I got pretty busy last year and didn't do a share, but I'm getting back on the ball this year. Sign in here and I'll add your name to the list.

Who's In:

Group 1
1. WillCAD (coordinator)
2. Bookwood
3. sjh801
4. wdwr & Meghan
5. ddindy
6. Topaz
7. BetsyAnn
8. jeffdet7

What is a PhotoPass share?
For those who don't know - A PhotoPass CD share is when a group of friends and family combine all of their PhotoPass cards into a single account, then split the cost of the CD equally.

How much does it cost?
A PhotoPass CD costs $99 if you pre-order it (which we will), and about $6-$8 shipping, for a total of $105-$107. If we have 10 people, that's under $11 each. Throw in an extra $3 per person to cover the cost of the blank CD and shipping from the coordinator to each person, and the total cost for each member of a 10-person share is under $14 - way better than the $105 that it would cost you if you got the CD yourself. This is especially important for those of us who come home with only a few PhotoPass pics.

How does it work?
The share coordinator (in this case, me) is the one who orders the CD, copies it, and sends the copies to everyone in the group. This will be the 5th year for the Tagrel share group.

Will I get just my pics, or everybody's?
PhotoPass CDs mix pics up by date, not by PhotoPass card, so everyone's pics are mixed together. Splitting them up would be extremely time-consuming for the coordinators of the groups

Since our group is more like an extended family than a group of strangers, it was agreed that first year that everybody wanted to see everybody else's pics. This is only dangerous when certain Photoshop-savvy persons (who shall remain nameless at this juncture) join the group.

How many people will be in the group?
As with last year, I am limiting each group to 10-12 participants (each participant can be an individual, couple, or family). In 2007 we had 16, and with that many pics, the PhotoPass web site became impossibly slow to load when we logged on to add borders and graphics to our pics.

If we get more than 10 or 12 people signed up, I will split them into two or more equal groups, each with their own separate PhotoPass account. For instance, if we have 16 people, they will be split into two groups of 8 each, making the cost per person $16. When more than one group is needed, I will ask for volunteers to act as coordinators for each group.

New feature: Online pics at WillCAD.org
I have unlimited (or so the provider says) storage capacity on my personal web page. Because of this, I will get copies of the CDs from all the groups (if there is only one group, I'll already have them), and I will upload all of the pics from all of the groups to my personal site and share the link with everybody.

Once the pics are on my site, you will be able to view them and download them. If you would prefer, you can simply download them all in bulk rather than have a CD sent to you; this will save you the cost of shipping from the coordinator to you, but the download may take a while. If you have a slow-speed internet connection, the CD is a better option.

Okay, I'm in - what do I do?
1) Everybody gets their own PhotoPass cards and has pics taken normally
HINT: Write down or take a digital pic of your PhotoPass card numbers when you get them in case you lose the card.

2) I will create a PhotoPass account for the group and send the user name and password info to all members in advance. If more than one group is needed, I will ask for volunteers to act as coordinators for each group; each coordinator will create an account for their group and share the user name and password with their group.

3) Everybody in the share enters their PP card numbers in the group account(s) and reviews or modifies their pics.
NOTE: PhotoPass cards can only be entered in ONE account, so your pics must be entered only in the share's account. If they are entered in your own account, then they cannot be entered in the share account, and they will NOT be on the CD!

4) Everybody shares the cost by sending some money to the share coordinator. In my case, you can either send me the money via PayPal, or you can give it to me in cash when we meet at WDW.

5) After Tag-o-Mania is over, we all enter our PhotoPass cards into the share account(s), and add borders and graphics and crop our pics as much as we wish.

6) Once everybody has entered their numbers, reviewed and modified their pics, and sent in their share of the cost, the share coordinator orders the CD.

7) When the CD arrives, the share coordinator makes copies for each member of the share and sends them out. Since our pics generally fill up more than one CD, I consolidate them onto a single DVD when I copy them; this makes it a lot easier to copy them, cheaper to mail them, and easier to browse the pics.

8) NEW THIS YEAR: When the coordinators of the groups send out the CDs, they will also send a copy to me. I will then post the pics from all of the groups on my personal web site and post a link to the pics here. Everyone will then be able to view the pics, download them individually, or download them in bulk in zip files.

Tagomania 2011 PhotoPass Share Schedule:
Deadline for signing up - October 12, 2011 (one week prior to Tagomania)

I'm concerned about getting my photos on the CD before they expire. Nov. 25 seems like a long time to wait, especially when I'll be arriving on Oct. 15. What will be the best strategy regarding entering my Photopass ID in the group account?

