I have been wanting to play with the Tokina 11-16 wide angle lens since seeing Scott's pictures. Then Barrie showed up with one at WDW last month so I was totally jealous!

Having read a little about renting lenses I did a some research and found that the pricing isn't too bad. $55.00 + shipping for 7 days. Return shipping and insurance is included as well.

So, what's my point? With the upcoming Niagara Falls trip I thought it might be a good time to try this lens rental thing. I placed the order Friday afternoon and told them I need the lens Wednesday, 6/23, for 7 days. Well the lens arrived today and the paperwork says the agreement doesn't start until 6/24, and I don't have to ship it back until 7/1. Sweet! For the price of a 7 day rental I have this beauty for 9 nights. The lens is in perfect condition and came safely packaged in it's own carrying case with lens hood.

Now you can all look forward to seeing badly distorted wide angle views of Niagara Falls when I return!

And I think the super wide angle will come in handy if Gary and I want to get in the same picture!

Good thing I can't make it or you would have needed to rent TWO lenses for the three of us!

This sounds pretty cool, but if I need about 18 or 19 nights it will probably get pretty pricey! Got a link so I can check it out? :D

was just playing around and found this one Tag: http://www.cameralensrentals.com/?ADID=IH2&gclid=CI28hrG5tKICFY845wodxl-06w

Prices don't look too bad, just over $100 for the time you are looking for. Let me know how this works out.

Enjoy the lens. I bought one last fall, and it's amazing how wide the field of view is. With a little care, there's very little distortion. (It's definitely not a fisheye.) When I'm composing a shot through the viewfinder, I have to be careful to not bump into my subject!

Niagara Falls seems like the perfect trip for this lens. Can't wait to see the photos you take with it!

Just for a point of comparison, what is the street price to purchase the lens you are renting?

For a UWA this lens is a bargain but, if you are not sure if you'd like it, renting one is the way to go. I rented the Tokina 12-24 f/4 for a couple of weeks and loved it. I was going to buy it when they announced the 11-16 f/2.8, I decided to wait as I already knew the build and glass quality would be excellent.

It lists for $699 and sells for around $599 online. Worth a rental for testing.

Thanks Scott. That is about the rental:cost ratio I was looking for - definitely worth renting it before buying.
