Tag-O-Mania Photo Scavenger Hunt

And now for the moment you have all been waiting for! Below are the questions and answers to the Photo Scavenger Hunt along with my attempt to capture each shot. I failed to get every picture and I’m looking forward to see how everyone else did.

Please remember to write a couple lines about your adventure for each picture. In case of a tie your story may help determine the winner.


Magic Kingdom – worth 10 points each

1 - Take a cruise on the rivers of the world and bring back a picture of WDW’s Head-Salesman.

The answer is Trader Sam, the head salesman from the Jungle Cruise. I’ll have to admit this was not an easy capture. You have to sit on the left side of the boat for a clear shot. I was not on the left side so this was the best I could do.

2 - Now don’t close your eyes, and don’t try to hide. You need a picture of my favorite attraction.

The first line is lyrics from Grimm Grinning Ghosts which should have given you the answer. I also say over and over in my trip reports that the Haunted Mansion is my favorite attraction. I sure hope you all got this one right.

3 - Go for a ride on the Blue Line and get a picture of the Thirst Rangers vehicle.

The Blue Line, aka TTA, aka Wedway People Mover, offers a couple of shots of the red rocket ship that sits on top of Cool Ship in Tomorrowland. I’m not sure why, but I come home with multiple shots of this every trip.

4 – Circle the park and get a picture of the natives doing their thing.

The only way to truly circle the park is via the Walt Disney World Railroad and the natives I refer to are the ones hanging around the American Indian encampment along the tracks. I just recently figured out that increasing the Shutter Speed helps to avoid a blurry shot…

I think this one is pretty self explanatory. Just show us a picture of Tags having fun!

EPCOT – worth 10 points each

1 – Bring home a picture of a Monorail and Space Ship Earth in the same shot.

There are a couple different locations throughout the park where you can capture this scene. I have a couple nice shots from near Ellen’s Universe of Energy from previous trips. I also have a cool shot taken from the lake staring straight down the path toward SE.

2 - Mine! Mine! Mine! Get me the picture!

I’m looking for a picture of the Seagulls in front of The Seas with Nemo and Friends. We never made it to this attraction this trip and I was too lazy to walk over to get the picture. I hope you guys did better.

3 – If you drink too much vino, you may end up with a blurry picture of these flat bottom rowing boats.

This one would be the gondolas on the water in front of the Italy Pavillion. I love the potential that this subject offers.

4 - She supposedly found her diamond in the rough, but she hasn’t met me yet. Get me a picture of my favorite Princess.

Who else but Princess Jasmine!?! I’m really looking forward to seeing all of these pictures. I sure hope you guys don’t let me down. I lucked out that she was out as we walked past on our last day.

Hollywood Studios – worth 10 points each

1 - Snap a shot of Mickey up on top of the world.

As you enter through the ticket turnstiles there is a kiosk, Crossroads of the World, in the middle of the road and Mickey is on a platform standing on a globe. This is another cool subject with a lot of potential for different interpretation. I hope some of you were more creative than me…

2 – You will need to look carefully for this game board. Don’t get sunk.

The “Don’t get sunk” reference is in regards to the game of Battleship. You can find this giant replica of the game on the ceiling of the shop across from Toy Story Midway Mania.

3 – She’s big and green, but always a treat.

It’s Dinosaur Gertie of course! She is big and she certainly is green and when she is open she sells ice cream which is always a treat!

4 – You could use these guys if you need your lawn watered or swept.

This would be the brooms from Fantasia located near the Brown Derby.

Animal Kingdom – worth 10 points each

1 – You will be filled with pride if you manage to get a picture of the king.

I was looking for a picture of a lion from the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride. Unfortunately they were not visible during our ride. Did anyone go back and get a shot?

2 – This bad guy from Aladdin is immortalized in stone. Do you know where?

There is a stone/rock formation on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail that looks like Jaffar. As you cross the first suspension bridge in the gorilla enclosure you need to turn around and look to your left.

3 – Take the express to find the likeness of this wise man from The Lion King.

If you take the Wildlife Express railway to Rafiki’s Planet Watch you will find this statue of Rafiki on the trail.

There are also numerous signs with Rafiki’s image on this walkway as well.

And if you managed to get a picture of the actual Rafiki character, that would be even better!

4 – You will need to search carefully for this camouflaged beauty.

If you walk the path between Africa and Asia you may come across DiVine, a young woman made up to look like a living walking plant. She is one of my favorite subjects to photograph in the park and she is a thing of beauty to watch.

Bonus – worth 50 points each unless noted otherwise

1 – Get a picture of the leader of the Taginators without him knowing it. This cannot be one of the same pictures used for the “stealth” pictures from the 4 parks.

100 points if he is eating, but not at a group meal you are attending.

500 points if any of what he is eating is on his shirt.

I wasn’t lucky enough to catch Dave eating, let alone with food on his shirt. But I did catch him gathering some goodies that I’m sure he did eat eventually…

1A - Get a picture of Moley without her knowing it. This cannot be one of the same pictures used for the “stealth” pictures from the 4 parks.

100 points if she is sleeping

500 points if she is sleeping and drooling

I can’t wait to see how Dave made out with this one.


