View Full Version : Single Use Cameras

I wanted to get a couple of water proof single use cameras to bring with us to the water park and on Kalli River Rapids, etc.
I was hoping to find a digital single use camera, but seems like all I can find that are waterproof are film single use cameras (I was surprised that they still made film ones!).
Am I missing them? Any recommendations?

I too am surprised that there wouldn't be any digital formats available. But at least you do have the option to have the print cameras developed onto digital media such as CD.

The only digital single-use camera (let's not fool ourselves, we're talking about disposable, throw-away cameras) that I've ever heard of was actually a film camera, but when processed the pics were given to you online and on CD in digital format and you never got negatives or prints.

For underwater photography, you have two fairly easy options: A) go with the waterproof disposables you have already found (they work fairly well and you can scan the pics), or B) get a waterproof enclosure for your P&S digital camera.

The waterproof enclosures are a nice option, even though they're a little costly, because they allow you to take digital pics with your own camera. They are not throw-away accessories, either; they will stay with you for at least the lifetime of your camera. They're not just for undersea photography, either; they also allow you to shoot in pouring rain or snow, or on wet rides like Splpash Mountain or Kali River Rapids.

(let's not fool ourselves, we're talking about disposable, throw-away cameras)Will, you couldn't be more wrong. I can't speak about the film company that's a 4 letter word starting with fu, but I know that Eastman Kodak recycles single use cameras. So they are not disposable. They are indeed single use.

In years past we have gotten great results from the underwater "single use" cameras-the kids thought they were the cat's meow and I can't tell you the fun they had underwater at pools taking pics of each other! Above water ones turned out great too-I've had one strapped to my wrist at Typhoon Lagoon several times! It's nice to actually have pictures from within the waterparks as we tend to travel light when we go there and don't want to take the time to gather regular pictures, locker the camera and then do the slides.

I'll suggest another option: a waterproof P&S. There are several on the market. It would be great for a day at the beach, playing in the snow, rainy days or any other less-than-ideal conditions that families enjoy. And they work in dry conditions as well.

Thank you everyone! I ordered a two=pack of the Kodak single use water proof cameras from Wal-mart (less than half the price of getting them at CVS).
We already have a good digital SLR and a "decent" digital point and shoot, so buying another one isn't in the cards right now, although the next p&s we get we will have to consider that (problem is we have gone through 4 of them in as many years with my kids losing or breaking them), so have tended to not want to spend a lot on them.
Should look into a waterproof enclosure too.

Should look into a waterproof enclosure too.
I have one for my Sony P&S and while it was indeed costly, I have used it many times over the past 6 years and take it with me on every vacation. It was a great investment.

While it does make the camera a little bulky, it still allows full control. I also love being able to shoot movies with the camera while on water rides, at the water parks, as well as just taking pictures around the pool.

When I bought the housing, there weren't any cameras that were waterproof out of the box. If I had to replace the camera now, I would probably look into one of those instead.

I know you went with the Single-Use from Wal-Mart, just wanted to say they do work pretty good! We take one on almost every trip, and there a lot of fun :D!
