds clogging isn't as easy as it looks. With Mike about to come to the rescue, she reaches for popsicle sticks to assist the cut hair and peanut butter in the clogging challenge.

At a restaurant dinner, Bree's hubby declares he wants to divorce her. Bree the Unperturbed grabs his salad plate and goes to the buffet to fulfill her wifely duties. She puts onions on the salad, onions which can kill a hubby deathly allergic to him. He ends up in the hospital and remarks to a bedside Bree that she tried to kill him. "Well, I'm really sorry about that," she replies genuinely. Bree will not let go of this marriage till death do her part.

The suicide wife's son awakes in the middle of the night. He hears a sound he hasn't heard in years. He goes to look outside and sees dear widower dad digging in the bottom of the drained swimming pool. We know Marie was buried earlier, so she is not down there. But that is all we know for now.

Susan is worried sick that Edie has succeeded in bedding Mike. She runs to Edie's house to see if it is true. As she goes in, with a cup to borrow sugar, candles are everywhere and groany noises are coming from upstairs. Upset she clumsily knocks over some candles and sets the whole house on fire. She runs out and joins the neighborhood in watching Edie's worldly goods burn to the ground. She hears that a guest has gone to the hospital with smoke inhalation. Whereas Edie's ample lungs are fine. Disheartened that Mike was bedded and she did an oopsie which resulted in arson, Susan hears a surprise voice beside her. It is Mike! He is not the bedtime guest of Edie's, not this time.

As the show comes to a close, we see Mike go back to his house and reveal a secret of his own. He may not be just a plumber. It appears he has the neighborhood under surveillance. And the object of his surveillance may require the use of an ominous gun he draws from his person and hides in the house.

Until desperation strikes suburbia again......

Moley you truly have missed your calling. You should be getting paid for writing. I love this show. It is so much fun!

Why is a show on ABC, as you know owned by Disney, filming at Un iversal Studios?

Production companies strike deals with competitors all the time. Universal had the right backlot at the right price. Repeat after me in your best Donald Trump voice(hoping you have better hair), "It's not personal, it's business."

Wow!! Thanks SO much, Moley!!! I loved every word. Networks or editors or someone should be calling. We always want to read more!

I am fascinated with this show and its cast. Any clues as to what is in the trunk that came bobbing back up in the water?

The obvious choice would be a dead body. I think it may be more stolen booty. And we're not talking gardener booty in that phrase.

KLF,
Everytime we take the tour they always mention productions from other studios/networks. Princess Diaries 2 (Disney) filmed there, as well as the Buffy/Angel series (WB), Beverly Hills 90210 (Fox - I think), and a bunch more but I can't remeber what studios/networks they were for. It seems all the studios rent out to others for various locations.

Our whole family is hooked on this one. Even John (who usually watches "manly" things with explosions, etc.) has thoroughly enjoyed it and has sat down with us every Sunday for an hour of guilty pleasure! We get a kick out of identifying certain people in our lives to each one of the characters on the show ...... striking similarities to some of them!
