Friday, June 6, day 6 (last day)
Sadly the last day of my trip had come. I went over and picked up Valerie. We hadn’t planned anything for that day. Katie and Valerie had talked about going to MGM to see the Star Wars stuff – that was the last weekend for it. I don’t think Katie felt good or was tired or something because she decided not to come along. So Val and I headed off to MGM.
Once again even though short on vacation time, we were being the lazy butt tourist and didn’t arrive until noontime. That plus Valerie did work until 2:30 the night before. Of course we were hungry so decided that would have to be the first thing to do. We decided on Prime Time Café and went over. I was a little nervous that our usual walk-up style wouldn’t work when I saw the crowd. We asked when we could be seated, and they said about 25 minutes so we waited. Luckily got a seat in the Den to wait, although with the crowd and the air conditioner not very high, it was hot in there – I did mention it was hot and humid that week, right?
While waiting we heard one of the people calling Jennifer (or some name like that) a couple of times and with a little annoyed voice just like a mom would when the kid doesn’t answer which fits right in with the script. The lady across from us gets up thinking she was going to be seated. I mentioned to Val how the lady calling the named was right in character with being annoyed. Then the lady comes back – turns out there was a mother looking for her kid Jennifer – although I think it was the hostess doing the calling for her. It was kind of a funny moment that you had to be there for.
After about 10 short minutes they called us and we were seated. The place was full and we were seated next to a family of four and a couple on the other side of us. Some of the tables can be quite close and basically what they do for two people are split apart a table for four. We didn’t have a very “fun” waitress, but she was okay and we were a little tired to get picked on. When someone at another table got in trouble for not eating their green beans, she informed us that she didn’t like them either so we wouldn’t get in trouble if we didn’t eat ours. Val was relieved, because that meant she didn’t have to sneak them onto my plate. She did give the two guys near us hat passes because they were their hats at the table, which was a good thing because one of the other picky waitresses said something to them. I don’t think she would have let them alone if they didn’t have the passes.
We decided to order the fried chicken and split it. One thing about this place is that they will automatically split the meal for you and you each get a serving of the mashed potatoes and green beans. With the fried chicken you get 3 pieces, so it works out really good to split this particular meal.
Originally we were going to get two different desserts, but decided to split Dad’s Special Sundae (I think that was the name of it). It was really big, with two big delicious chewy brownies included. It comes with vanilla ice cream but we ordered it with chocolate. I don’t remember the whole concoction, but it had the 2 brownies, ice cream, at least one topping hot fudge, whip cream, some other stuff like sprinkles & M&Ms or something (I don’t remember that), but they also dumped a box of cracker jacks on top of the whole thing – with the prize on the side. We ate every last bite of it. Then the waitress showed the people next to us how good we were that we cleaned our plates. Of course by that time it was two different groups of people that didn’t realize we split a meal, so we told them we did so they wouldn’t think we pigged out too much!
Despite our waitress not being the liveliest thing, other ones around us were. One waiter in particular was having a lot of fun at the expense of a bunch of guys. They had to stand in corners and one guy had to sing I’m a little teapot and some other stuff. At one point we heard a waitress coming through with a spoonful of what we thought were mashed potatoes complaining about someone with a potty mouth. Turns out it was a spoonful of whipped cream to help make them sweet.
We had actually missed much of the stuff going on for Star Wars weekend, but had planned enough time after lunch to go right to the Jedi Training. This was really cute. They picked about 10 little kids out of the audience and put little brown Jedi training robes on them and gave them practice light swords (can’t have the real thing if it is only practice). They had some Jedi warrior show them how to use them and practice a few specific moves hitting right shoulder, left shoulder, cut to the knee and up to the head – something like that. So they all learned it and practiced that technique as a group. Then Darth Vader and a couple of Storm Troopers showed up. Of course he wanted to convert some of those Jedi in Training. But the Jedi warrior told them they couldn’t be converted and they each individually did the little technique they had learned against Darth Vader. It was really cute. As they left the stage, they each got a little goodie bag of star wars stuff.
