Valerie got hit in the head at work the other day. The doctor gave her 800 mg Ibuprofen and told her to use an ice pack. Doctor said there was internal swelling but not internal bleeding. She was sent home yesterday and today & tomorrow she has the day off so she is at home. She thought after resting yesterday and this morning she should feel better. However, just sitting around she felt just as bad today and when she had to go outside for just a few minutes she said the pain was much worse.
The doctor did put her on some restrictions when she goes back to work on Saturday and continuing until at least Tuesday when she goes back to the doctor. She is calling the doctor back today about how she feels when she goes outside because she does have outdoor assignments the next few days. Also to tell the doctor how much worse she felt going outside.
After all my rambling, I do have a question(s) just wanted to give you background. Have you ever gotten hit in the head pretty hard? Hard enough to have to go to the doctor, but not severe enough of passing out? She said she doesn't believe she passed out, but if she did only for a second. How long did you feel bad? What did your doctor do for you? What else can you think of that she might want to know?
Hi Rosebud, I've never gotten hit in the head that hard but my daughter-in-law has. At first it didn't seem that bad but after a few days her eyes got rings under them, she had a horrible headache and would get dizzy just walking, she finally went to the Doctor and it was confirmed she had a mild concussion - Val may have one too. I would say, if she doesn't feel better in a few days or the symptoms get worse she may want to go back to the Dr. Although I think rest is the most important thing. Good Luck to her! :tink:

So sorry to hear about Val. I hope she continues to improve and there are no other side effects. How did it happen?
My daughter fell in the school bus one year and hit her head on the metal bar (she was standing as it was coming to a stop at our house). She said she did not black out but she did have a really bad headache for awhile. It was during a blizzard and we couldn't get out to get to doc anyhow but we were told to put ice on it and make her sit up for awhile. Her vision was okay. She was sore for a few days but she improved. As long as the doc checked out Val, that's good but if she does not improve I would definitely have her go back to doc just to be sure.
I will send prayers and dust her way for a quick recovery.

I think she should be in touch with her doctor NOW! The fact that the pain is worse is a bad deal. Sending pixie dust.

Rosebud I have never been hit that hard in the head but just wanted to send my good wishes to Val. Hope she is feeling better soon. It must be hard to be so far away from her when she is feeling so bad.

I once got a mild concussion "traying" during finals at college (hey it was the first really good snow who would stay in and study for finals!!) Ibuprofen is probably the best thing for her since it will help with both pain and swelling. My headache lasted a couple of days (still did ok on my German final). I know major sprain and strains usually hurt worse the next day- hopefully by tomorrow (thurs??) she is feeling some better- if not I'd ask for a second opinion.
Prayers and PD on the way that by tomorrow she notices lots of improvement!

I hope Val is feeling better. I agree if she isn't feeling better tomorrow she should get checked out again.
Let us know how she is doing.

I hope Val feels better soon. I agree with everyone. She should really see a doctor and get this checked out. A friend's son had a head injury recently from hitting his head on concrete. He spent a few days in ICU. I'm sure this is nothing as serious but still worth checking out.
Pixie dust to both of you! :tink:

Hope Val gets to feeling better real soon. :fairymagic: And with everyone else - feeling worse and the outside thing would make me call the doctor's office again.
I did get hit in the head very hard one time - I never passed out - but I totally understand seeing stars. (doing something fun but did not involve snow or trays ;) ) I had a mild concussion - a headache for days - felt about the same the next day but better each day after - took several days to feel back to normal. And sunlight did make it worse for me the first few days -the doc warned about that due to the location of the bump -- and I did have a huge ugly bruised bump for days!

Well it was the first snow and finals, so what else could you do!?!
Haven't talked to Val today, I don't want to wake her in case she is sleeping. But I know she put a call into the Dr. yesterday to get her to add the restrictiong specifically saying no outside work. She has lots of restrictions listed now, but depends on how you interpret it whether outside work should be excluded. I've heard from a few people that sunlight made them feel worse so that appears to be normal.
This is not the first time she has gotten hit in the head - well the other two times she hit her head and this time something hit her. Valerie actually has a "Harry Potter" lightening bolt scar in the center of her forehead from one of her first experiences.
And yes Margaret it is tough for them to be hurt and not being near them. Although I was more frightened upon walking up to the day care center one day to find paramedics and an ambulance in the driveway, knowing by the time I arrived there were only about 2 or 3 kids left. That is the day she ended up with the Harry Potter scar. She was about 5 or 6 yrs old then.
And as I recall another time when my neighbor shoved her in my arms yelling at me to hurry up and get in the car because we were going to the ER. We had just got back from the beach and I jumped in the car barefoot with a bathing suit and t-shirt holding my baby with a towel pressed up to her forehead not knowing what happened. She was still in diapers then and it was pretty scary to come down the stairs to her apartment to find out she had gotten hurt. I remember it so clearly, her son was sceaming "VALERIE" and I thought he was mad at hurt about something she got into (they were like brother & sister) so I came calmly down the stairs to find everyone freaking out. She ended up with a scar from that too - littler though and only a butterfly stitch that time.

Poor Valerie. I hope she is feeling much better today. PLease tell her we wish her well. :hugging:
Being the clumsy family we are, we've had a few head injuries. I once came into the house looking for Ter, and found him passed out on the basement floor. We had just moved into this house, and he was working in the basement when he walked into a part of the ceiling that was lower than the rest. He was walking so fast, he knocked himself out.
Another was when Ter was wrestling with the boys in the livingroom. He flung them off his back, sending Nicholas into the corner of a pilar bordering my livingroom and entrance area, splitting Nick's head open. Thank goodness the hospital is 3 minutes down the road. Imagine the look on Ter's face when Nick was asked by the doctor how it happened. My then 5 year old announced..."My dad did this to me!" Hence, no more wrestling in the house.
Anyways, I hope Val is okay and feeling better. Please keep us updated Rosebud.

I hope Val is feeling better this morning. Please let us know how she is doing.
My son and I were tickling each other just a few weeks ago and he fell on his knee right in the side of my head above my ear. I was sure he had cracked my skull. I'm still not convinced he didn't. And I had a headace for over a week.

She hasn't noticed any improvement yet. Today she had to go back to work, and hopefully she will make it through the whole day.
She was very concerned because she was scheduled outdoors today and going out in the bright lights is what bothers her most (and a lot). She tried calling the doctor to get them to add it to her restrictions, but didn't work. Tried calling the schedulers to get them to switch her, but no good. So finally got back to the doctor this morning to stress how bad she felt. The doctor wanted her to wear sunglasses but Val said that didn't work. Val has never felt comfortable wearing sunglasses no matter how bright it is, said it always bothered her. But because the light was bothering her so much she borrowed a pair from her roommate and the light still bothers her. I know Val enough to know if she was willing to try sunglasses she must really be hurting.
Anyhow she finally got the doctor to agree to put "not able to work in direct sunlight" on her restrictions. She was still nervous that a manager would give her a hard time but when she got to work they agreed to move her to Morroco and only give her the indoor sets. Hopefully, when she is at MK tomorrow they will be as cooperative.
They cancelled her original return to doctor appointment on the 31st and rescheduled her for the 3rd, so her restrictions are all set at least until next Friday. I hope she is feeling better by then. And I hope she survives the next few days working.
