As many of you know, we are surprising our kids with a trip to WDW at the end of the month. We are going to pick them up at school at 12:00 p.m. on Friday the 24th and tell them we're taking them to WDW. I've already spoken to the teachers and informed them of what I'm planning and they are very excited and said they are willing to go along with whatever I decide to do. The first grade teacher said she will try to incorporate the surprise with her lesson plan. What I need is a poem that will be read by the teacher along to some kind of "Disney Music" and that will end with my daughter being told she is going to WDW. The teacher will then give her the MM ears and then we'll walk into the classroom.
If anyone can give me ideas of wording for the poem I would greatly appreciate it. My girls' names are Katelyn and Brianna. The first grade teacher said maybe we can play "When you wish upon a star", because Brianna is a Cinderealla fanatic!!!!

Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Just a question-have they been before? It would make a difference as to the references that could be made. Do you have specific plans, ie breakfast with the princesses in the castle/Norway?

Yes, they've been there many times, that's why we want to surprise them this way. We have breakfast planned at the castle in Norway, Cinderella Dinner at 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace, all their favorites.

That sounds wonderful and the teacher is a real Disney lover to go along with it.

But I am a little concerned that doing it this way might make the other kids in the class a little jealous. It might be better for the other kids if you didn't make such a huge deal of your trip in front of them but made it a more private surprise with your kids.

You might try telling them that you're going to taker them out of school early that morning to go someplace ordinary like the Grans place, then spring the surprise on them by having a WDW gift basket waiting for them in the car. Or simply don't send them to school that day; wake them up with a Mickey wake up call and let them know first thing in the morning.

I actually thought about that too. I spoke to the teachers about the other kids feeling bad and they said not to worry about it. They said they would make it so the others kids enjoy the surprise of it all. We have some pretty good kids in their classes and a lot of them are WDW vistors themselves!!

I think the kids would be excited one of there's is going. Maybe could send a postcard to the class.

How about writing that poem to "T'was the Night before Christmas" that always worked for me for poems I had to write for special occasions. (everyone knows the rythm and verse and it's cairly easy to rhym) . I'll work on it at school today if I have time! (and the room is quiet enough to think in )

OK, here is my contribution...I should be marking math and English...

In a place so magical in a land far away,
Where dreams are shared and fairies play,
There live bears and dwarfs, mice and dogs,
Princesses and Princes rather than frogs.

You can climb up a tree, float very slow,
Sail over London and go see a show.
Ride a big train, drive a small car,
Visit three mountains, best Wishes, by far!

Giraffes, zebras, tommies and elephants,
Wander around your jeep and the plants.
Gorillas and tigers can be seen through the glass,
Of course there’s no waiting, where’s your fast pass?

All the great movies are there to enjoy,
But the elevator is broken, it drops-oh boy!
Things jump out and there’s an Atat,
A beast and a mermaid, and yes-a big hat.

Around the world the people are lovely,
But please watch out, don’t drink the Beverly.
Greenhouses and fishes, figments and all,
Dinosaurs, fast cars and a huge silver ball.

If all of these things sound magical, they are!
They sparkle like fireflies kept in a jar!
A fairy tale better than any ever told,
A place to enjoy if you’re young or you’re old.

Have you all figured out just where this might be?
Did you get all the clues? Follow along with me!
There is so much to do there, so much to see.
This happy place on earth is so warm and sunny.

You can have breakfast with Cinderella and Belle,
Lunch with Pooh, Tigger and Piglet, oh well.
It all might sound just too good to be true,
But someone is going there, and (child’s name) it’s YOU!

This is absolutely perfect!!! It brought tears to my eyes when I finished reading it, just imagining how my kids will feel when they hear their name at the end of this wonderful poem. I called my friend and read it to her and she cried too!!! You've done a wonderful job, I can't believe how well it fits. Thank you so much.

Susan, your poem has become an instant hit. I took it in to the school, one of the teachers teared up, and the other wants to make a copy to surprise her kids one day. I was talking to Brianna's gymnastics coaches about it and they want me to bring it in. I think you should publish poems, you are wonderful at this. All I have to do now is purchase a copy of "When you wish upon a Star". They are going to start playing it when the poem reads about being magical. I cannot wait, I think this is going to be the best part of the trip, the surprise!!!! Now I just have to get my daughter's friends to stop inviting her to birthday parties the same weekend we're leaving!!

3princesses, I'm glad it fit the bill! I look forward to hearing the kid's reaction-but hey, this could be more for the adults!!! A Disney tear is a good tear!