We then checked out the various characters they had to take pictures with. Each character was standing in front of a scene so you had a background shot. Previously they had R2D2 & C3PO there but not that day, so we didn’t bother to wait to get a picture with anyone. The lines weren’t very long; we just weren’t that interested so we didn’t bother.
There was a big gap in time before the next Star Wars thing that was going to take place in the ABC Theater, and at that point it started raining. It was raining very lightly but we headed into the Writer’s Stop (whatever that place is called right next door to Sci-Fi). We went in and found a comfortable chair and a hard chair and sat down to take a break. After all, we needed a break; we had stood up for that whole 20 minute show! Then the guy in the other comfortable chair got up and we both had a comfortable chair, which was really nice since it started raining really hard. We decided to sit out the approximately 30 minutes wait we had until the other show started. Slowly our eyes closed, but I still kept checking to see the time, and then we both fell asleep for 20 minutes. We woke up right when the show was starting – we didn’t bother running over trying to get in. At least we didn’t sleep as long as the people that were on the couch. They were there when we got in the shop and still asleep when we left.
We then decided we might as well just leave. It was getting late, and I wanted to bring Valerie to get some new work shoes. We wanted the same ones she already had and knew that they carried them at Payless. We stopped by the apartment complex to ask where the Payless was that gave CM discounts. The nice girls there looked up on the Internet to find the closest ones and called to find out if they were the ones that gave the discount. Lucky for us the very first store had the right shoes in the right size. CMs actually get discounts at a lot of the local businesses, not just Disney, which is really nice.
All that took longer than we had anticipated, so from there I brought Valerie right to work. This would be the last time I would see her this trip. It was of course sad to say goodbye. She of course didn’t want me to go, but I only get so much time off from work so I had to leave her.
After she went into work, I drove over to the MK. Went into the park and up to the train station. I was glad the train wasn’t there yet – actually think I just missed it. That gave me time to play that machine with all the instruments in the lobby. So many people just walk right by it, but it is a wonderful little machine and you can see all the instruments playing. It only costs a quarter. We also like to play the 10 cent soccer machine, but not as fun with only one person. I played the music once and skipped looking at the penny movies and then went out to the platform to wait for the train.
Got off the train at Frontierland and went to Splash Mountain. It was a walk on. There had been a lot of people at MGM, but MK wasn’t that crowded. I think a lot of the Gay Day Crowd was at the other parks, because the actual Gay “Day” event is planned for MK on Saturday. I had time for Splash and Haunted Mansion and then the park was closed. As I was leaving the park, I realized it was E-Ride night, which also meant no Mickey to say good-bye to me tonight.
I left my car in the MK parking lot and took the monorail over to EPCOT – no stupid boys throwing rocks this time. I entered the park and went onto Spaceship Earth. After that I headed over to World Showcase to get a pastry to go from France. I then headed over to Japan to once again watch Illuminations from the lounge. No big crowds in there that day and I got the seat I wanted by the window. I ordered some sushi and watched the last illuminations of my trip. I like the lounge, but those people in there just don’t seem very organized and it takes forever to get your bill and pay so by the time I left EPCOT was pretty deserted. I like walking through the park when it is like that, but it was really weird walking all alone without a companion. I spotted very few people along the way.
I made my way out of the Park and back to the monorail for my last ride of the trip. Back to MK and my car and my trip was over, but I still had a pastry from France to enjoy later.
Even though I didn’t have a lot of time in the parks and resorts and stuff, I still had a wonderful time! It was hot and humid and some rain, but not too bad and for most of the rain we seemed to be under cover at the time so that was good. It had been much hotter a few weeks before so I’m glad I wasn’t there then.
Sadly the last day of my trip had come. I went over and picked up Valerie. We hadn’t planned anything for that day.
