Monday, June 2 (Day 2)
Val had to be at work today at 3:00, but we needed to get some packing done. I went over to her apartment about 9:00 and we went to pick up some boxes from the clubhouse. Katie had an early shift that morning so we didn’t end up disturbing her. We packed up a lot of Val’s stuff, actually most of it. We didn’t bother cleaning anything at that time because it would be easier when the room was empty and Katie hadn’t started packing at all yet.
We then decided we needed lunch before Val had to go to work. We didn’t have a lot of time, so decided to try Chevy’s at The Crossroads. It was okay, but I prefer On The Border that we have at home. One meal and we didn’t try everything, so not the best comparison. We both got combo meals and for one choice we had the same thing, so we really only tried 3 main foods. Out of that the Chimichanga was good, but the other two things were kind of blah. I like the rice at On The Border better too. This place had the choice of 3 different beans and I chose something different so I couldn’t compare the refried beans to the refried beans. I really liked the corn stuff (forget the name). It tasted like sweet uncooked corn bread – it was good, but very little of it…about a tablespoonful.
I then drove Val over to her check in place and arranged to meet her in her location that she would be working – she found out where it would be the day before. I sat down watching the kids in the fountain wishing I had a change of clothes with me so I could join them. It was hot, so I settled for watching, sitting in the shade, and my squeeze breeze.
Finally met up with Val and chatted for a few minutes and got some pictures. It was totally weird to see my DD dressed up in a Disney costume as a real Disney CM, cutting through the back stage areas. It was weird the first time I saw one of my friends working there, but this was sooooooo much weirder.
I had to let her get back so work, so I then headed off to the park. I decided to go to MGM and find Owen and Katie and get a picture. My first stop was ToT for a FP and then asking around for Owen. I thought I found him because the girl at the merchandise cart at RnR said that she knew Owen, but hadn’t seen him that day. However, upon further discussion I found out that was a different Owen – not a new summer hire.
I then went over to Animation Courtyard to find Katie. Found her in the middle of an empty courtyard manning a cart. I thought she saw me coming, but when I went to take a picture she spotted me and started hiding. It was quite a comedy routine for a minute. Her running around the cart and me chasing her with my camera. She said she didn’t mind her picture being taken just not as a surprise. I told her it was no longer a surprise, so just stand still. She did and I got my picture – came out real good too.
I chatted with her for a while and told her that I couldn’t find Owen. Told her we left some boxes for her and found out she was getting out of work earlier than she thought so I lucked out by going there first to find her.
I then headed over to ToT to use my FP but came upon the Streetmosphere Players and plopped down on the curb and watched. When they finished I walked over to ToT to find out they wait was down to 13 minutes which means no line at ToT. I then rode 3 or 4 times never needing that FP. When I got it the wait was 40 mins I think – or so it said. I never trust a stand-by time and always ask CM at gate, you would be surprised how many times I get a different answer about the real wait time. That day I had just grabbed the FP though because I needed to find Owen & Katie.
After a few drops on ToT I decided to see the last Little Mermaid show of the day since I had only seen it once years ago. When we saw it we ended up sitting next to a very loud very smelly guy and it kind of turned us off. I didn’t remember much about it but did realize some of the changes they made. I really like the part in the beginning with all the puppets, but I would have been happy to just leave after that.
After the show I needed dinner. I decided I would get something to eat while at Fantasmic. Stopped by the Brown Derby to request a piece of grapefruit cake to go. What a production that was – it took forever. It was good, but not as good as it should have been for the price. Of course it wasn’t chocolate so it had that going against it from the beginning. Oh well, at least I know what others are talking about when they refer to the cake.
I knew one piece of cake wasn’t going to fill me up so I browsed at the Sunset Ranch Market, but nothing appealed to me. I know I had bought a turkey sandwich there before but I didn’t see any there, so I settled on ice cream – not too bad a choice. The lines weren’t that long, but that took forever too. I was having trouble deciding on which flavor to have and had it narrowed down to chocolate or butter pecan when the kid in front of me had the last bit of chocolate – decision made.
I then walked over and right in to Fantasmic. I had a seat in the 2nd to last section but way down front. They said fill in any empty space so I found a spot behind a little kid. By the time I finished the ice cream and cake it was about time for the show. A lady in the ice cream line told me the day before they went early and had standing room only. That day she sent her husband ahead to get them seats. I guess I picked a good day because no wait in line and easily got a seat with plenty more within a half hour of show. Don’t know if they ended up standing room only that day.
After the show I waited for a good portion of the crowd to move out before I got up and headed for my car. I was picking up Val after work at 11:30 so I headed over to DD.
I thought I would take a boat ride over to DxL but didn’t have enough time to go two ways and didn’t want to take the bus back. So I just looked around a few stores. The last store I went in was The Art of Disney and the new scrapbooking stuff. I started to leave and found the door locked, so I turned to try to head out the other door and they were blocking my way to the other room and other door. For a minute I thought they were trying to force me to buy something, or they just liked me so much they wanted me to stay – I am nice, but didn’t think I was that nice! I asked the CM blocking my way how could I get out and she pointed to the door I had just come from. I told her it was locked, but she said the lady at the door would let me out. Huh? There was no lady at the door, but when I turned around there she was. When I got back to the door she told me that she saw me trying to get out but before could get to me I had disappeared. The trip was new still, and I guess I was still moving fast at that point.
I then drove over to the CM building to pick up Val and she asked me if I could bring her friend Christie from the Art of Disney store home too. It was the girl that let me out of the store. When she got in the car I told her I thought we had already met and told her I was the lady trying to leave the store. Sure enough it was here. Turns out I wasn’t trying to be forced to buy something or that they just thought I was nice, but just she was busy doing something else at the moment I tried to leave. I really am nice though.
Because it was before 2 am I could drive them into the complex and drop them off at their door. I then went back to my hotel to sleep – tomorrow was going to be an unusual early day for us.
