Tuesday, June 3, Day 3 (moving, TL, & DQ)
Picked up Val early this morning at 8:15. This was her moving day and she wanted to be first in line to get the key so she could pick the room she wanted. On Monday morning Katie said she would go with us, but Monday night when she was tired she decided against it. It didn’t really matter we just brought an extra blanket over to claim Katie’s bed so they could still share a room.
They were suppose to start giving out the keys at 9:00 and we heard there had been a line the other day so we planned to be first in line. We got there and they were open already and the guy gave us the key with no problem (we heard later her friend Kristie had waited in a line).
We quickly went over to the apartment with the two blankets we had, and a couple of boxes and claimed the room Val wanted. Val wanted the front room and knew the other girl from the group of original roommates wanted one of the back rooms, but had no idea what the other new people (chance of 3) coming in would want. As we were there first her current roommate showed up and claimed the bedroom she wanted and as we were leaving one of the new girls showed up. I think she would have taken the room Val took, because she made some comment about it being taken already. Good thing we got up early!
We then headed back over to her Chatham apartment to pick up some other stuff and get Katie moving too. Katie had gotten home earlier from work the day before and packed a lot of her stuff. We then moved most of their stuff, but left some behind so they could spend one last night at the nice place. Arriving at the new place we just left the boxes in the room and the three of us decided to head out for a fun day, both Katie and Val had the day off. First stop would be lunch though because we were hungry!
Took us awhile before deciding on something. I didn’t want anything I could get at home. We didn’t want to take the time to go into any parks, and finally decided on Fulton’s. We called and made a PS for opening. We arrived there about 10 minutes before opening and went in and sat down and looked the menu over while waiting. When we walked in the door it was bright and sunny outside – about 10 minutes later when they escorted us to our upstairs seats by the window we could see the storm about to hit. About 2 minutes later – lightning and a ton of rain. By the time we finished it was over. We planned that just right!
I had a crab sandwich – very good. Both Valerie and Katie got the crab and lobster bisque – very good. Valerie also got an appetizer of shrimp and crab legs – she said it was good. Katie got the Fish & Chips – she said they were good. She had lived for a time in England and one of the few things she liked there was fish & chips, so I guess her opinion counts.
We had decided to go to TL for a few hours since the CM could get in ˝ price and their guests too. So for me and Val we really only paid the price of one admission. Katie had never been so it was something new for her. We floated around the river first and then to the other offerings. Somehow in the sea of people in the wave pool Val spotted DisneyPam. We went and said hi and then Katie and Val swam out to catch the big waves – which unfortunately ended about 2 waves later.
I talked to Pam and Elayna. Esmerelda and Ursalinda were somewhere on the beach. Elayna was having a great time with Pam and she showed me how good she could swim. She did excellent for only having one year of lessons. Pam told me she hadn’t mastered the breathing part yet, but neither have I and I’ve been swimming for a lot longer than a year – actually I know I’ll never get the breathing part so I expect Elayna will probably be doing better than me next time I see her. The two of them went to coax the other two in since the waves were now bobbing which apparently Ursalinda liked.
About that time Katie & Val came back in – they hadn’t heard the announcement of 30 minutes of bobbing waves and were out there for a bit waiting for the big ones. We decided to go do other stuff until the surfing waves came back. Never did see if Elayna managed to convince her mother to come in.
As we were swimming we decided we were all getting pretty hungry even though we had a big lunch. We didn’t stop and eat, but talked about what we would eat and how swimming can make you so hungry even after a big lunch. After talking a bit about what to eat, Katie and Val talked me into going to B&C for a Kitchen Sink for dinner. We left the water at TL before it officially closed and by the time we changed and all it was closed.
That night we planned to go to DQ. CMs were getting in free for a certain time period and Katie wouldn’t be able to go the following week when her family was there because they had other things on the agenda. Val had gotten a pass a few months earlier that was good to the end of the month for her and 3 friends. We ended up using that for my admission, but sadly let the other two freebies go.
It took us some time between leaving TL and picking up the free tickets to DQ because we weren't sure which apartment we left them at and ended up having to go to both. Because of the extra time we decided we wouldn't have enough time for B&C and would have to settle for Cheesecake Factory at DQ. Is that really settling? I don't think so.
We didn't eat right away, but got a slice of pizza and some rolls and sauce - not bad at all and not too expensive. After we each got a piece of cheesecake which we couldn't finish since we at the pizza and rolls.
We all did a bunch of stuff together including the animation drawing and then we split up with Katie because she wanted to do that dancing machine thing for the rest of the night. We just decided we would both leave when we were ready – Katie had her own car with her.
Val and I only stayed about 10 minutes more and then headed out about ˝ hour before the place closed. We needed to try to find a cake, card and balloon for one of her other roommates that had a birthday. I then brought Val home for one last night at her nice apartment. Katie had managed to beat us home and wondered what had happened to us, since she saw that our car was gone from DQ.
We had a full fun day that seemed to fly by.
