View Full Version : Best Pools For Hopping?

This is kind of a DVC question, but I think better placed in this forum since it involves all the resorts.
At the pool today, I got to thinking about our October trip, and how we could probably get by without doing a waterpark, if we made the effort to use our pool hopping privledges. My question is...what are the best pools to try? We can't use the pools at YC/BC, nor the one at AKL. Anything else should be fair game during October.
The toddler of course will love a pool with the zero depth entry. The older kids always enjoy a good slide, and I just like a nicely themed area to relax in. My original thoughts are the pools at the Polynesian and the one at Coronado Springs. Does anybody have any suggestions? We've only been to the pools at ASMo, Poly, BWV, YC/BC, and AKL.
Thanks! :D
Alicia, we pool hop to the Poly more than anywhere else. It has the zero depth entry and a slide, even is a nice place to kick back in. My only complaint is that the poolside tables and such seem to be fewer than other resorts. Our second favorite is the Luna Pool at BW. There is the kiddie pool available for you toddler, and we really like the slide. Another thing you might check on is whether the renovation at the OKW will be done by the time you make your trip. I forget what the timeline is for that, but the new slide looks like it will be a real kick.

Alicia,
I would highly recommend trying the pool at Coronado Springs. My boys really loved this pool. It has a slide, and is huge. They don't have the zero entry level, but there is a baby pool right along side, as well as a huge Hot tub. And the theming is awesome.

We are staying at the BWV this trip, and have a couple pool days scheduled. I want to check out SSR, so we plan to hop to their pool. The kids play area, pool and slides look great! I'll have a full report when we get back! ;)

dear Alicia,
The volcano pool at the Polynesian is a lot of fun. Along with the zero-depth entry, it has a mini waterfall, a bubbling corner, and a fun slide. Plus, the setting is just so tropical and pretty!
The other pool I urge you to consider is the main one at the Wilderness Lodge. The pool itself is themed in a cool way and has a nice slide tucked into the "rocks." From the pool area, you have a great view of the lodge itself and some beautiful landscaping.
But here's the big thing - pool games! I sure hope they're still holding these each afternoon. A young lifeguard type led the kids in all kinds of water play for about 30 minutes. She was smiling and upbeat and the kids were all having a good time. When we stayed there, pool games started around 3:00. If you're interested, you might want to call there and see if the pool games are still happening. :sun:

The Wilderness Lodge has by far, been my favorite pool. I just love the wall where the stream meets the pool. The theming is beautiful, relaxing, and I wish I were there now. Naomi had a great time playing pool games with the lifeguard here. They played tug o war in the water. It was hilarous.
We also really enjoyed the Boardwalk Pool. While I would not do that slide again personally, I know that if Ethan rode it once, he rode it 100 times!
Have fun at the pool!

Thank you for all your input guys! :D It sounds like we've really got some good options here. I hadn't even thought about OKW or SSR. They'd both be great too. I really think we'll save the money on a waterpark this year, and just try a few of these other pools for something a little different.
We'll be at BWV. The kids and John have never been to Luna Park Pool, but I was able to try it out when I went down last July to purchase DVC. I LOVE that slide!!! It's by far the best one I've been on. Cheri, that part of your trip report cracked me up.
Thanks again!

I agree that the volcano pool at the Poly is lovely and fun for pool hopping. However, if you are going to be there during the Funai Classic PGA event, keep in mind that the Polynesian is one of the favorite resorts for those playing in the tournament who do not have their own homes in the central Florida area. In addition to the pros and their immediate families, there are also many many sponsors and pro-am players who book the Poly during this time. So, during the golf tournament the volcano pool may be extra busy with family members of these players.

Whew! I went googling for the Funai Classic, and thank goodness it will be held after we leave. We're there very early October (3-13) this time.
Hopefully the F&W Festival crowds won't be too bad yet either. :D
Alicia, we really like the slide at the CR. There's not a good place for Anna Kate to swim though since they covered over their wading pool and put up a second playground.
However, if it's a tiny bit too chilly for AK to be in the pool, you and John could take the kids over and one of you can watch the older kids in the pool and the other can let AK run all over the two playgrounds (they are near each other). We did this in January and everyone was happy!

I really wanna try the SSR pool. It looks nice, but I like to try em all  I think my favorite slide at Disney is the BW slide. Its not at long as some, but you get up some good speed and the twist near the end is lots of fun. Also, the life guards there let us get away with more than anyone else
For the record, the Hard Rock at Universal has an awesome slide. The life guard there was also a fire fighter, so he let us do anything we wanted. We were going down forwards, backwards, upsides down, running and diving down the slide, stopping on the slide, going 4 at a time on the slide  Thowing a football to people while on the slide. It was the best time I've ever had at a resort pool. Well, thats not true. We had a better time at a pool in Cancun, but that doesnt count. Where else will they let you throw full size watermelons across a crowded pool  Watermelon football can be lots of fun.
BTW, Amy, you are STILL going into the lake, so be sure and wear a bathingsuit
Den, make all the threats you want...we'll see who's whipping whose butt come December 12http://home.comcast.net/~lanceamy/wsb/media/223947/site1022.gif http://home.comcast.net/~lanceamy/wsb/media/223947/site1022.gif http://home.comcast.net/~lanceamy/wsb/media/223947/site1022.gif
