Pop Ups
I'm overrun and overwhelmed by pop ups!
I tried a pop up blocker.. but seemed to get just as many with it so I didn't accept the subscription after the trial period..
Any suggestions?
Is there anything I can reset on my laptop to make them stop :?:

Were using No Ads adn its working really well. We have to add problematic ones to our target list but it immedialy goes away and never reappears. The only problem I have run into is it also recognizes the pop up portion of the online tv guide as a pop up but I figure I can turn it off briefly when I really want to see that detail.
Heres the link to it: http://www.southbaypc.com/NoAds/
It says its free. I really dont know if we paid for ours or not as this is my husbands department to handle adn hes not home for me to ask right now.
Now that we have so many on our target list we rarely get a pop up.

You can find a bunch of popup ad blockers listed on PC World Magazine's web site (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp)
Besides using a pop-up blocker, you should also install some sort of an anti-adware program. I use Ad-Aware 6 from LavaSoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/), but the other most recomended anti-adware program is Spybot Search & Destroy by PepiMK Software. (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/) Adware is a blight on the software world; it often installs itself on your PC without your knowledge or permission and pops up ad windows that have nothing to do with your web browser. Since these windows aren't controled by the browser, they are often not blocked by pop-up blockers. In fact, many of them will pop up when you're not even connected to the internet!
Ad-Aware is great. It works like an anti-virus program, and cleans all kinds of gunk off your computer. I just use the default options and it finds everything, and I get very few pop-up ads.
The pop-up ads I do get tend to be blank, empty browser windows, as the content is often blocked by my firewalls. I have two firewalls, 1 hardware, a Belkin 4-port router-hub, and 1 software, Norton Internet Security. Between these two, I'm very well protected against hacking and intrusions, and against programs I put on my computer connecting to the internet without my permission.

You guys are lifesavers! Those horrible popup ads are getting out of control; and, as a person with no technical abilities, I had no idea where to turn. Every software company promises that their product will be the one to blast those ads to oblivion, but they could be just the teeniest bit biased. Will definitely check out your suggestions.
Thanks again!! :theWave:

I use the above pop-up stopper. It was recommended in a newsletter that I subscribe to by Kim Kommando. I've received so many great tips from her and the free software above is definitely doing the trick.
