Trip, June 1 – June 6, day 1
Sunday, June 1
I called my DD and told her I would be there probably in about 2 hours. I arrived at her apartment and checked in with no problem. Knocked at her door and she answered and said “what are you doing here?!” – a fine greeting and I was a bit surprised. Apparently she hadn’t gone to the guard yet to sign me in and was stunned I made it through Security, so she was a bit surprised too. He looked me up in the book and let me through though – he must have seen an old registration and didn’t pay that much attention. BTW - after the initial surprise, I got the proper hug I deserved!
We then sat and chatted a bit and I saw some of the stuff she had accumulated since she got there. I also looked at Katie’s scrapbook, although sleepily and think I missed some of it. It was getting late and we had plans to go to the meet at Contemporary and Katie had to go to work.
Val and I headed over to the Contemporary and almost walked right past the group. Alicia had printed up some nice signs and being as tired as I was I thought it said something else. Everyone at the meet was new to me except Rosie, however, I had barely met her before during a Christmas meet. I knew most if not all the names though and remember reading previous trip reports from Ellen & Margaret. Didn’t get to really talk to all, it was kind of chaotic.
Esmerelda brought her before picture and WOW what a difference – she has a lot to be proud of. Val and I split a chicken caesar salad there since we didn’t get a chance to eat beforehand.
After the meet, Val and I drove over to Property Control and The Cast Connection and did some shopping. They are located on the backside of MK past the train/monorail station. Property Control is under a huge tent and no air conditioning. Cast Connection is set up in a big trailer with air conditioning. I think they are building a permanent Property Control building to replace the tents – I think that is what Val said the building was.
Our first stop was Property Control. Property Control is where all unclaimed lost and found items and damaged merchandize, and no longer used things like dishes from a restaurant go. Unless an item is marked as “it will be this price” everything is 75% off of listed price. I found a not barely damaged picture frame, a cute Minnie Mouse blanket that had a little dirt on it, but I think will come out with some Wisk, and a Christmas Ornament with Potpourri (the scrollwork had hidden Mickey’s on it. The Christmas Ornament had no damage and no original sale price that we spotted so it must have been a lost & found item.
We then briefly went into the Cast Connection building – the air conditioning felt wonderful – it was really hot and humid. All the stuff in there is new and 30% off. It is a combination of stuff you can get in the parks and other things you might find at one of the outlet stores. We barely skimmed this building because we were running out of time.
We left there and drove over to DD and went to Wentzel’s Pretzels for a quick dinner. I think the pretzels at our mall are better, but they had hot dogs wrapped in the pretzel with cheese baked on. Those were pretty good.
While there I stopped at the Guest Services and picked up my new AP because I lost my other one. Val was extremely jealous that I ended up with Minnie Mouse. I told her she could have it when I was done with it.
I then dropped Val off at the building she has to check into. Then went to check into hotel. I think I just rested and watched a little TV because I was tired and I had agreed to pick her up from work at 2:30 in the morning so she didn’t have to take the 2-bus ride trip home – I’m a very nice mom you know. Since it was after 2 in the morning I could only drop her off at the gate, but that is where the bus would have left her off and it was still better than the 2-bus trip and a lot shorter time.