2 - Get a picture of someone you do not know wearing inappropriate footwear in any one of the 4 Theme Parks.

100 points if they pose for you.

500 points if they pose and she has really nice legs.

While Cathy and I were waiting for the tram at HS, this family came along and I believe mom is a prime candidate for inappropriate theme park footwear.

3 - Get a picture of someone you don’t know eating my favorite Theme Park Ice Cream treat. Hint – it is NOT Dole Whip!

250 points if they pose for you.

The answer is a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar, and I never got the opportunity for a picture.


4 – Get a picture of someone wearing a non-Disney theme park t-shirt anywhere on Disney property.

Minus 100 points if it is a picture of Brian (Frogman) in a Cedar Point T-Shirt.

I failed at this one as well.


5 – Get a picture of your favorite Hidden Mickey from anywhere on Disney property.

250 points if you get a stranger to point at it.

This is the only picture of a hidden Mickey I took this trip, so naturally it is my new favorite!

I have to say it was great fun watching everyone trying to get their pictures and comparing notes.

The best however was when on Sunday morning Jellyrolls kept asking Dave to spill food on his shirt. He couldn't understand why and then Bookwood put a banana peel on his shirt "after" a food meet. Then it was explained that he got his own clues. Priceless to witness :D

I happen to know that he did eventually really spill food on his shirt while eating around the world with a handful a people enjoying the day. It was so funny watching everyone scramble to get their cameras in time to capture the moment!

Let me see if I can pique some interest. I have a one of a kind specially designed calendar sitting on my desk waiting to be mailed to the winner. BUT WAIT, THAT'S NOT ALL! There is also an even better second prize that goes along with the calendar.

Here is the world's worst photographer next to some of the finest I have seen. This site is rich with the good ones and that can get old pretty fast! So I am here to give balance, the blurred next to the sharp, the heads cut off next to the perfectly framed shot, the unidentifiable next to the beautiful. Good photographers, move over! I loved this Tagomania idea, especially since I used my company service award to get a new digital camera, complete with an image stabilizer. Hah! I know how to disable that feature right off! So here are my entries and what will pass for a trip report.

Zeus and I started our WDW trip with a day at the Magic Kingdom. We had our Scavenger rules in hand and completed every task, praising John all the way for his clever idea and how much fun it brought to our vacation table.

5. The stealth shot when a Taginator isn't looking. Do you know how many times BA, Bookwood and their ilk would look directly at my camera so I couldn't fulfill the 'not looking' part? Geesh, how competitive can you get. Luckily the lovely Topaz wasn't as tacky. Besides she is named after a gemstone, all the requirements for being my best friend forever. Only if we get a member who registers as Diamond will she lose her place in my friendship heart.

Bonus points: Zip! I tried looking for the theme park shirts, the Mickey bar, a hidden Mickey. I did get a visible Piglet, but I don't think it qualifies me for any game points, but because there are purty people in these shots, they must be shared.

As you can see, in desperation as we left the park I was willing to photograph anything. It was hot and that tiny camera neck strap was digging into my back fat. John and his big ideas.

The next day we were headed to Animal Kingdom. I had renewed faith in our contest mojo.

Bonus points: inappropriate footwear. This one was stretching it but I knew I would fall off those wooden platforms. Plus the inappropriate part was zooming in the camera under the table. Poor lady. Nice legs, though. We left after lunch. The hotel pool looked good to us and we couldn't wait to dump the camera back at the room. Talk about a burden while you are on vacation! John hates us.


We went to Epcot that night and not one shot. Tag wanted to see Food and Wine on a Saturday night but did he eat anything drippable? Not one morsel! Next time I'm going to see the show at Port Orleans. But next day was a tad better.

I have a problem...I can't figure out how to get the pictures from my new laptop to my PC. With the old laptop, I just had to right click, copy to a new folder, and when I had all the pix I wanted in the new folder, I'd copy to disk and download on PC. With this new laptop, I can't get it to do that...I right click on the picture, and get a menu that doesn't have anything about copying on it....I'll see if I can figure it out tomorrow (deadline.....help.....).

Moley - 180 points - Moley started off strong, but was quickly distracted by shiney objects and lost focus.

Dave - 200 points - Dave gave a valiant effort but I think he needed this vacation to relax and understandably (is that a word?) didn't have the stamina to complete the tasks.

SusanL - 200 points - Susan managed to get shots from each park but fell short in the bonus section. A great effort, but no cigar.... ;)

Gary - 240 points - Like Moley, Gary started off very strong and also did well in the bonus section. But some of his images are questionable so the judges had to remain strict to the rules. Kudos for best Mickey Bar picture, it is truly my favorite, but unfortunately you fell a little short.

Karen - 280 points - Karen was a force to contend with! I thought she had it wrapped up with all the shots from the parks and some excellent bonus captures. Sadly, it just wasn't enough.

Our Winner is...

Pam - 690 points - Pam honestly was not holding her own with the park shots. But she really drove it home with the most excellent bonus shot of Posed, Innappropriate Footwear, with Great Legs! 500 points for that one alone!