Here is what the Photopass web site (http://www.disneyphotopass.com/skins/100147/help/Policies_Help.htm#storage) has to say:

"Photos linked to a Disney's PhotoPass ID will be available online by the morning after the photos were taken. Guests must claim photos within 30 days from when the photos were taken. Photos not claimed within 30 days from which they were taken will no longer be available. Once photos are claimed and associated to a DisneyPhotoPass.com account, they will be available for viewing, sharing and purchasing for 30 days from the date they were claimed, after which the photos will no longer be available.

"Note: “claiming” means either adding a new Disney’s PhotoPass I.D. number to your account or logging in to your account after new photos have been added to a Disney’s PhotoPass I.D. number which was already associated with your account."

If I read this correctly, waiting until late October or early November before entering my Photopass ID will ensure that my photos will be available. Sound right?

I'm glad you asked that, Dennis, because I seem to have gotten my dates a little mixed up in the original post, so I have to edit the deadlines a little or our pics might have expired before we ordered the CD!

There are actually two separate 30-day countdowns involved with PhotoPass.

When a picture is taken and associated with a PhotoPass card, you have 30 days to claim the pic by adding the PhotoPass card number to a PhotoPass account. If you don't add the card before a pic expires, you won't be able to add that pic to your account. Each pic has its own deadline, so if you have pics taken on Oct 15 and pics taken on Oct 16, both associated with the same card, the pics taken on Oct 15 will expire on Nov 14, and the pics taken on Oct 16 will expire on Nov 15, unless they are claimed first.

Once you enter a PhotoPass card number into a PhotoPass account, all of the pics associated with that card are then claimed. This ends the claiming countdown, and begins a second countdown; 30 days after they are claimed, the pics expire, and are deleted from the account.

Here's the rub: Pics are deleted from the account 30 days after they are claimed, no matter when they are taken. Thus, if you enter the card on Oct 24, all of the pics will expire on Nov 23. Thus, we have to make sure that A) no cards are entered into the account prior to Ordering Day-minus-30, and we have to make sure that Ordering Day comes before the pics in the account begin to expire.

* Yup, I put the wrong dates in the original post. I have corrected the dates to reflect our actual ordering deadline, and added a paragraph to explain the earliest we can add PhotoPass cards to the account.

So, the short answer to your original question is, enter your PhotoPass cards into the group account on Oct 24 or later to ensure that they won't expire before Ordering Day, Nov 23.

That's all good to know, Will. I'll be sure to wait until after I get home on 10/24 to enter my ID. Thanks!

I am new here and this is my first post. But I would definitely be interested in being involved with this. I never have enough pictures to make the cd worth it. So this is a great idea. Count me in if you will have me.

So long as you're in WDW during Tagomania, Jeff, you're welcome to join the share.

Will you be attending any Tagomania meets?

Thanks for the greetings. And thanks for including me. I am hoping we will be able to attend some of the meet-ups. Honestly it kind of depends on if I can talk my wife into it. I am hoping so, it sounds like you guys have a lot of fun. Also I can send some blank cd's to you for the whole group to use my treat. To help save everybody a little money.

PM's sent to all participants.

Just a reminder - if you're not signed up and would like to join in the share, post here and I'll add you to the group, but you will have to enter your PhotoPass cards into the share account, NOT into your own personal account.

Just a reminder - we only have a few days left until the CD order is placed! Finish up your photo modifications soon.

If you have not already sent your check/money order/paypal, feel free to do so at any time.

I'll be placing the order for the CD on Wednesday, Nov 23. I should receive it by the end of the following week, and the photos will be available for viewing and download on my web site within a few days, and your copies of the CD will be in the mail shortly thereafter. NOTE: I will be using DVDs to make our copies, not CDs, because I can fit the entire account onto a single DVD, whereas PhotoPass will have to span our account across multiple CDs. If you have an ancient computer that has no DVD drive, let me know and I can burn yours onto CDs instead.

Okay, folkd, I have the pics in hand. How? Instead of getting the CD mailed to me, I chose the download option.

I'm getting the files ready to post on my web site, and formatting them for burning to DVD, and they should be ready for viewing, download, and mailing in a few days.

Okay, I have all of the photos posted on my web site for viewing and downloading. I just need to burn the DVDs and mail them out, which I will try to get done by the end of next week.

PhotoPass sent us pure downloaded files, straight out of the camera, all in one bunch. I have separated them and renamed them by day to make them a little easier to view.

I especially like the bonus pics that Disney added to our account, with things like character pics, parade pics, and fireworks pics. Some of them are really spectacular.
