My Grandma used to watch "Hawaii Five-O" with great enthusiasm and didn't understand why I cracked up each time McGarret barked "Book 'em, Dan-o, murder one." The music was great, the scenery fabulous, the dialogue horrible; the acting fluctuated between Dragnet-style woodenness and unintentionally hilarious overacting. Some of my favorite episodes from both "Dragnet" and "Hawaii Five-O" featured story lines about "radical hippie types." :P

Which TV cop shows have you liked or do you watch now? I know there are some other "Hill Street Blues" fans here. How about "Law & Order" or any of its various spinoffs? (Tangential note -- "The Simpsons" get points, once again, for a recent throwaway gag about "Law & Order: Elevator Inspectors Unit.")

Or maybe "NYPD Blues"? Or "CSI"? Or a million others I'm not remembering right now?

Yes, Hill Street Blues was a winner for me. My earlier days I liked McCloud and Baretta but my all time favorite was the edgy Homicide: Life on the Street. Andre Braugher as Pembleton was riveting. 8)

When I was little, Mom and I watched The Rookies and SWAT religiously.

Later I developed a fondness for Hill Street Blues (Alright, two years ago I bit off a nose. That's one lousy nose, now I'm marked for life?!) I also liked Hunter during it's heyday. If you ever get a chance to watch a short-lived show called Unsub (Unknown Subject), watch it! It was a fantastic show that was burried at 10pm on Friday nights for it's one and only season on the air and died an undeserved and quiet death.

Currently I'm hooked on CSI, and I've been watching Law & Order off and on for years.

I've always been more a fan of the private-I shows than cop shows. I liked the Rockford Files a lot, I loved Matt Huston, and nobody has ever been better on TV than Magnum, PI.

I personally am a HUGE fan of Law and Order as well as CSI on Thursday nights. I am not that crazy about the CSI:Miami one though.
I LOVED Hawaii Five-0 so much! In fact I even have a small painting done by Jack Lord (he was a pretty accomplished artist) and my front liscense tag says Book Em Danno! (you can buy these in Hawaii for $7.00 each.
They also have HANG LOOSE, ALOHA and several others.)

Ooh, another good show is Forensic Files, Cold Case Files and HBO's Autopsy...

Ahhhh! Police shows – my favorite after Star Trek!

Mod Squad, Adam 12, The Sunday night Mystery show – which originally had McCloud, Colombo, McMillan and wife and a western?

McCloud – one of my early favorites –“My Daddy always said, the best offense is a good defense, or was it the best defense is a good offense? What the h*ll did my Daddy say?” LOL

Then Starchy and Hutch, and of course Barretta, one of my favorites at the time. Then we could add Swat, Barney Miller, and a few others

Currently – any CSI, any Law and Order.

But my all time favorite is Hill Street Blues. The character development was classic, the story lines rich, the laughter and tears minutes apart. And there were times; you were almost sweating with them in that run down old station. Hill Street Blues was able to move new characters in and out with great ease. They had some of the finest actors, directors, and writers in their day. We still see the actors on CSI, Miami and NYPD Blues. Ok have I convinced you, yet! LOL

 I'm picturing Linda driving around with her "Book em Danno!" license plate. I love it!!!

You all have brought back such great memories. Remember when there was only one TV in the house, and the whole family gathered around it every night for a little TV time. My first memories of that are watching Lucy and Gunsmoke. But I certainly remember most of the "cop" shows y'all mentioned.

I don't think anyone mentioned Kojak yet. We always had to watch that one. My mom had a crush on Tele Savalas.

My all-time favorite has to be Homicide: Life on the Street. It was a great show, with some very gritty performances.

This isn't really a cop show, but did any of you ever watch Kolchak the Nightstalker? I loved that!

Fun question!

hmmm - well, I am pretty sure I never missed an episode of Adam 12, I also liked The FBI with Efrem Zimbalist, Jr at that time. I liked the Rockford Files and Mannix, and was a huge Magnum fan - I liked trying to pick out the location and Magnum's goofy laugh.
I am drawing a blank on the name of the series about the Boston PI - I think it was based on a Robert Parker series of books - ack! I also liked the one with Stacy Keach (can't remember the name of that either - where did I put my ginko?). Hill Street Blues was great - super ensemble cast. I also liked the Ellery Queen series.
Currently, I like CSI, but don't have much of a chance to watch it.

Thanks to all who answered so far. Now I'm wishing I'd seen "Homicide," 'cause I've really liked Andre Braugher in movies. A couple of specific notes:

roodad - I believe you're thinking of "Spenser for Hire." I only saw the show a few times but they did some things that cracked me up, like magically driving from Concord to Stockbridge in 10 minutes. If only!

Snickerdoodlesmommy- I think it's completely fab that you own a painting by Jack Lord. And your license plate's cracking me up. I want one!

I don't watch much TV anymore. The only show now that may apply is "Alias".

Way way back when I was a kid I loved:

Magnum PI

and

The A Team!

There are many old shows that I used to love to watch growing up...Rockford Files, Kojak, Mod Squad, Hawaii Five-o, Police Woman(with Angie Dickenson), Magnum PI, Adam 12, Emergency, Hart to Hart, Charlies Angels(not sure if this one counts). We ahd one TV when I was really young and my father loved all of these shows so I learned to love them also.

Now we love to watch...NYPD Blue, Law & Order, Without a Trace, CSI, and Crossing Jordan. However if my Dh has to go into work at 2 am, I cannot watch any of these. OR I don't sleep.

Hi Sandi,
Great question! When I was young I loved the Mod Squad andThe Rookies. I also liked the Rockford Files, Police Woman, Magnum PI, There was a show with Robert Stack that I liked but I can't think of the name. I will post it later if I think of it. I don't watch any of the new shows like that now. I saw Die Another Day which was my first 007 movie.
