I use Elements 3 to edit my RAW pics. It has noise reduction features but I don't see that they work at all. I've tried Noise Ninja in the past and didn't like it. Seemed to make pics look too smooth. I'm thinking about trying DeNoise. Anyone try it, like it?
What do you use?

I use the feature in Elements 6, sometimes it seems to make a differance, othertimes not so much. I have not tried anything else yet. I'll be very interested to hear what others have to say here.

Up until a few weeks ago, I was limping along with a trial copy of Neat Image's plug-in for Photoshop. It worked ok, but had the restriction that it would only work on a 1024x1024 portion of the photo. That was fine for smaller photos, but didn't help much with one that was 18mp. :)
On Barrie's suggestion, I installed a trial copy of Topaz DeNoise. I'm impressed with it - it is simple to use, and it's amazing how much cleanup it is able to do. I have to be careful, though, because I tend to get carried away and overdo it. Since it's a fully-functioning 30-day trial, I recommend giving it a try to see if you like it.
I started using Adobe Lightroom 2 earlier this year. It also has some noise reduction capabilities, but it isn't all that great. Lightroom 3 just came out, and from what I have heard, they have made great improvements to its noise reduction. I plan to upgrade to Lightroom 3 anyway, so I will do that first. I want to give its noise reduction a try before spending more money on another software package like DeNoise.

I have been happy with Noise Ninja. Topaz's latest version of Denoise has been getting a lot of buzz from the professional photographers of late. Download the trial versions and see which one works best for you and meets your budget.

Hi,
Do these programs work in conjunction with Photoshop, etc?
I have Paint Shop Pro 8 and wonder if any will work for me.
Thanks in advance.

Both Noise Ninja and Topaz DeNoise have stand alone programs. Noise Ninja has a plug-in not sure if DeNoise does. I won't be adding anything to my Photoshop Elements. I rather use them as stand alones. Both have 30 day free trials. I've given Noise Ninja (http://www.picturecode.com/) a try and am now going to give Topaz DeNoise (http://www.topazlabs.com/denoise/) free trial a go. It retails for $79.99. I'll try and find an educational discount and post the link.
Thanks everyone for your helpful feedback:)
I've been sitting on the Topaz DeNoise free trial activation email for a week now. As soon as I have time to work with it I'll download it.
DH was diagnosed with pneumonia Sat. and DSs HS graduation is a few days away so dealing with noise the size of golf balls will be a pleasure.

I couldn't wait to play with Topaz DeNoise. Just downloaded and installed the free trial. Doesn't work:( I can't find a place to put the code in. As I mentioned I have Elements 3 and so far it appears that Topaz DeNoise doesn't work with it.
Oh and I was all wrong about stand alone on Topaz DeNoise. It's a plugin and from their site info works with Paint Shop Pro. Course it stated it would work with Elements too. Guess they didn't think anyone uses "3" anymore.
