I stumbled across this article and found it fascinating:

It's interesting to see photos, some of them quite well done, taken more than 50 years before I was born. I get an overwhelming sense of humanity when I look at them; they bring those soldiers to life for me in a way that most old photos don't.

It reminds me how many of those type photos are mixed among personal photos. I have one of my uncle taken during WWII of him by a stream, using his helmet as a basin for washing.

What an amazing find! I've been to that region and it is stunning to see how torn up and artillery shell pock marked the land still is from WW 1. And of course the crosses standing "row on row'. Thanks for posting.
