Resorts – Coronado Springs & Animal Kingdom Lodge

Thursday May 29th

We decided to get up early today & head to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to check in early. We left our stuff in the room at Coronado Springs just in case our room at AKL was not ready. I really did not want to be without a room until 3pm. Luck was again with us. At 8am we were standing at the check in desk at AKL & gave the Cast Member our name. She looked at our reservation & then said “Did you ask for a special room”, No I said, she looked again & said “Are you sure you did not ask for a special room or location”. No I said I requested something near the Pool but that was it. She just kept looking at the reservation & then at me until finally I said, well I did meet the Night Manager at Teppanyaki for lunch the other day. She then nodded & said Oh yes, well you have a very nice room. I am sure she was very surprised as I got our room at the same rate that Disney employees get the room due to where I work & had only paid for a Standard View. She said your room is ready & it is a very nice Deluxe Pool view room. Matt & I were very happy of course & decided to head up to the room prior to our going back to Coronado Springs for our luggage. We headed down the Zebra Trail & up to the 5th floor. We both said, as soon as we got off the elevator, that our room could not be a pool view because it was on the opposite side. Weren’t we surprised when we opened the door to a beautiful Deluxe Savanna Room. I looked at Matt & said don’t you ever complain about me talking to strangers again – ha! Thanks so much to the Night Manager Beau – you made our day! Now I know that this may surprise some but even though we loved our room I would still be happy staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge even without a Savanna view. This is just an amazing resort to explore.
We headed back to Coronado Springs to grab our luggage, returned to AKL to unpack & then headed over to MGM. Matt & I are hooked on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Play it. Matt got in the Hot Seat last year & was on a mission to get there again. He did not make it this year in our many trips to this show but did manage to make the Top 10 at virtually every game we played. Hmm I give him answers & he gets the top 10. Maybe I better start playing Video Games to loosen my fingers up. Lunch today was at Pizza Planet. They have a great combo deal that comes with an Individual Pizza, Salad & Drink – very good ($19.37). After enjoying more shows & attractions at MGM we head back to the room where I discovered I had bought a wrong size T-shirt for my brother so we headed to Downtown Disney to exchange. I wanted to get a little something for Beau the Night Manager at AKL to thank him for our beautiful room & as I wasn’t sure what they could accept I decided on a HUGE Raspberry White Chocolate Cookie from the Gourmet Pantry.
Matt & I wanted to explore the Resort & as we were both a bit tired from the previous heavy Park Touring days decided to grab dinner at the Mara Food Court. I knew LindaR was staying at AKL & knew that she & her daughter had never met anyone from the Internet before so I called her up & asked if they would like to meet us in the Food Court. LindaR joined us in a few minutes & what a lovely lady she is. I very much enjoyed talking to her & hearing about where the live. They live in the desert while we live in tree filled Georgia. I lived in Phoenix & Nevada when I was young so could relate to her home but hope that someday I will be able to take Matt out West to see how different it is from where he lives. We gabbed so much that the time got away from us & soon Linda was heading to her room while Matt & I explored the resort a bit more. We made it back to the room to see the last 30 minutes or so of Amazing Race. Finally I think we are getting back our strength.

Tomorrow Epcot & meeting some Disney friends

Can't beat a free room but if you have time stop by the Animal Kingdom Lodge to look around or maybe for a nice dinner. Jiko is awesome!
